Kasugai Ryuuhei is the owner of a small rice shop in Kamakura. All the locals love him but it's the opposite with his family. His stubborn and rigid ways caused his family to leave him. After a sudden heart attack, his family returns. They decide to spend time with him after being told by his doctor that he doesn't have much longer to live. Oishii Gohan is a story about a family torn apart that overcomes past problems and reunites to create new memories while reminiscing about old memories.
