What? Korean dramas all have the same plotline, just different actors and settings. I haven't seen one that diverts from the general plotline yet.
There are a lot of good new ones, like the Emperor series and Han Wu Da Di. There's also "Da Zhai Men," "Da Ran Fang," etc. They're just a bit more series and not as popular among the younger crowd. | Indeed, even in the realm of wuxia fantasy, there are very many series. However, the only ones that get recognized are Gu Long / Jin Yong adaptations.
Although, given the quality of the productions, it is just as well that only the major adaptations are seen. There is simply so MUCH crap. Based on the rate of new series I see at the video store, there is over 400 series made a year. Gu Zhuang (historical costume) dramas cover 20% of them (it's fewer because of general costume cost). There is a massive amount of modern cop/military drama (20%) 10% modern political drama. 20% modern romances/relationship. 20% period romance relationship dramas (largely set in early 20th century or Ching Dynasty).

Most of the time people want exciting wuxia fight scenes and not so much political drama. Unfortunately for those people, the huge number of historical dramas try to be very realistic and thus turns off most mainstream audiences.
Also, so called "idols" always end up doing the popular gulong, jinyong stuff and never really touch the others. Most people will simply watch a series because it has people they know and will defend a series to the ends of time because someone they liked was in it regardless of how horrible it is. So when you see a bunch of older men sitting around talking about going to war with another dynasty, chances are, you really won't care who wins or loses because you don't know or care for any of them.
Therefore the common tactic of these "popular" production companies is to fill a series with as many well known people as possible and hope it sells, look at the newest flying fox from wong jing for an example (sorry to those who actually liked it). It was filled with modern celebs most of which didn't fit their roles, and with the what 300 million? (I forget exactly what was toted) budget, the special effects were horrid and the story and scenes were a total mess. While I expect nonsensical trash to be churned out by the tvb milking machine... I expected somewhat better from a bunch of movie producers with that kind of budget..
and yes.. I'm bored...

sorry to those who actually like tvb stuff, but I can pick out huge plot holes and mistakes in just about every series along with their identical plots...

That is not the opening song. Did you watch the series??
The Opening song to Lu Ding Ji I think fits it very well. Its also a very nice song and to me makes a series with a good OST even better to watch. _________________ I want to see Li Bing Bing

I agree...I'm a sucker for historical dramas with old men in them...a lot of them are actually really good.
Isn't the Flying Fox one by Tang Ren(production company)? If so, then no duh. They change all their scripts to make them idol dramas (see LoCH 08 for perfect example).

| Watch the whole series. Really like it but the censorship committee kill some of the scenes. Not so good because I get confuse on some scene. Like when Wai Sui Bo and the princess was mingling with each other. And also when Wai Sui Bo was at the Border of Russia. One minute, he's with that Russian girl .. the next .. he is in the palace. Hope they come out with a UNCUT version to this.
