No Direct Download and Streaming Links for Dramas

Announcement: No more posting of direct download links (ddl) or streaming links effective March 30, 2009.

D-addicts has always been dedicated to encouraging the sharing of asian dramas/tv and this change to our site policy is NOT aimed at discouraging sharing through alternate distribution methods. We understand that there are people who cannot use BitTorrent for a number of reasons, however, the prevalance of these links (particularly in the Chinese Entertainment section) has become increasingly unmanageable for our staff. We've noticed that many (if not most) of the links being shared are related to other websites dedicated to sharing dramas as well, so instead of posting those download or streaming links directly into forum threads, it would be more efficient to maintain a list of these alternate sites and resources.

By making this change, we will hopefully be able to:
a. regain discussions that have since been lost in the flood of download link threads in the Chinese entertainment forums.
b. reduce the volume of requests and other "nuisance" type posts
c. standardize rules across the entire forum

This warning should give people ample time to collect whatever links they want/need before we begin purging the forum of any of these threads. This will also give us time to collect links to other sites and resources for ddl and streaming file sources.

All download threads will be deleted from D-Addicts on March 30th without further notice.

Please post in this thread if you have comments or questions about this change in policy. We have a couple months to work out the exact details.

For clarification, this policy applies to links for drama videos ONLY. Feel free to share songs, pictures, trailers, or other drama-related files as long as it is not the drama itself.... erm... did that make sense? Fear

Looking for sites to get DDLs? A section has been added to the Links of Interest Thread. We'll try to have the entire list updated before we delete the existing download threads. Until then, please DO NOT spam the forum with either requests for sites or advertisements for sites Mad

. Instead, please check the Links of Interest thread. If you know of a site (because I know there are others out there), please post it in the Links of Interest thread and we will include it in the update.

So by March 30 the only way we going to get DDL is by using forums didecated only to posting DDL and BT links onlys, is that what your intentions are? Blink

I think it might have been the recent trend of ad-based DDLs that encouraged this rule. By ad-based I mean... links surrounded by ads that earn the uploader money not just the host site. I noticed really old shows being uploaded (without subs when there is a tracker version with subs) that already had DDLs just to trick people into clicking the links and making the poster money.

I fully support this rule by the way. Those DDL threads always annoyed the crap out of me. I never saw why people felt the need to make a thread just for DDLs when there were discussion threads. It seemed like a sad way for the poster to get attention to me. And it's not hard to find DDLs for pretty much anything. There are lots of sites that upload raws and subbed versions of everything if you just take the time to look for them.

I, as a uploader for TVB series, is here to share. I have seen some people posting DDL links, that are trying to gain money or it's ad-related. Sometimes people would have dicussions about this and that, when there's a seperate section for it or requesting without using the search function first. Which is really bad but it really sucks that it will actually have to be all deleted very soon, and as a poster, I might be losing all my posts, since it's mostly completely all posted in the Chinese section. I know rules is rules but I don't really mind if I do but some uploaders are legit and they want to share to others.

Yes, I do post on another forum but back when I signed up here, I felt that if I was to share for one place, why not for another. I personally don't want to see this happen, and I know many people in that Chinese section of the forum will feel the same. But, there's always others ways to get DDL, like going onto other forums. Although, I have never tried to advertise the other forum I use because I think that it's bad to do so on this forum but I have seen some people do that alot. Just incase, the other forum is.. www.popularasians.com, you can sign up and make 10 constructive non-spam posts, in order to get into the DDL section. But, I know jholic has created a thread, to hire more moderators, and he said he will do that soon but if that can happen, moderators for that section can actually remove posts and clean up the section. It may seem like it's alot of work but I guess it will be worth it, as it's will be good for the forum. But, hopefully you guys understand me.. :].

Why cant we just have a separate section for DDL and discussion? Cos im pretty sure most of the traffic here is from the DDL section Tongue

BT is good but too slow for many ppl.. the only thing im for is to get rid of those ad-linked DDL..

If D-Addicts are heading into a torrent based direction, then I respect the decision. Do what is best for the site. I do agree that discussions are lost in the mid of all the direct downloads and streaming links being posted in the Chinese Entertainment section.

Thanks for making D-Addicts a cleaner and more organized place.

I would suggest making an exception for the torrent comment section, since it can be very difficult to get seeders for old torrents, particularly if it's not for a drama series. But I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to the workings of this site, so feel free to disregard my suggestion if you disagree.

I agree with the policy of not posting DLL's on D-Addicts.

I'm not against DLLs. I'm a fervent supporter of sharing K-Dramas and other dramas via whatever method works. However, D-Addicts has been dedicated to sharing through torrents. By posting DLLs here instead of posting links to the original sites, people are doing a disservice to D-Addicts as well as to other sites which are dedicated to providing direct DLLs.

Torrents should be posted here on D-Addicts. Links to the original DLL sites can be posted here to direct those interested in alternative methods of getting their Drama fix.

I guess I'm neutral on this topic. D-Addicts has always been first and foremost a torrent site and it wasn't until a flux of TVB uploaders when suddenly DDLs became popular here.

I'll admit that I've grabbed many a download from these DDLs (and very grateful to the uploaders and sharers) but I'm just as ready as to support the decision the mods have made to discontinue Direct Downloads. The Chinese Entertainment Forum has gone overboard incrementally with new request topics (which I thought were against the rules but since I haven't been on much, they may have changed for all I know) and spammage with the same file uploaded (sometimes on the same host) and posted multiple times. I've tried livening up the threads with drama discussions but it appears no one is remotely interested in talking about the drama; just whether or not the next episode is up yet.

In all fairness, I could make do without the DDLs at D-A; there are TONS of forums, blogs, sites that are dedicated to DDL hosting and definitely contain TVB series. In fact, a few of them have been advertised by members here. I'll list some of the other sites I use on the link suggestion thread once I go through my bookmarks later.

Has anyone realize that DDLs seem to encourage new members from sharing non-drama related media? It has happened in the past where the mods had to lock and remove topics pertaining to music and movie sharing, and it still happens every now and then ~> and only in the Chinese Entertainment forum, too. Whistling

Even though you guys are going a change come march 30... i still think that your site is the best ... the Google for asian series... thanks for everything....cheers pwchong
