Make sure they're in the same location and that the file name is the same. All of this information should be under the FAQ sticky at the top.

Also, if anybody is learning kanji I still recommend "Remembering the Kanji" because it has helped many people, including me.

Just learn hiragana and katakana. As mentioned, using romaji is completely pointless. In fact, at this point I sometimes have a hard time understanding the Japanese if it's in romaji because I am so used to hiragana, katakana, and also the limited kanji I know. If you can't put aside one or two week...
