[U Translate it] Sore wa, totsuzen, arashi no you ni (Episode 1)
(It was sudden, like a storm...) jdorama.com link
This project comes from ar-a-mach's idea from ! ! ! ATS (Addicted Translation Service) for JDorama ! ! ! thread.
People with Japanese (& English) knowledge are supposed to co-operate to produce fast and efficient subtitles.
This a DVD Rip RAW file accompanied by timed Japanese subtitles (downloadable at the end of this post).
Each willing translator should post a message in this thread saying that he/she has selected a part to do.
Then I'll update this post and add his name next to each part to prevent others from doing the same part.
Each part is about 200 subtitles long and starts at the beginning of a scene and ends at the end of another scene. If you somehow stuck somewhere or you are fed up with it please let the rest know (so they can continue with it) and also provide your already done work.
After you've finished your part you can PM me so I eventually get all the parts and compile them into one unique subtitle posted here for everybody. Every translator will get credited of course both in this thread and in the final subtitle file.
You don't need to translate and write the names for each subtitles (speaker's name is identified in the Japanese subtitles we don't use this in English). Also there are some subs for sounds, like (Telephone) or (door bell). Those aren't supposed to be translated either. Also the timing should be more than good. Please try to keep it as it is. But anyway it's up to you if you want to change it.
Additional work can be done by somebody by editing the final subtitles and repost a second version of it later but let's see how the translation will go first.
How to do it???
If you are an experienced translator you may skip this section. If you don't have an idea go on.
All you need is Urusoft's subtitle workshop found here. You just open the subtitles and the video file and you do the job!
People needed more guidance, can PM me for more info.
PARTS
----------
Part 1: start -> 09:40 [Bahamut619 - done!]
Part 2: 10:00 -> 22:05 [greyhorse - done!]
Part 3: 22:17 -> 34:04 [okumasama - done!]
Part 4: 35:49 -> end [Bahamut619 - done!]
Source: DVD
Resolution: 704x396 (16:9)
Video Codec: XVID 2-pass ~1.5Mbps
Audio Codec: CBR MP3 160Kbps
Subtitles: soft Japanese & hopefully through this thread soft English soon!
The quality of this came out amazingly nice. I guess I've finally found the proper settings ^^ Just watch the part with the rain ~9:20 to 11:00!
No logos or anything like that. It should fit in a 80min 700MB CD (most CDRs usually are 703MB).
Anyway I hope some willing translators will pop up soon and get this done for everybody. Remember to post here that you've taken up some part so everybody else knows!
If this project succeeds I'll start other projects too. If not at least you get some very nice raws+japanese subtitles for this very nice drama!

| This sounds like too much fun to pass up. It's going to be interesting to see how different each translator's writing style is going to be. It's likely we'll end up with a slightly disjointed translation actually, which I suppose will be up to the editor to smooth over at the end. I'm in for Part 2. Hopefully my fellow Torontonian will have a similar writing style as me. Tanomuze Bahamut619.

| I was skimming through this section without problem, so I should be able to translate it. If I'm not sure about something I'll leave it untranslated, but I'm confident I can do at least 90%, and someone else could clean up the rest.

Wow I really liked the concept, for us learning the japanese language it could be a boost like "now I REALLY must use what I am learning".
But as I would need to lookup up in both the words and kanji dictionary, it would take a LOT of time, and 10 minutes of video would be a little to much for my current capacities, let's see if people joins this project, if it was like 5 minutes of video I really would give a try, maybe it would took me only 4 hours to do it....
Also, is it easy to do this in subtitle workshop (translating, and later joining all the subs from all the people in one)? I am a programmer, and I would be willing to make a program to help this out, if not convenient (like joining and comparing subs, editing based on more than one sub (japanese and english at the same time), etc. Note that this is only an idea I have no idea if it is really possible
