Hi everybody,
As you have read from the title of this topic ... Karaoke Creator ... yes ... it a small utility that will help you in creating Karaoke script when subtitling an anime or drama intro or ending song ...
I have learned to create a Karaoke for "Queen's Classroom" drama and I have succeeded in creating it within 3 days !! Then I came to wonder if there is a tool to do this repetitive work of copy, past and time calculation ... but I couldn't find any ...therefore, I've decided to create my own Karaoke creator with my modest C++ programming ability ... and here it goes ....
First of all you have to follow the following steps:
(1) : Download the program : DOWNLOAD
(2) : uncompress the file into a new folder.
(3) : I am putting in my mind that the user of this tool is familiar with timing through a wav file using either SABBU or SubStation Alpha, ... so open you subtitle editor program and then open the wav file ...
(4) : now time your song normally as you time a normal subtitle file ... i.e. one song sentence for example starts from time 00:01:00 up to 00:06:00 i.e. 5 seconds ... i.e. you know how is it ...
(5) : Now after uncompressing the downloaded file, you'll find two main files : lines.txt and Karaoke Creator.exe .... wait don't run the executable ...
(6) : open the file : lines.txt ... what did you see ? The following:
| Code: | | 11 1.00 Information 0.50 byousoku 0.22 de 0.47 tsutawaru 0.57 jidai 0.24 demo 0.40 Choice 0.15 no 0.35 shikata 0.17 ga 0.72 wakaranai |
Please notice the input file structure :
first number = number of syllables in one karaoke line, here we have 11 words or syllables and thus I wrote 11
then for each syllable you need to specify its duration ... this can be done using the the subtitle editor software ... you just identify the start of the syllable and its end and then you look at the duration box and take that number as it is here in SECONDS .. as you can see in the above line the word/syllable information has a duration of 1 second and the next one byousoku has 0.5 second ... I think you have noticed that the duration is written first followed by a space and then the syllable or the word ... for each sentence in the song you need to create a line like the one shown above ...
Now save the lines.txt file ( make sure you don't change the input file name, yeah its hard coded ) ...
(7) : Now that you have your input ready, just double click the program and you will see a DOS window with a welcome message and a list of Karaoke options ... there are 4 hard coded options and one with an option to add special effects that you need by your self ... for example if you want to create a karaoke :: Word by Word Fading in and out Karaoke then you have to press the number 2 and then Enter .... in a second you'll get a done message and there you go ... an output file called : result.txt has been created with the necessary code to create the Karaoke ... just copy each line to its respective line in the timed SSA file and then view the result in Virtual Dub ....
- Just delete the result.txt file when ever you want to create a new effect ...
That's all folks, You can create modest karaoke effects in less than half an hour ...
So, can I get your feedback please ? Can anyone test it and tell me the result .... I would like to get some improvement tips and corrections ...
All feedbacks are welcomed ....
Mohammed Sharif

| hi, just found your post. I was always interested in how to create a KTV. but I never knew how and therefor never tried to do one. One question do you also succed in the audio? I mean in a KTV you normally can supress the voice of the singer. Did you also do that?

| I think that timing the syllables is much easier in SSA.

Hi, thanks for the replys people ...
gixo .... suppress the singer voice ?? You mean to remove the singer words? or you mean synchronizing the karaoke movement with the voice ? This programm will help you in creating ssa scripts giving it just the duration of each syllable of the karaoke ... I didn't actually understand your question ...forgive me for that ...
tikleabubble ... I am really happy to hear that it will help you in your fansubbing ... did you succeed in creating the karaoke, what is your feedback ?
amrayu ... I don't think you are right ... because I tried it manually and its a time consuming process, and I didn't do any of the complicated stuff that other fansubbers do ... all what I did was to fill the karaoke with color and to make fade in/out and some simple movement ... thats it ... in the karaoke you have to do alot of repettive work and the only change is the duration and the rotation, scaling and other values ... and it will make you lose control of your self if you are doing it through notepad ... I was like that until I created this small tool to do the whole repettive work and give me the main simple ssa code and I can modify it if I need ...
Thanks again people ... I was waiting for some feedback ... I hope I can get some suggestion to improve this utility ..
Regards, Mohammed Sharif

Karaoke timing is very easy in SSA, because you don't have to look at those values/durations and type them out as you mentioned. All I do is modify the line so there's spaces in between the syllables and hit reset karaoke (it adds the {\kXX} for me when this is done). After that, I adjust the timings by just hitting the (-) subtract key or the (+) key. Then hit save.
I'm referring to this part of your guide:

Personally, I don't use Notepad or any text editor to do effects for karaoke. Because that's just nuts. You might want to check out Crumja's Karaoke tool. His tool has a little bit more flexibility.

I tried a program that codes karaoke effects stuff for you when you have a complete timed SSA file. I forget where I got it but it didn't do all kinds of karaoke effects and I don't know where to find others. I think I just chose the type I wanted, pasted it to a txt file, pasted the SSA file in the folder of the program, and click on something and follow the prompts. I just remember having to go back in and change the t values in the output SSA file but everything else was done for me (I usually tweaked it some, but anyway...)._________________

amrayu .... ok, I got your point ... but SSA will not add the transform effect for you, thats why I a created this simple tool, I wanted to encourage other fansubber to use karaoke in their releases. Some people just don't want to read about it or try it out ... so if there is a tool that provides them with a ready made effect then i thought it would be useful ... anyway, thanks for your reply
neonkinpatsu .... are you taking about my tool or the other one? have your tried mine ? I hope so ...
tikleabubble .... you have to define a style in SubStation Alpha and then apply that style on the karaoke line ...

@msoms-anime
what i meant was, to remove the singers voice. I mean if you go to a KTV-place your voice replace the original singers voice. I was just curious if it was possible with this programm.

| @amrayu, I've been trying the Karaoke Mode the SSA and I was wondering if SSA do the transitions letter by letter or just syllables? Thank you before hand.
