So I'm studying Japanese at the university, and I want to help being a translator some time, but I have a long way to go before that, so I thought I'd help with timing, and by the little I've done I've seen that I actually learn something from that too

So, enough introduction, over to the problem, I have a hard time finding untimed translations that I can use for practicing, so that I'll be more able to help a fan-sub group actually doing something that helps them, so anybody that can help me?

1. Have persistence and patience. Lots of them.
2. Use the right software (e.g. VisualSubSync)
3. Go and help your favorite fansub to time an episode or two. Untimed translation is hard to find.
4. Listen to their criticisms and learn from there.

The best way to practice i can think of is to find translations of PVs witch are fairly easy to find on forums. most random j-pop forums have a translation post. I'd just "borrow" one of those dl the song from jpop suki and try timing those first^_^. I know some groups want you to have some experiance before you join their groups so i think this is the easvest way to doit yourself pinch

What I do is download a random RAW and type in random dialouge. xD Since its just practice, you won't use it anyways.

Hmmm, I've always wondered about fansubbing. Well, I guess I'll try and learn it a bit since I've wanted to do fansubbing since I found out about it. Suppose I could try fansubbing into spanish. Gonna dl that and give it a try. Thanks.

Of cos there are softwares for these.. There are quite a number of timing software that you can choose from but for untimed translation, the best software to use is aegisub.

Actually.. ccdj just mentioned one (i recommend it as well). it's AEGISUB.

you can google that and find the place to DL it. This program can be used to both time and typeset. =)
