Turtles Swim Faster Then Expected is totally underrated. It might be one of my favorite movies of hers. It is deceptively poignant in its uneventful-ness.

Not just saying that cause it's Juri-chan though. It's a good movie.

Edit: Juri-chan and Aoi Yuu need to make more movies together.

They acted in two movie together didn't they? Yeah, they make good partners in crime.... Big Smile

Actually the actress who's been in most dramas/movies with Juri is Shiraishi Miho - 3 times. She played the gf of Juri's elder brother in Orange Days, the music teacher in Swing Girls and Eto sensei's wifey in Nodame Cantabile. I really like her as an actress, she's got good comic timing (see Densha Otoko). Smile Juri and Shiraishi have a nice rapport too.

bmw - have you seen this movie yet? I read this off a movie site, and it looks like a good action movie written by Yoji Yamada (reminds me of Sinking of Japan though, lol).

----------------------------

SEA WITHOUT EXIT (original title: Deguchi no nai Umi)
www.shochikufilms.com/lineup/2007-2008lineup.html

Genre: DRAMA / WWII / 121 min
*Director: Kiyoshi Sasabe (Half a Confession - Han ochi)
*Writer: Yoji Yamada (director / writer for "The Twilight Samurai" "The Hidden Blade") Motofumi Tomikawa (writer for "The Eel")
*Starring: Ebizo Ichikawa, Yusuke Iseya, Juri Ueno

A strong drama written by two of the most talented writers in the Japanese film industry. It is the end of WWII, when Japan already had a sense of losing the war,but still had to send in young soldiers to fight. The desperate Japanese Navy decides to take a plan on a special submarine attack named "kaiten"(special attack submarine or "manned torpedo"). Koji Namiki, a talented young baseball player, awaits for his fate to take his mission within the gloomy ocean depths, and remembers what has taken him out into the sea.

I've had that movie for a while now... No English subtitles. Sad

Juri and Yuu make a great pair, yeah. Both great actresses too. I didn't notice at first, but Takenaka Naoto (Stresemann in Nodame Cantabile) also appeared in Swing Girls as the math (eventually jazz) teacher. He's so funny! Laugh

Where did you get Deguchi no nai umi? I'm currently trying to get the subs from a dude off mininova using utorrent, but all the seeders are stuck at 41%, and none with a complete .rar for the subs. I'm hoping it'll finish some day though.

Takenaka Naoto has been in a ton of stuff... And he typically plays kooky characters. Smile

It's been a while, so I don't recall... Maybe eMule or Mybittorrent.

Takenaka Naoto is a funny actor indeed who adds merriment to any drama. Big Smile He was also in Water Boys movie (another fun movie in the same vibe as Swing Girls).

Aw, that sucks. English subs are essential if the movie is to be assessible to an international audience. It seems like the Japanese movie industry is quite inward-looking and make movies primarily or exclusively for Japanese people...I guess they have a large domestic market that they can afford to do that. Which is one of the reasons why I'm hoping that Juri will build a big enough name for herself so that she can venture to make pan-asian films like Takeshi Kaneshiro, Koyuki and Hiroyuki Sanada. It'd be a dream come true if Juri can collaborate with other top Korean/Chinese actors in an international movie, like a Wong Kar Wai film. Cool

Asano Tadanobu + Ueno Juri = instant win

At least for me. Laugh They'd make a weird pair though. Maybe throw in Tsumabuki Satoshi beside Juri-chan. Them, plus Aoi Yuu and Mister Takeshi Kitano, with Shunji Iwai directing, with the movie scored by Joe Hisaishi. That would probably be my dream movie. thumleft

Yeah, but they look so.... bendy. Laugh

What's the best Juri-chan memorabilia to buy? I was thinking the LF cups but that seems pretty common already.

Anything Nodame, I think: I have the two box sets.... And the piano bag.... Which I gave to my niece for Christmas. Smile

The piano bag looks cute. Although my girlfriend would strangle me if I ever tried making her look like Nodame. Laugh
