Anybody willing to translate from Chinese to English?

There are tons of Japanese dramas with Chinese subtitles. I don't mean the RMVB raws posted here; they need lots of work and the quality is not good. I've got many dramas on DVDs with Chinese subtitles (some traditional, some simplified, some both) that I could easily convert to timed text subtitles. So all the work is to translate the Chinese subtitles to English without caring about timing. I think it's much easier to find people able to translate from Chinese to English rather that Japanese to English.
I know it's not the best possible translation (some times produces strange patterns) but I think the outcome won't be that bad. I can post DVD rips with soft Chinese subtitles (and Japanese in some cases) for people willing to work on that. Then they can download the raw and the Chinese subs, translate it and just post the English subtitles (with their credits of course).
So if you are Chinese, you like Japanese dramas, you speak/write English at a relatively good level and you got some free time, let me know. There are many good dramas available (I've got a few dozens here waiting to be ripped/subbed); More should know that but maybe they are unfamiliar with the idea of ripping/converting/ocring etc... So this way you will just get the raws and the subs and with a simple subtitle editor you can produce your English subs (if you are able to of course) without caring about the rest.

Some possible dramas you could pick up: Itoshii Kimi E, Ikebukuro West Gate Park, Boku Dake No Madonna, Long Love Letter, First Love, Love 2000, Tokyo Love Cinema and many others.

PS: This is not some kind of recruitment for a fansub group or something. It's for 'clean' personal work that everybody will be benefited of it (since they will get new dramas with Eng subs).

Hmmm, I can read Traditional Chinese (probably figure out most of the Simplified Chinese) and only ok w/ English (even though I've been here more than 15yrs), wonder if I'm qualify for this job? Part of me is interested to help, but part of me is not sure I'll be able to finish w/ the full time job and a baby. Also not sure if people would be ok w/ my translation, someone will have to correct my grammar and re-phrase some sentences Tongue

I can probably only devote half hour a day to do this if that's acceptable speed. I think if we can get more people do this, it'll be faster and more interesting.

I also have a collection of drama in Chinese (although the source is VCD or VHS), and am building a small collection of English sub ones too.

i suggest writing a script to convert the format in softsub that can be translated automatically to english in an online translator website. after that convert the format back to softsub.

I dunno whether anyone has thought of this before, but i've actually written a script to do that. it's just that the translation is not perfect. but i guess since the 'english' can still be understood, anyone can easily improve on it.

The trick is to extract the subtitles to a file, without the softsub format, then just sent it for translation. after that, convert it back to softsub by extracting the timing from the original softsub file automatically.

Well that drops the level really down. I've said I prefer to release faster than maximize quality but the current market/free translators are only there to make things worse.
I use IBM's system (It's supposed to be the most developed one) sometimes when I'm translating from Japanese to English and I'm really stuck to something just to get an idea but using what the automatic translation software has produced would produce really bad subtitles.
Some people would of course prefer some bad subtitles rather than RAW but here we are talking about totally bad constructed English that only make things worse.
The idea is good though, the automatic translators are bad.

I recently just joined/discovered this site and seeing how much work you people put into it makes me want to help out in some way. I can read chinese and am pretty good at english.. and currently studying Japanese. So, if there's anyway I can help sub, that'd be great. But, I don't really know how to do it even though I just read the posts so you'll have to help me along in that respect. And are there ppl that will revise my subbing, that'd make me feel better hehe.

I need a few lines (13 lines to be exact) translated from Chinese to English for Xiao Ao Jiang Hu. It's a song. This is the last bit of translation I need for me to release episode 5.

Okusamma, I am interested in translating the Chinese subs for IWGP (now that school is out I will have more time to do this stuff). If they are ripped and (preferrably timed so I can watch the video for refernce also) please send them to me.

i can help to translate from chinese to english, but i dont really know how to put it into the video, so if you can send me the script of the whole video, i can translate and send it back then you do the timing and place the english subs into the video yourself.
