Does anyone have any news or links about this upcoming series? All I found was this short article on drama wiki and a link to the main site. But I can't read chinese =(
All I know is they recently did this huge audition to select all the cast members.
I already read the english translation of the books, and I'm really looking forward to the series!

| It's currently filming and is expected to be released next year. So far this production and its team have received a lot of criticism. Hopefully the final product will surprise us.

It probably won't be released next year... the post production will probably take a while.
I'm so confused, though. Is Yang Mi filming that and Chinese Paladin the sequel at the same time? Because she's one of the main characters in both...and they're both filming NOW.
Anyways, the cast doesn't look bad...but since they're almost all newcomers, I question their acting abilities
I think it's receiving so much criticism simply because there are so many remakes right now that it's crazy (I think they're also remaking The Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms....now all they need to do is remake the Outlaws of the Marsh and the four Classics will be completely remade). Also, the style of clothing are very different than the old one. This one's going a lot more for the artistic style, which I guess sort of fits the book.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to it(now if I can ever finish the book....). However, a new Journey to the West? Ew. No one can beat Liu Xiao Ling Tong as the Monkey King. Hello? He grew up with more monkeys than kids...who could be more monkey than him?

This is a new Cdrama that's based off the classic chinese novel, Hong Lou Meng. The english translation would be A Dream of Red Mansions, or Red Chamber Dreams, there's a lot of versions of the translation, but you get the idea.
Anyway, I guess a brief synopsis would be, the story traces the decline of the Jia family, an aristocratic house in ancient China. There's about a million different characters, but the two main ones are Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, and their love story together.
I just finished the books last week, and man there is sooo much drama throughout haha. Should make for a great drama, but it's going to be really challenging to film, since there's so many details and story lines, it'll be hard to get it all down right. I'm also pretty iffy about the casting in terms of their acting quality, but you know what all in all, I'm glad that they're using such a large cast of unknowns. It's about time they inject some new blood into the industry, especially for such a high profile drama.
As for the other three classic novels, I seriously can't see Outlaws of the Marsh making a great drama. The format of the story was really simplistic and there are simply way too many characters. And God, Journey to the West is going to be either really great or really awful. Let's all hope they don't make it a cheesy special effects comedy like the recent versions have all been. It's about time people treated that story with some respect. As for Three Kingdoms, that's going to be awesome. There's so many historical war dramas recently, that I think they've got the formula down. Just thrown in some great actors, a lot of battles, and a competent director, and it'll be awesome.
