I have downloaded sub 17,18,19, and 20. These are working fine. However, when I downloaded sub 1-16 They did not work. I do not know how to convert them from rar to srt. I have read someone's instruction on how to convert from Vobsub. I have window media player classic. Could someone help me get it straight?

.rar is not a subtitle format like .srt, it is an archive. You first need to extract the files before you can use them. You can do this with winrar or 7zip. Install this on your pc, open the rar file with 7zip and you will have the .srt files.

If you want to convert .smi to .srt, one way is to open the .smi file with Subtitle Workshop. After opening, go to file >> save as >> scroll through the list of formats until you find "subrip" and save.
There may be an easier way and it may be easier to get your system playing .smi files but this works and subtitle workshop is a great programme to get to know in case you ever need to work with subtitles in future.
