Chalk up one d-addict in Santa Cruz (well, it's better known than the city in which I actually reside). In response to Jonnses' earlier post, GO BEARS! I graduated from Cal in '--year censured to protect the elderly-- and even took a year of Japanese there. Alas, that was not enough, unfortunately, to allow me to understand JDoramas without English subtitles.

true, just read the previous pages and its all about weather. To change the topic,mizune wrote:I feel like the only reason somebody posts here is when it's about the weather... ^_^;;;
But the freaky weather cold snap.... I'm loving it!:lol
Snow, hail, rain, sun, rain, hail, sun, snow, etc..... ^_^
Do any of you guys know any colleges around here that offers Korean Language classes? In my school we only have chinese and japanese as well as others, but i really want to learn korean! The only place i found was in Sunnyvale in Adroit College. So if anybody knows of a college that offers it please tell me, hopefully somewhere near the 510 area. Thanks in advance!

I'll be going on Saturday. Eltinator and I will be holding a panel on J-dramas around 8pm or so. Look for us! We're there to represent the Drama (dorama fansubbing) scene.topnotch97 wrote:okay Bay Area people, wake up!

I *might* be dressing up as Yankumi just for the hell of it.
So, if anyone here wants to meet Eltinator and amrayu, hit us up this Saturday! See ya'll there.

fanime was cool. we played some songs indoors until staff gave us the boot
then we ended up playing outside the convention center. i think we got booked to play anime expo next month. we were the dudes wearing white shirts and ties (a la l'arc in stay away) occasionally wheeling around a crapload of instruments.

Nice pics. I just moved out to the bay area for the summer a couple weeks ago, but was too short on cash to look into fanime (plus the fact that I don't like anime at all). It might have been worth it just for the costumes though. I've gotta ask, anyone know what's up with the stormtroopers? They seem a little... out of place.

as for the storm troopers, they're not really out place. in fact every year these guys always show up at Fanime. we don't mind at all, and none of the con goers mind at all.
in fact some star wars fans are also anime fans, and vice versa. just like anime fans who are also asian films and drama fans. so fanime is not really specific to one group of folks. it's for everyone to enjoy.
not only that, but another convention was running at the same time as Fanime, it was BayCon, which is a sci-fi convention that is actually held not far from downtown san jose. so they usually come by and check us out
and also they get a chance to have a panel for costume building and so and so, which even the con goers even love it.
one thing that i notice is that chicks love taking pictures with the storm troopers. these guys get all the chicks. ahahahahaha

Cool, it just seemed kinda strange. I like the troopers though, I'll actually probably be seeing some tonight. I'm originally a Star Wars fan (long before I every found j-dorama) and there's a book signing for Aaorn Alliston tonight. Usually get a bit of a crowd in costume for these. Its not here in the bay area, I've gotta head back to Indiana for a wedding.

Haha~ Making a club would be a great idea. I'm new and am in the Bay Area~ =] I haven't been addicted to many dramas just yet. Can you guys recomend me a drama that has romance mixed in with politics, law, or war? Any would do. I'm currently watching Love Story in Harvard and I find anything with law spices up everything within the actual drama. You guys know better than me. :]

Hey I'm from the Bay too! Hint, hint: I wish Utada would have a concert in SF since I'm an hour away from there...
It would be funny if some us are living next door to each other, but don't know it . I know this is off topic, but are there as many Japananese people and J-stuff in San Diego as there is in LA?

Since you're in San Francisco, would you kindly help me to find out how much Tai seng series actually cost particularly with English subtitle. I've checked Yesasia, and I think there might be cheaper if I could get one set in ground. Thanks a lot for reading.
*never mind --- I already found out the price apparently it's cheaper than YesAsia's.

Japanese video stores in the SF Bay Area?
Hello~
I just recently moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area from Texas (yay!) and I am wondeirng if anyone knows about any good Japanese video stores here? I know there is Japan Video in SF Japantown, but other than that, I am fairly clueless. I am mainly looking for places that might carry Japanese TV shows (music/entertainment) or raw TV dramas. I remember there used to be a video store next to the Mitsuwa in San Jose, but I don't know if it's there any more. Anime video stores are nice, but I am really looking for live-action stuff.
My work is a block away from Oakland's Chinatown, so I know of a couple of video stores there that have taiwan dramas, but now I need to find jdrama. Hmm, now that I think about it, korean video stores would be good too, if they have k-dramas...
Anyway, any help would be appreciated!
I am so happy tp be back in California

wow. I must say, there are a lot of fansubbers in the bay area. including myself
I've lived in 650 for 1yr, 925 for 5yrs, and 408 for 3yrs.
@emi
if you go to Mitsuwa, there's a video rental shop next to it that has all the latest Japanese dramas for rental.
best one and almost everyone I know goes there.
oh, and lately there's this girl in the bay area who's selling her drama collection for $1/ep (so 10 ep series = $10)

*hopefully you have mixi.
I don't know why I'm advertising for her... >.>

Brragh... We were just talking about earthquakes at work today too....
The only other time I've experienced an earthquake was when I was in Japan... and that one was just barely perceptible... Things swaying on the 4th floor of a building though.... O_o;
mmm.... I really gotta go find a way back East....

I live in (650) as well, but the swaying lasted longer than 3-4 sec.... Might have something to do with being on the 4th floor.
I just kept waiting for the other shoe to drop... wondered if I should go outside or what... ^_^;
For us east coast transplants, what exactly is the protocol for this? Tuck yourself in a load-bearing door frame?
