If you are reading this, please take a vote.

Just out of curiosity, i'd like to know what most of the world think in regards to torrent uploads. This may or may not help, but it'd do good for community preference (hopefully).
Groink did mention smaller individual uploads helps the life of torrents to live longer and more people would be able to seed back whereas large torrents are too much to ask to seed back; I can understand that. For future releasing, this would help me to decide on how to release them according to d.a community preference.

rob, hope you don't mind, but i edited your title to include SIZE, since that's what you're asking. hope you get your answers.

my feeling is to release as individual eps - if the series is new.

if the series is older, i would recommend batching into reasonable sizes (2gb to 4gb).

EDIT:

oh, and btw:
a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to fellow d-addict member, robx

hope you're enjoying a safe and fun one!

I agree exactly with jholic. From my own feelings, and from what I gather from reading the anxious messages from other people, the episodes from the new shows are eagerly awaited and jumped on when they first come out, so seeders are prevalent.

If the series is older and all the episodes are available for a batch torrent, then do that. I think more people would be attracted to that. One click and wait seems easier than having to download individual torrents.

IMHO.

Well, seeing as you can download and seed specific files only in a batch I see no real difference.
I prefer batches because they are easier to handle. One torrent instead of 20 is just easier to keep track of.

From doing the JSoTW, I've noticed that every single batch file has at least one seed. Even older stuff that I've never heard of.

I prefer individual torrents for a new series. I feel that the seeds for the first few episodes are much more dedicated than the number of seeds in a batch file. If that makes any sense...

Here's what I was getting at back on the previous topic regarding batching...

Seed episode-by-episode FIRST, and with a few days to a few weeks in-between. By doing this, you will achieve your 10 completions much quicker so that you can break away from the swarm and go onto other things. Also, it is a fact that people with fast bandwidth will always leech within the first few hours of the torrent's life. Take advantage of that! And then... By the time the last episode is uploaded, several hundreds of people will have the previous episodes.

Now that all the episodes have been uploaded and seeded/completed well, you can then take advantage of batching. When you upload the batch, you will already have several hundred potential seeders already out there.

Now remember this... Even though the tracker says there are zero seeders, it is possible that, for example, 11 out of 12 episodes are actually being seeded. By definition of a seed, 100-percent of the pieces must be available from that seeder. So don't think that by seeing zero seeders on a batch torrent there are no seeders. You must always check the details of the torrent first.

NOW.... If you upload a batch WITHOUT first seeding the individual episodes, you'll face several problems. First, only YOU will have all the episodes from the start. There's no one out there who can help you. Remember, you must still wait for the 10 completions before breaking away from the swarm. You'll have to deal with the following:

- The leechers with fast bandwidth. Even at 4GB, they will have very little patience leeching something of this size.

- Slow leechers. Fast leechers will have no sympathy for them.

So as the fast leechers complete and break away, you MUST keep feeding pieces to the slow leechers. That's why even if you have 10 competitions, you must STILL stick around to babysit the slow leechers. Remember that the rule on D-Addicts is 1-to-1. As soon as you've uploaded the same amount you leeched, you can leave the swarm and have a clear conscience.

That's why I'm totally against uploading a batch from the beginning.

Thanks jholic.

wow there are many different opinions. It does however seem that multiple single episodes are preferred at this time. It is less troublesome to make one torrent instead of 40 torrents, but at the same time you are also right groink. There is a heavy consequences for sudden batch releasing. maybe im just dumb, but i still can't figure out how releasing single torrents helps out with batching them afterwards. Do you just delete the torrent and release a batch version even when there are still people downloading from that single episode torrent; hope that they return to look for the batch version?

Or are you saying that single episodes first to get rid of the faster leechers and then make a batch for the slower leechers? That does make sense though; if thats what you were getting at.

as you already said, robx, there's many different opinions to batching.

i think the main points are:
- people seem to definitely prefer new series in individual eps (as you get them)
- if you release as single eps, the people who complete can help you seed your batch later
- if you release older eps as a batch, you will need to seed longer and you may have people unable to maintain the seed because of the size

again, i think it depends on the seeder. what groink points out is if you release as a batch (5gb), you may have 10 guys w/ great bw speeds and they complete FIRST, while the other 200 are still at about 75%. if you drop off AND the other ten drop off, then everyone is only going to get 75%. therefore, you will probably have to seed longer.

but i still think releasing an older series in a batch is a decent decision since our tracker is getting very large, and we are encouraging people to batch their older series. if you are going to batch it anyways, you may as well batch it to begin with.

BUT it's not my bw. so it's your decision to make. if you batch, just keep it at a reasonable size (4-5gb).

I think it depends to some degree on availability, if you are working on ripping/encoding/subbing the files then you may want to release individually to keep drip feeding the leechers. If you have all the files ready to go then you may still want to use a drip feed method but then if you want the files to live on you really need to batch them.
My experience of doing this is that I seed each individual file and then make a batch and seed that again. Or I make a batch to start with and only seed it once. Because I don't have fast connection, all leechers have to wait and the fast ones feed the slow ones as I trudge along, by the time the batch is completed for the first time there are 100 seeders and I can move on.
I've also found that the larger the batch, the longer it remains seeded as people must stay on the batch longer to complete it.
Batches are also much easier to ask for and get reseeds on. I much prefer watching and responding to one request thread than 40.
