The best advice is to stay away from all school dramas, they will suck. Try watching the really weird and wacky ones.

Usually I look for dramas that contain some actors/actresses I prefer but then I also have to look at the synopsis and stuff to see if I actually want to watch it. Stuff like Kyoko Fukada, I think she's cute and all but I rarely watch any of the stuff she releases...it's usually crap.

I too would recommend 1 litre of tears/ichi ritoru no namida. It's just good. The finale just came out like 20 minutes ago on D-addicts so expect kioku to release the final subs on Monday. If you know Chinese, the subs for them usually come out tomorrow.
