That is a darn good question.Kagesou wrote:are you black?
The president of the united states gets asked that all the time. So does Vin Diesel but he usually denies it.
My father was born and raises here in the states with family that can be traced back into slavery.
My mother is Honduran SHe was born and rasied in the Cayman Islands.
SO dpeending who you are asking..I am either..black..or hispanic..or both.
However it is usually the general consensus that people of color that are half black are usually looked at as hal black.
This goes back to the days of slavery and before that.
In fact Alexander Dumas, the writer of such tales as The man in the iron mask andThe Three musketeers considered himself black. He was asked after his fame and he said "Where you see yoru blood line ends I see mine begin"
you se, during times of american slavery it wasn't uncommon fo rthe salve masters to have their way with women. with or against their will wasn't a factor in their eyes but the children that were born well...it was always a slave. Muh like Hong Gil Dong in a way I guess.
But some of the lighter sinned slaves were usually workers inside the house whiel the darker skin slaves were workers of the field. The females and many times males were used for "various services' and if one or the other owners grew tired of them they would just send them into the field again. Back amongst his own kind.
So when you hear a self identified black person says someone like Tiger Woods or Halle Berry. is black it is because of that. "They are white when everything is alright but black when something cracks" Usually this is proof when DWB or Driving While Black
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_While_Black or trying to get a cab in New York City.
Yes I do ask the closest white woman to hail cabs for me. It does suck...hard.

Maybe that comfort granted me with black friends.
Btw, I find this article really comical: http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/05/12/99-grammar/

**** where you put my keys!
HOWEVER!
the same way there are different cultural distinctions in any ethinc group the same goes for black people as well.
DO NOT call anyone a ****. EVER!
The same gos for hoes, skank, or scandalous skeezer or stunt.
It's usually used by males to take away power from a female to make her seem less to the males eye to make her to appear more pliable ,controllable, etc.

so Fantastical: can you dance?
Break dance pop and lock, waltz foxtrot tango.
as with any dance it took practice and commitment.
Why is it that it seems that we and dance and white people can't
It's the music and christianity
Well..this is just from what I have heard.
In alot of christian cultures bakc in the day
a lot of movin and shaking wasn't allowed.
I heard that the Celts use to really get down with their pagan selves.
But after christianity as introduced they were told to only move from the waist down.
WHich results in that Riverdance stuff.
So how did black people escape.
New Orleans actually and places like it
New Orleans unlike a lot of other places that had slavery they allowed their slaves to practice their own religion. SO they still were able to make their own drums and keep their own dances. of course as time went by some dances became other dances and moves. but the general idea of communicating emotions with dancing stayed thorugh the course of american history. You see when you had groups like the four tops and the platters.. those doo-wop groups they had to move in a way that would not offend the tv audience I.E. white conservate people. SO there moves were flashier than the usual crooners. Then you had guys like Elvis picking up dance moves. Oddly enough if you look through history you can see that every nations dances that has an aristocratic and lower worker classes has similar dancing styles. The richer has mroe waltz like moves stiff...slow moving...and les interpersonal with the other dance partner while the less well to do side of town had dancing that was wilder and more intimate with eahc other. A lot more suggestives moves a lot more animated.
Now how is it that it seem sliek all black peopel know how to dance? TV
it's was hard to get on tv as anythign but a dancer or a singer rmemebr kids being a black athlete and secind string one is pretty new. So in order to make that entertainer money you had to eithe rsing (with the help of your local baptist church usually) OR some sort of tap dancer...that was one push..the other...YOu really couldn't afford to go to the movies or ther ewere none. Wite's only maybe but as far as dancing you culd do that at yoru home or everyone could gather at somebody's hose that had the latest album. The community gathered and peopel danced and learned from each other.
Dancing was has still is a sign of verility.
SOme black people just don't dance or can't dance.
I personally think everyone can dance. I teach all my friends if they want to learn and me have fun. Not every black person moves like MJ or Chris Brown but we get our groove on.
Those that an't...they feel they can't The sam eas cooking or whatever
I don't wanna be picky but moving with hips down was considered as lustful, that is why it was forbidden. But you know, it wasn't forbidden ENTIRELY. I want to remind everybody of Carnival, the only time when fool became king, when everything was allowed. Even very, very naughty dance. And there are lot of stereotypes on Middle Ages, but you know, the times were so unhinged back there, Middle Ages is a fascinating time of huge contrasts. And not of darkness. Read Name of the Rose, people, you will laugh your a.., ekhem heads off^^Fantastical wrote: But after christianity as introduced they were told to only move from the waist down.

Riverdance is another history, it has a little in common with true Celtic dancing.

AHH! I love this queston!Cherek wrote:Yo fantastical,
Is it true that black ppl under each other somehow always try to show off with especially expensive stuff?
this is my question to a black guy so far more will come
The "What's with all the bling"? question
Well everyone shows off their weatlh.
Just in different ways.
SOme it's real estate and yachts.
Other it's iced out watches and diamond studded white gold fronts
WHy the gold and jewelry
Easy! It was a lot harder to get real estate.
a lot of peopel won't sell houses to black peopel (to this day)
in fear of the neighborhoods property worth dropping.
"If them darkies move in you know the spics ain't far behind!!"
So if you were stuck in the projects or areas where the property was the same no mattr what you did you had to show your success in other ways.
For some it's jewelry or clothing some it's hair.
(I recommend watching the documentary Good Hair by Chris Rock into the insight of black hair care and black women. )
Another good depiction of black people back in the day is a movie called "Boyz in da hood" starring Cuba Gooding Jr and Lawrence Fishburne
Now unfortunately people emulate what they see on tv.
Now back in the 90's rap went from rap about unity to rap about the struggle of th west coast. gangster rap took over thn rap from the ATL and that area hit. SOmehow keeping it real meant keeping it grimey for record companies.
(watch CB4 with yet again Chris Rock) You had to be a thug then after awhile you had to be a thug that made it. but you still had to be a thug.
Ca't have a rapper that finished college. that would be against the laws of rapping?
A good example of that is The Cosby Show
Yes many critics including BET Television (which i call Black Exploitation Television) Thought that the portrayal of a blakc family with both parents and one that went to medical school and became a doctor while the wife was a lawyer was unrealistic AND impossible. They didn't have flashy jewellery or anything and they weren't entertainers. hey got their success through college despite the fact that there are a decent of mouth of black college (cuz..you know...whitey wasn't having a black guy up in Harvard..That just wasn't happening..nah...) It wasn't that far behind that Good Times was seen as an accurete potrayal of every black family then The jeffersons a black man that started his own successful business. then the Cosby show then The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
But these unfortunately are rare shows and sadly enough the only show that showed asians not in a restaurant as a family business was All American girl Starring Margaret Cho. No one was a martial arts instructor or a cook or the usual tv tropes.

Too many atachmens with pagan holidays like Ostara (DON'T TOUCH THE MAYPOLE KIDS!)
Well most of those carnivals were due to the fact that they weren't christians they were a large segment of the Rom (you might know them as gypsies but gypsy is a bad term. don't use it. thanks) and every kingdom knows you need an outlet for vice. Even kings had pimp cups.

I heard that somewhere...possibly...CNN...I don't know...
Fantastical, it seems you're answering questions from a Black American's point of view (I hate the term 'African American cause it's bloody stupid). For eg, the Ebonics thing only applies to Americans. In Jamaica, less than 5% of the population is white/asian/whatever else, so naturally certain stereotypes wouldn't apply because there is a range of different personalities. I can't dance and know many others who can't either; some people's grammar suck but this happens with all races so...nothing to write home about.
I have a question though: Why do you keep spelling 'people' wrong?

Whip is another name for car. so both can apply.
yanked from Urban Dictionary
"When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the "whip". The whip is what you used to control the horses on a stagecoach, hence the analogy. Many years later, various hip hop artists noticed that the Mercedes-Benz logo resembled a steering wheel. They then proceeded to use the old term "whip" to describe any Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The term has now been generalized to classify any expensive automobile.
The new show "Unique Whips" on SpikeTV is obviously going to suck."
is it from a black american point of view...being from the USA...I wold say so.
Now if you are wondering why not Jamacia it's because in my dealings in my life Jamaian do not consider themselves "black" at all. They see themselves as Jamacian which means as I have been told (screamed at) The only thing I have in common with them is my skin color nothing else. in america there is a big fallout between the Jamacian, African, and black American communities. Could it be the way Black Americans are potrayed overseas? Maybe? The same for people of africa or jamacia? possibly. Difference in dialect and speech understanding one another? very possible.
Do I associate with people from Africa and / or Jamacia? yep.
As far as myself spelling peopel wrong? wrong (just like that) it's the same as mispelling the word The which many people do as "Teh" and many other errors that are found on the internet. I amnot much of a spelling slut. My American Sign Language is weak as it is perfecting my typing isn't the top of the list. I don't feel the need to error correct every single word I mistype unless it's for a formal business letter or presentation.
Maybe that's just me.

First off I can fluently speak in the dialect of ebonics (florida style), i also can speak "the king's english" as fanatical said. The reason for me to speak ebonics is very simple, I speak to people in the way in which I think they would feel the most comfortable. Also (erroneously) it gives me a sense of authenticity. When a guy sees me in a suit, he assumes that I'm proper, but if I speak to him like regular dude from jacksonville he is calmer and thinks "oh this nigga knows what's up". Its like the same feeling if I go to japan and start a conversation with a dude about juri ueno... he will be like, "okay this dude is cool' I'm not really cool, nor do I know what's up per say, but familiarity brings with it a sense of comfort, which in turn relaxes one, which in turn builds rapport. Sounds complicated, but its a fairly intuitive process that you probably do yourself. Just a method to build rapport.
I'm black and I can dance, my sisters are black my brother is black none of them are really good at dancing.
I'm black and I love fried chicken, but so do the other non-blacks in popeyes.
I'm black and called women hoes for most of my life, I know plenty black guys who are very offended by this.
I'm in Japan right now as I type and you would be surprised how many black stereotypes you can put on japanese people, lol. We are all the same, we really are, culture separates us, but we really are all the same...

We are all the same, we really are, culture separates us, but we really are all the same...
i get what u are saying. kind of like when i speak to Asians that dont speak english very well, i dumb it down a notch, like slower, simple words to make them feel comfortable. or i will speak chinese to those i know who are chinese to make them feel more comfortable with me, and they might give me a discount !!!
yea, we are all the same. at least, u know what? on the internet, if we dont know what we are, where we are from, i would probably never realize Fantastical and you are both black. and vice versa.

Where I work I have to differentiate between them. Either one gets upset when I say the wrong thing. I mean what the hell is this? Live with it dammit! You all would say the same about us. I wonder what Jamaicans you're talking to. lol. Well I admit that we're more inclined to first say we're Jamaican than we're black, but it's not because we don't consider ourselves black. Technically speaking we're all mixed, hence our motto - Out of Many One People. A 'pure' black person is a rarity. Take myself for example - my great grandfather was Scottish and my great grandmother was Indian, then somewhere along the line black got mixed in, but if anyone asks my race the first thing I'll say is black. When I look at my skin that's what I see. lol.Fantastical wrote:Yes! Black American!Arhazivory wrote:You're wrong. BMW means 'Black Man's Wheels'.Fantastical wrote:
I thought BMW stood for Black Man's Whip.
Black Americans are portrayed mainly as being more gangsta than anything else (except for Cosby show and a few others). I always wonder why a movie with predominantly black people for example would have violence, cursing etc as side themes; that's just annoying. I'm sure not all Black Americans talk smut 90% of the time.
The 'peopel' thing is odd. I've come across the 'teh's' and the 'wut' but peopEl...that's kinda off. -_-
Wow, after reading the title I didn't know what to expect, but who'd have thought there'd be some thought out conversation. On the internet! I know! LOL
jigenbakuda speaks a lot of truth.
I remember one time there was this newbie speaking in slang at work. It was almost like a strange parallel universe.
Especially as my speech is automatically locked on "the queens english" at work. I could feel my brain burning rubber trying to figure out how I wanted to speak.
In the end I think it came out as a random mix, including expletives. LOL
Hmm I agree this is very America-centric. As an Englishman I would like to verify that fried chicken has my firm seal of approval!!
And I do know some black people who can't dance, but they all happen to hang out in white areas. So either it has nothing to do with race, or its contagious LMAO.

Yep. Pretty much all cultures are mixed here as well, so you won't find any (english) slang here that belongs to a single racial group. Slang changes from city to city but that's pretty much the only factor.
Not even the N word belongs to black people, because black people don't want it!
London in particular is the biggest crazy mix you have ever seen. I think because it is so dense, you'd have a hard time trying to segregate yourself, or staying ignorant of other cultures, even if you wanted to. I think the result is that the cultures merge a lot easier than geographically spread-out places.
We do have our own integration problems...but they're far from racial.

You can't blame someone for not being able to tell. But I can tell from my asian friends hassles that the problem isn't that.
The problem is that even when corrected people shrug it off like there's no difference...instead of accepting that they're wrong and being sincere.
It's nothing particularly to do with asians though. Wrongly guess someone's origins / nationality and then shrug it off as "close enough, you're all the same"
and prepare to have a severely pissed-off response. If they tried it with african countries, they'd get the same, but they'd probably be (acurately) called racist.

as if Asia was a country. and as you have said the same with Africa.
Next time someone ask you just explain teh difference. God knows how many times I've meet someone that has never seen a black person before in person.
they wanna touch my hair and all of that stuff.
SOme people don't
For me it depends on the person. I always let kids touch my hair.
I usually get it's liek cotton sheep wool or clouds.
It's understandable to be pissed at the moment but at times like that just explain the difference. You might start them on the path of learning on a new culture.
That's why I put this up
I want peopel to talk about their cultures.
I personally know nothing about Hong Kong except that there is a Hong Kong.
Or Taiwan or a lot of other places.
Doesn't mean I don't want to learn.
I would love to learn but it's a sensitive or personal subject to alot of people.
who would I ask other than wikipedia? In my neighborhood? no one really.
I could try going to Chinatown but again who would I ask?
someone shoudl start ASK a Hongkie!

I was once told that people with disabilities prefer it when someone takes an actual interest in the condition they have and ask them about it, instead of staring in disgust or just assuming they are contagious. I assume the same is for any minority in a culture. (having a disability makes you a minority by the way). Just don't be offensive and even if the person is cold or unfriendly you can still learn.
If you have a question about someone's ethnicity, or anything I think you should literally rush at the opportunity to do so. Not only do you grow in character by acquiring more knowledge, but you have the potential to make another friend by talking to someone, and we all know in this world, its who you know, not what you know
As for big butts... Well growing up around big butts, it was more like the norm. Every girl (*cough, cough* most..) Girls had big butts, so having a butt that I could not palm with my hands was very normal. It was not until after I graduated college and being around more white people (asians are rare in jacksonville, or at the least they stay in the house...) that I noticed... Damn... what the hell happened to her butt... was it eaten... gangrene perhaps... no, definitely atrophy of the rear... But yet and still I prefer a great lower body over a great upperbody. But my girlfriend is japanese and she has very little butt, but its soft, so its all good , he he. I can not speak for all men, but I prefer a larger hips / butt on a woman, but its not a requirement tho.
But interesting observation. Women from other cultures that like black guys / the mystic of the hip-hop culture, tend to be bigger women and have more impressive butts. I'm not sure why, but a lot of white girls we went to school with, and amejou that I see in japan, have ridiculous bodies... like.. "you sure you aren't mixed with black" bodies. Maybe because they are rejected by their culture because of their body type (too much body) so they gravitate toward one in which their body type is appreciated. By the way for most of these women they tend to actually be partakers in the hip-hop culture as well (speaking urban slang, dressing like black girls, etc...) Latina girls tend to have bigger bodies, but mainly the ones that are mixed with black slaves (ie. cuban and brazilian)
Edit: Fanatical, it kinda hard to really really understand and laugh at boondocks unless you are in or know a great deal about contemporary urban black culture. My parents were lost when me and my brother had them watch the show (why are they cussing so much, that girl needs to put some clothes on, the standard old black people responses, lol) But I agree that the show is a GREAT look into contemporary black urban culture. And to new watchers of the show, pay attention to huey he is the person to actually learn from. Damn that show is good, I need to rewatch...

wow......steam wrote:i'll ask the tough question...
do blacks really have larger penises?
umm...
I'll tell you waht..this is what I found
Thank you for an interesting question.
Penis size
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis_size
Penis size myths and legends
"Many cultures have a persistent urban legend that the penis size of
some minority groups is larger than the norm. In the United States,
the minority group chosen is African-American. This appears not to be
supported by anything other than anecdote. Fanon covers this subject
in some detail in "Black Skin, White Masks", and tends to agree that
this is a myth -- a conclusion that he backs up with statistics. On
the other hand, Philippe Rushton has published statistics claiming
otherwise (Race, Evolution, and Behavior: A Life History Perspective,
1995).
The only reliable penis-size studies commonly quoted in the literature
are the Kinsey study, the UCSF study, and an Italian study, none of
which even attempted to correlate size with race. There is an ongoing
government study in India, as well, commissioned with the goal of
helping reduce the high condom failure rate there. This study is not
likely to answer the question either. There have been many other
studies with claims of varying rigor - for example, the LifeStyles
condoms study -- but they are generally flawed by selection bias."
=================================================
Phalli
http://www.sexualrecords.com/WSRphysiology.html
Largest Penis by Race
"It is generally said that the penis of the Negro is very large," so
wrote German anthropologist Johann Friedrich Blumenbach in 1795. "And
this assertion is so far borne out by the remarkable genitory
apparatus of an Ethiopian which I have in my anatomical collection."
Louis Jacolliet, a 19th century French writer who spent three decades
investigating penis size, had this to say: "In no branch of the human
race are the male organs more developed than in the African Negro."
Certainly, the belief in the well-endowment of the African race has an
extensive history. But is it justified by the facts?
Going strictly by the Kinsey data, which still remains one of the most
exhaustive studies on penis size to date, the average white male has a
penis measuring 6.2 inches long and 3.7 inches around, whereas the
average black male has a penis 6.3 by 3.8 inches, for a difference of
0.1 inches--not what you'd call statistically significant. When it
came to flaccid length, however, blacks fared a little better: 4.3
inches long, versus 4.0 inches for white males. So it may be,
therefore, that while those of African heritage appear larger
initially, under actual working conditions things tend to even out.
You should consider this a tentative hypothesis rather than a
scientific fact, as there were only 59 black respondents to the
survey, versus 2,500 for whites."

***Note*** (studies included female genital/breast sizes - which I
have edited out of the article.)
"Thus, the human penis shows high species-specificity as an elaborated
genital structure. Penis size also varies moderately across
populations, being largest among African populations, smaller among
European populations, and smallest among East Asian populations, but
with substantial overlap (Rushton, 1987, 1988b, 1989b). Penises are
highly age-specific, attaining their full resting size only after
puberty, and are highly courtship-specific, attaining their full erect
size only under sexually arousing conditions. Thus, penises show all
the hallmarks of a morphological trait elaborated somehow through
sexual selection." (Miller, Geoffrey F. (1994)"
[edit]
"The ethnographic record {e.g., A French Army Surgeon (1898/1972), a
30-year specialist in genitourinary diseases} makes reference to
numerous anatomical distinctions which show a similar pattern of
whites being between blacks and Orientals."
[edit]
"We averaged the ethnographic data on erect penis and found the means
to approximate: Orientals, 4 to 5.5 in. in length and 1.25 in. in
diameter; Caucasions, 5.5 to 6 in. in length and 1.5 in. in diameter;
blacks, 6.25 to 8 in. in length and 2 in. in diameter."
[edit]
"Arab men, who were often mixed with black, had larger penises than
Europeans. Recent data show similar patterns. Measurements taken from
living subjects as well as those at autopsy, show the size of testes
is twofold lower in Asian men than Europeans (9 g vs 21 g), a
difference too large to be accounted for entirely in terms of body
size (Diamond, 1986; Short, 1984)."

According to Chinese sources published in Taiwan the average length
for a Chinese male is between 11(4.4") and 12(4.7") centimeters for
an erect penis. Most sources seem to agree. Japanese sources (read
in Chinese) state the average length of an erect Japanese penis is
13.6(5.35").

psychologist. Rushton has argued that Asians are more intelligent than
Caucasians, have larger brains for their body size, smaller penises,
lower sex drive, are less fertile, work harder and are more readily
socialized; and Caucasians have the same relationship to blacks.

Myths concerning males
Black men have naturally larger penises than white men.
"This couldn't be further from the truth. Based on a number of surveys
(most notably Masters and Johnson), of thousands of men of many
different races, white males actually have the largest penises. White
males averaged an erect penis length of 6.4" while black males
averaged 6.2". Hispanic men averaged 6.0" and finally east Asian men
bring up the rear with a meager 5.6"
[edit]
"Erect penis lengths are taken by measuring from the TOP of the penis,
where it joins the body, to the tip of the head."

Since then I make sure to bring my own. When will someone invent the one-size-for-all? Maybe it could mold itself or somethin...
I really wonder how many STDs people catch because of these issues. Not everyone has the will power to refrain for their entire holiday.
