It's funny when you say that there are rights to translations and rights of the viewers and rights of everybody else. Clearly, nobody's rights are protected or assured. The subbers' works get uploaded to streaming sites despite their loudest protests (and thought we might howl injustice, we don't just drop projects because of it). The viewers sometimes watch a project that ends up getting dropped with no recourse, except maybe to learn the language themselves (and yet they don't usually boycott subbers). As a translator, once I translate something, I basically resign myself to giving it up; I have translated episodes for irresponsible groups which have dropped projects without informing me. So what are my rights? And how are they protected?
However, I do believe in common courtesy in any sort of community. This means that if you were to post something not so nice, don't post it at all. And that when there is a thread for a certain group's subs, then it's that group's subs which should get posted.
I reiterate again that anybody can choose to do any project they want, and all groups/individual subbers are treated equally at d-a. The only thing is that each group must start from the beginning of the project unless he/she has the permission from the group. This person most definitely does not permission from DRM.
If this person posts the subs somewhere else, that's also her choice. As a translator and a viewer, I am in full support of new subbers doing their best and putting out subs. Besides, a little competition is usually a healthy thing. However, since she has chosen to post on d-a, then she should follow the rules.
In short, if people were to insist on "rights", subbers would be the first ones to leave this community. No, we do it because it's our passion, and those of us who don't, usually quit pretty soon.
As for the progress of HM, and the way project priority goes... You might have a group with many subbers, but all subbers are not willing to work on all projects. So the available subbers for a certain drama might only be 3 or 4 people despite the size of the group. And people get busy, especially those who are most capable (they tend to be fairly successful in life, too). As they say, don't judge a person until you've walked a mile in his shoes. So my last piece of advice to all impatient viewers: Try subtitling an episode of English TV show, and see how long that takes you (you don't even need to translate, just transcribe). After you've done that, feel free to come back and complain.

Considering the amount of noob bitching going on here I do not blame you guys at all for taking as long as you feel like on this series.
I'm not even going to try and make like some nice comments are going to reverse the effects of ignorant (or stupid) comments that have been made by people who seem to have no skill except being able to use a computer and whining.
I recall having seen some kind of policy mentioning any asking about when a project will be done results in a further delay of release. I think that's only fair and that it was humorous.
As much as I like this series I say take as long as you feel like. Some people need to grow up and realize you don't bite the hands that feeds you.

| Be patient, everyone! The timing task would, judging from my personal experience, take you at least three hours!

depending on how timing is done it can take even longer than that. when i timed i had the fortune to have already edited sub files with character names added so it took less time than 3 hours but when i didn't have such fortune ie: no character names it took sometimes 2 days to get it all right as well as editing lines to be sure only 2 lines would show(yes i timed anime), anyways everyone times at their own pace regardless of how the material they are given is or if they are given any material at all, some groups time first, then translate/edit/etc. other groups translate/time/edit. the point is everyone has their own methods of production.
in short remember the words of michael valentine smith in robert heinlein's book 'stranger in a strange land' "waiting is...."
my only hope and prayer is that softsubs for eps 9-11 will be coming out too since i prefer to watch on my standalone dvd player and hardsubs don't work as well on those, often off the screen or almost off cut in half where you can't read them.

| Don't worry. We will be releasing the softsubs for all of Hataraki Man. They will just be released a few days after the hardsubs.

| Ooohhh! I watched 9 yesterday! THANK YOU!!!! I was actually trying to watch it without English subs but with Chinese subs - that was interesting. I understood some of the Kanji but was better of just listening so I gave up and waited for 9 to be finished and it was worth it!!!!! Thanks
