As I said I tried crumja's sweating I have not tried this program to compare the 2. Waiting to see if anyone else does. I'm not actively doing any of this stuff and only learned subbing for fun Tongue

@amrayu, I've been trying the Karaoke Mode the SSA and I was wondering if SSA do the transitions letter by letter or just syllables? Thank you before hand.

I know it was directed @ amrayu but generally karaoke should be in syllables. It might help you to space the syllables all out first, then turn karaoke mode on for all the {\k##}'s to come up (unless you wanna add them manually), and remove the spaces where needed so the words are as you want them to appear. I wasn't sure exactly what you were getting at so I don't know if that helps. Not sure what you meant by transition either sweating

Ok...it's not working....do I have to create a separate ssa file for the karaoke lines? What's the code for karaoke?

It's much easier (for me) to do the lyric file separately instead of w/ the script for the whole episode, at least initially. I would save that as the original and keep it especially before adding any effects, just in case any of the tools alter the entire script (dunno if it would, never tried). I suppose you can insert later when re-timing for future eps since openings and endings start at different parts of each ep. Whatever's easier for you, b/c you can use more than 1 script file w/ subtitle filter when encoding your hardsubbed video file. I don't know how fansubbers usually do it, though.

The code for karaoke is {\k##}, ## = duration of fill or outline for the following syllable. {\ko##} is karaoke outline (letter outline changes color as syllables are being sung), and {\kf##} is karaoke fill (inside of letter changes color as syllables are being sung). I usually just throw in {\K##} instead after all timing is checked. I was always told to do that Tongue SSA and similar programs insert the {\k##}'sfor you if you click karaoke mode, if I remember correctly, it's been a long time since I've touched those programs. sweating Get all the {\K##}'s timed, then add the effects once that is saved and done.....that's my suggestion.

This is what I ended up with using the program:

Is it that I have to change something here?

The directions for this tool are a bit tough for me to understand, but I don't think you use the same stuff Mohammed used in his lines.txt file. I believe you would change them according to YOUR file's lyrics and durations. I see above that you have all of his stuff in your code, repeated over and over.

From what I understand the first number is the amount of syllables in 1 line of karaoke in the lines.txt file. For Mohammed's, there are 11. If you have more or less, I think you have to change that. Then, I think you add your syllables instead of the ones he has in there standard. Then, correct the durations in seconds. This is difficult for me b/c SSA times in (I believe) hundredths per second. Again, I haven't tried his program myself but I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding the instructions, especially since I only tried crumja's, which is different.

You have to hardcode w/ subtitle filter in VDub to test b/c Vobsub won't softsub karaoke in realtime so you'll just see your codes. That way, you can see what went wrong so you'll know what to fix. Is it that nothing happened at all, or it didn't work right?

OOH I have to use vitual dub to view karaoke??? No wonder it never works...I tried it with some tutorial in the resources for fansubbers thread b4 and it didn't work even though I was pretty sure I got the code right. I'll run some tests on virtual dub and see if it works then I'll get back to you. Thanks!

Ok how do I make subtitles pop up instead of just filling in?

I want the subtitles to pop up green and then go back to red for example.

Thank god .. at least one person thinks that my tool is useful ...

There was a problem that non of you have at least told me about ... if you have more than one line then the result file is putting them as one continuous line ... I corrected this now ... also, the output was appending the results to the same result file instead of clearing it out first ...this issue was cleared also ... so if you go to the start of the this thread and redownload the file it would be great ... you'll get the updated release ...

this tool was implemented with basic people in mind just like me ... I don't know anything in Karaoke ... I just wanted to help our dear translator "Kriptolous" in doing a karaoke for Queen's Classroom ... I learned the simple Karaoke and I have added some effects and I found out that most of the process is just a repettive work so I applied some of my knowledge in C++ and created this simple tool ... I just want to help basic people to create good looking Karaoke without wasting alot of time ... thats all ...

I junt wonder why the others are not actually using the program ... If the explanation is horrible then you should have told me before .. I could have produced a step by step tutorial to use this tool ... I'll do this in my Next reply ..

no I'm just making the karaoke go along with the original singers voice...why would I replace the original singer? You don't even know how that's gonna turn out Whistling

I was just curious 'cause somewhere I dl a KTV. and someone was able to turn a MTV-Video into a real KTV. It had the same effect like going to a KTV-Box. If you go audio left, the singers voice were gone but the music still remained. and if you go audio right you could listen to the singers voice. I just wonder how he did that.

Hi, can someone check this over for me? I timed the first line of the karaoke for Handoku. But it's not totally accurate. Is this good enough? If not how do you time for karaoke? It's kinda hard timing each syllable. I've downloaded both SSA and subtitle workshop but I don't know how to start. salut

http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2OJVAXABQTZ632XZI3AZRCIUA7

the file's only 1.8 mb. Please give some feedback!

To time it you have to listen to each syllable several times and adjust w/ the arrows. That's about all there is to it. You get better w/ practice.....it takes a long time to get a feel for karaoke timing b/c it can be tedious and frustrating and even after you have a feel it can still be that way. Pretty much just keep checking how it sounds (in whatever program you are using to time), tweak the timing, and then do a test encode. Repeat the cycle until you are satisfied.

Sometimes visually you also notice more karaoke timing errors w/ certain effects rather than the basic fill. My advice would be to do the trial and error and thing a few times, then leave it alone for a while and go back to it (a few hours, a day, a couple days, whatever). When your eyes and ears have a rest you might notice more errors when you aren't bent on getting it in one sitting. I usually would use headphones too, especially if you use SSA w/ the mono wav rip. Sometimes you can't hear as much detail in the mono wav rip so the headphones would help me hear and concentrate better. I would also recommend you have the line itself timed at least almost perfectly before you start. If you are using SSA, take advantage of the "jumps" in the line (like, when you open the wav file to time, and they show the line measuring the sound changes and crap), they are usually helpful in finding the next syllables or approximately where they are at. It would help me skip so I wouldn't have to sit and play the whole song and stop it again Tongue

I don't know how SSA works exactly. THe tutorial says left click exactly where the line starts and right click where it ends...but where am I supposed to left and right click? On the black wave line box? It's hard to get a hold of the line/bar when it's moving.

Also how do I do other effects other than the fill-in?
