I'm pretty sure she's being sued. Although I don't think we're supposed to know for what yet. But in episode 3, Yanagiba was talking about how letting a patient die can drastically change the life of the doctor, and Ryo was visiting a grave, so perhaps she killed a patient in the recent past?

The old lady came to the hospital earlier because she thought she had a problem. Yamashita's character took a look at her and thought there was no problem, and thus let her go home. However, as you know, the old lady collapses and needs surgery. Had he took greater care at examining her earlier, the situation would not have been so bad, and thus it was the result of his error. And so he tells Kuroda that he wants to apologize to the family.

i tot she found out something nasty about toda... i mean, toda is rather aggressive in this series and she seemed as though she'd do anything to get what she wants... in the beginning of the episode, she bragged abt writing this particular thesis. it was only when she went on site and was stumped by the situation did she reveal that she only actually helped her senpai with it.

so i initially figured that either ryo discovered that toda was lying on both counts and did not actually write/helped out on the thesis, or she actually did write it, but due to the situation at the site, she lied by saying she only helped out with the thesis in order to get out of it....

i have fantastic imagination... haha
