Was the encoding changed in 11-20? It sure looks that way to me.

Normally, I put the episodes on a USB drive and play them on my Oppo. When I put these episodes on, they won't play at all. Probably because there's some incompatibility with DiVX. Same thing on my computer...I can't play them using the DiVX player. The Nero Showtime plays them ok. Usually, any of the XViD avi's play on DiVX players.

Is it the XViD version 5 encoding that needs to change to be the same as the earlier episodes?

At my end, I'll probably re-encode the later chapters...others may not be able to.

The older DivX DVD Players (5+ years - still have one Tongue) can't utilize these 2 settings that offer higher quality during encoding: QPel (quarter pixel) and GMC (global motion compensation). Most recent DivX DVD Players (3+ years), can comprehend these settings. If there are enough people viewing these w/ older DivX DVD Players, then I'll turn off these settings - hopefully the quality won't suffer too much. Will post a sample, just to see if it works for you.

OPPO has always supported GMC and QPEL, but for DivX only not for XViD.
http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/default.asp

I tried the sample and it works on my Oppo 980 player and the quality doesn't look too bad at all (interestingly, it still doesn't work in my computer's DiVX player). As with Chapters 11+, the sample looks good in my computer's Nero Showtime player.

What were the settings for the encodes of chapters 1-10?

I'm not sure how eps 1-10 were encoded. But the sample I provided used the same settings as 11-20, just w/ GMC and QPel turned off. I'm using XviD as the codec. I had an older DivX Player (6) that worked w/ it, but DivX 7 Player is weird (probably to support h.264).

Yeah, even stranged about DiVX 7 player is that DiVX Author can run episodes 11+ just fine. So, it may be the player and not the codec..though the codec is suspicious.

Well, after taking a look, all 20 eps were w/ XviD. Some used XviD 1.1.2, some used XviD 1.2.1. The 1st 10 eps didn't use GMC/QPel. The only other difference is that for (eps 9, 11-20) didn't use Packed Bitstream in order to mux the Video and Audio together.

Well, if I'm the only one noticing then I'll just convert my downloads to something that can be viewed on my DVD player before I burn them to disc.

Thanks for helping me to investigate. If you want to check it out further let me know.

Thanks again, AkumaX

Well, if turning off GMC+QPel and using Packed Bitstream to mux would solve your problems, that might be a viable solution

Here's another sample, this time using DivX5 (DivX 6.2.5 encoder)
