Following Ruroshin's guidelines... The hardsubbed post MUST be 100-percent original work - INCLUDING the translations. He doesn't allow you to upload hardsubbed work using soft subs from another person or fansubbing group UNLESS you obtain permission from the creator(s). Again, this is purely a D-Addicts guideline. Posting your work on any other tracker - D-Addicts can't say anything about it.

No worries, everything was done by me.

Translation, editing, timing and so forth. Big Smile

Shouldn't be a problem, right?

I've made some softsubs for a few of my JDramas, but I want to make them into hardsubs.

I've only got VirtualDub and Subtitle Workshop...

Is it possible to make hardsubs with these two programs?

Thanks a lot~

I think you can use both of them, plus one more.

1) Subtitle Workshop
2) Virtual Dub
3) Vobsub

First, you need to download Vobsub, and then install the vobsub filters to the VIRTUAL DUB folder. Once, you completed the installation, open your VIRTUAL DUB program
and load your VIDEO(AVI,mpeg, etc.) , and then click under "VIDEO->FILTERS" select ADD and choose 'TextSub 2.2x' and then load your subtitle. Make sure it's on FULL PROCESSING MODE (also found under 'VIDEO'). To select the quality go under 'VIDEO->COMPRESSION' and then select DVIX, CINEPAK, etc. ( I recommend DVIX for a high quality ouput, plus saves you the space). For Audio quality, you can go under 'AUDIO' heading and select RAW or MP3 sound, same procedure. Do a quick video analysis, just to make sure that your subtitles appear on the output video. Once, your done, go under 'FILE' and 'SAVE AS AVI' this will save your output project with subtitle, name it as you like it.

If you need help installing vobsub to virtual dub, and any more questions you can refer on this one, this one helped me alot.

Thanks a lot for this!

It really helps. ^^

I'm just going over Densha Otoko now to fix any mistakes I've made, and I should be able to upload it by tomorrow night sometime.

So, I'm going to continue with the hardsubs and post it on d-addicts (if possible), because I don't feel like it's wasting my time and nobody has said anything on d-addicts about hardsubs for it. Unsure

At one point, there were hardsubbed versions of Densha Otoko that were available here on the tracker but since then, it's been removed. So, that's might give you some clue as to why nobody said anything about hardsubs version of the drama here on D-Addicts.

Edit: I found the group that was hardsubbing this drama and they were called Walle Fansub group, but they stopped at episode 6.

I wonder why they stopped. Crying

I'll keep going, though. Tongue

I worked really hard on episode 1, so I don't want to stop. ^^;

Thanks again!! Big Smile

Well they probably stopped since it had already been hardsubbed by another fansub group right? TVnihon finished hardsubbing densha otoko quite a while ago now. TVnihon

That's usually the case. Most fansub groups don't bother working on the same projects as others. There are some series, such as Densha Otoko and Dango where there is a die-hard fan following - and not even a Mack truck could stop them from subbing yet another version. Personally, I hate wasting resources like this.

I have another similar technical question, actually - along the same lines as rendering soft subs, but ok heres the scenario:

How would I create a DVD-Video of something like Engine, which has the soft subs for it available, so that I could enable the subs whilst watching in a DVD player. Does Nero Vision Express do it? I've never seen the option to include SRT in a compilation.

Hardsubs, are drawn directly in the video. They are usually totally opaque so that the image that are behind the text are lost.

There are some techniques developped by researchers to remove tv logos from videos for example. It automatically detects them and refill that space by guessing what was initially behind. But since the initial image has been lost, you have to guess it with the help of pixels surrounding them.
So since it's still an open problem, I don't think there is an effective way to remove hardsubs.

Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I was trying to hardsub a file yesterday for a friend but the output was so big that I stopped before it was even halfway through. I didn't go through compression before saving. Now I know. Thanks!

I have a question, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. Regarding hardsubs on VirtualDub. I have this program called 'Sabbu' where you can change the size, color, etc of the subs. But no matter what I change it to, VirtualDub won't recognize it. For example, I can change the font outline to green, and VirtualDub will still see it as black. I don't know how to fix this problem.
I'll be so greatful if anyone can help me! ^-^

No. But here's a "quick" method. Export the files to mgp using Vision Express. Then use GuiForDVDAuthor to create the DVD.

I've got a question on the file size.
Is it possible to keep the file size of the output the same as the input? I always compress it but the quality is never as good as the original. I'd like to keep the file size as well as the quality.
Thanks in advance.
