Does anyone know where I can get Long Vacation? I've been hearing some good reviews of it. I've searched for torrents but there doesn't seem to be any available here at d-addicts...

Could you nice people point me in the direction of your favorite series? I'd prefer not to pay for any just yet, so if there are torrents to your fav. drama that would be even better. On a side not, I'm really not looking for a show like Densha Otoko. I'd just like to try out maybe a different one. I don't know what to say, lol..
Thanks alot!

I read something about this series, "Densha Otoko" I want to see it but at D -Addicts there are no torrents without english subtitel ? what do shall I do,, do ya have a link or something

=_= ah well

Post by oabeo » Nov 3rd, '05, 01:08

this is all about ones interest;
i think there is no way to say which drama was good or bad; =_=

i recommend to see :

Sleeping forest
Water boys2
Remote
Hero
Tiger and Dragon (=_= does addict have this?)
Black Diary
For the future we had shared (=_-?)
Kokusen
one million stars falls from the sky(=_=)
To heart

Some dramas are based on Asian culture. So people who born ed in
U.S.A or Canada or other continent maybe don't understand.
Also Tiger and Dragon is kind of Japanese comedy so some Korean people
don't like this too. (my sister did;=_=)

I'm Tsuyoshi Domoto(Kinki Kids)'s fan so I watched most of this drama;
I love his acting but the reason I didn't write "SUMMER SNOW" is it just
didn't fit on me; =_= so people; don't blame other people because they
said 'that drama was suck' =_= who cares? it's their opinion.

I'm a great fan of jidai-geki -- waiting with bated breath for more Yoshitsune episodes.

I keep hoping someone will upload some of the other Taiga dramas and other shows like the longer New-Year specials.

Let's see...

1. Damo (Korean) - sister & brother falling in love then finding out they're related I think... :glare:

2. A Million Stars Fall from the Sky (Japanese) - 2 people fall in love then find out they're brother & sister. I really recommend this one. Very very emotional and I was crying buckets watching it. It's good!

3. Devil Beside You (Taiwanese) - kind of the same as S.O.S. with stepsiblings falling in love.

4. First Love (Japanese) - teacher/student

5. Marmalade Boy (Taiwanese) - same as SOS and DBY.

6. The Rose (Taiwanese) - 3 siblings tangled up in some bizarre love triangle.

7. True Love aka The Deal is 18-Years-Old (Taiwanese) - teacher/student

And as some people mentioned, Kou Kou Kyoushi and Autumn Tale are really really good too! Hope that helps you out! :salut:

I highly recommend Trick series (all 3 seasons). They're currently being seeded well, so you can grab them now. I enjoyed the series tremendously. It's hilarious, the characters have great chemistry together, the stories are well developed. I'm sure, you'll learn a trick or more when you finish this drama. It's one of the few dramas that I felt so sad to part with the characters when the end arrived. The drama is soo entertaining, it's perfect to watch for relaxation and for good laughs, but some of the stories in there will make you think as well.

Check out this thread:

Period jdramas aren't all that common outside of the perennial NHK Taigas, but besides the Taiga series, there are a few other ummm...pop-serials like the classic Abarembo Shogun series and Ooku that is airing now which you can find torrents for by searching the tracker....(seeds is another question though)

Now what?

Post by Strider » Nov 8th, '05, 06:02

After watching Densha Otoko, I'm wondering if this is the end? This was the first JDrama I've every watched and I'm pretty much speechless... _| ̄|○
Do you have any recommendations that may fall into the same category as Densha Otoko? (comedy/romance?) I'm currently looking into GTO live action and the list from "RECOMMENDED/FAVORITE JAPANESE DRAMAS", but your suggestions are greatly appreciated, I guess it doesn't have to be a JDrama also.
Sorry, I recently found this site after watching Densha, and am pretty new to the d-addict world, so please excuse my noobness.

I have to go with:

Taiyou No Kisetsu - Even though this is a really messed up drama, I love it. I think the plot twists were timed really well, which made this a lot better than I orignially thought it would be.

GTO - I prefer the anime, but I think they did a great job with the Live Action.

Hana Yori Dango - Just watch it.

Hero - This is just has a great comedic factor to it. This could've easily become a sitcom.

As I remember I think made my recommendation in thread long time ago but,now I have a more updated list . Ths list is in no particular order ( because I love them all :lol )

_Hana Yori Dango ( it's currently airing in Japan, and we have 3 eps with eng sub here at D-Addicts) this is currently one of my fav. it's based on the manga Hana Yori Dango. A must for everyne who loves romace/comedy drama. XD
_ Hoshi No Kinka (part 1 and 2) a great love story, not a comedybut for people who like serious love relationship.
_ Long Vacation. it's just great. Beautiful melody that makes your heart sings
_ Star No Koi A really funny one to watch. Trust me it's worth your time. :tv:
_ Garasu No Kamen ( part 1 and 2) for those who's addicted to the manga. But some of you might be a little bit dissapointed. To me it's still a good one to watch.
I'm downloading Kimi wa petto and Itsumo Futari De. Can't wait to watch them :w00t:

Beautiful Life
Sekai No Chuusin
Denchi ga kireru made
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake

not to mention half the K-dramas out there, Lavender if you're into TW stuff...

Edit: I see you already have Denchi. You could try Deep Love as well, though it's not subbed.

You have to see Sekai No Chuusin - It has a purity aspect to it that alot of Dramas lack. The girl main actress is very very good in this. Not just a pretty face, but a very very talented actress at such a young age.

Sekachu is definitely the best.
Not only Ayase Haruka, but Yamada did a splendid job in this one. He´s not cute, not hot, but he´s very talented. Cried on ALL episodes. A really good dorama, you won´t regret watching it. Definitely!!!!

Beautiful Life isn´t a tearjerker. I didn´t cry in this one.

Kamisama, mou sukoshi dake is another good tearjerker. A good drama, and cast make a pretty decent job, even Kyoko Fukada.

By the way, I should mention that I know Japanese, so I don't care whether or not it is subtitled. I prefer raw files rather than hard-subs... But hard-subs are okay if the show is good enough that they don't matter, like Denchi ga Kirareru made.

I tried downloading Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu a while back, but there weren't any seeders. The pictures made me think it was about romance... I'm not into that so much, but thanks for recommending it. I am looking for more of a parent-child connection, or child-child connection like Grave of the Fireflies.

I am not really looking to watch Korean, Taiwanese or Chinese shows, but if there are some really really good ones out there with English or Japanese subtitles, I will check them out... Especially if they are about the situation of children. A lot of people recommended 1 Littoru no Namida, and as I said I really enjoy that series. Definitely recommend other shows like that.

Right now I am downloading ep 7 of 1 Littoru... I'd appreciate some more suggestions, with emphasis on childhood experiences.

Thank you.

Mmm....Your request is pretty specific, which makes it difficult.... O_o;;;

Here's one kdrama that I would highly recommend, and I think might fit the bill: Ruler of Your Own World
Technically, it's about an ex-con who is diagnosed with a terminal illness and decides to change his life and those of the people closest to him. So what does this have to do with your request?
Well, it's actually quite subtle because most of the primary characters are already adults, but as the story moves along, you get to see a lot of parent-child relationships and how their history has shaped their characters.

As for jdramas...
Mariya/Maria?
I only skimmed through the first episode but it seems to be about the relationships between siblings after the discovery of a previously unknown half-sister with a terminal illness. Like I said, I haven't watched the whole series, but it seems that there would also be some potential for some parent-child development since
a) the deceased father never told his children about the other child...why?
b) the half-sister is much younger than the other siblings, so somebody will probably take up a parental role...
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here...

Yasashii Jikan
Ok, so it's not a tearjerker and people complain that the plot is slow (it's on my "to watch" list too ^_^; ), but by all accounts it's heavily involved story about a father-son relationship.

Haru to Natsu
Mmm...not really a tearjerker either per se, but pretty dramatic. Two sisters who were separated for 70 years reunite. The story revolves around their lives growing up without knowing the wherabouts of the other and the hardships they faced.

Home Drama
Hahaha...another one I haven't watched (but I've been meaning to get around to looking for) :fear:. I remember it was uploaded at jpopsuki a while back, but I didn't get it then and the torrents have been trimmed since. Anyhow, I believe this one is about creating a new family out of the survivors of a bus wreck. There are some kids in this one, but it seems that familial roles will get hashed out along the way...

Mmm...I'll see what else I can think of...
Sorry if these all seem like longshots, but between those requirements and availability...

I really don't want to start a new thread just for one silly question so I think I'll just post it here. If a mod. sees this as being inapropriate for this thread kindly tell me and I will make another thread or move it or something.

Anyway, I'm -very- new to Japanese Dramas and I just finnished watching my first drama 'Tokyo Love Story' because I heard it had rave reviews and I LOVED it! I was wondering if there were any other dramas that could be recommended to me that were along the same lines as TLS storywise or of any dramas that actors/actresses were in that were good. I esp. loved the actor who played Kanji and the actress who played Rika. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I agree with the other people in this thread recommending "Sekai no Chuushin de...". It was a real tearjerker though the theme of parent-child relations specifically were relatively minor in context.

In addition, I would suggest "Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi". Apparently, the theme of the series was 'kizuna'. It was not really a tearjerker per se, but it took a 'real' issue in contemporary Japanese parent-child relations and explored it in a serious and thoughtful manner, IMHO. Unlike other typical dramas that may discuss some social problem and just glosses over any possible solutions, it actually suggests one possible approach that deals with the particular situation. I enjoyed it immensely.

Hmm.. parent-child relationships? that's a toughie. Sekai Chuushin is the only one I can think of (though involves romance too). It's well worth it.

I'd really recommend Beautiful Life though. It beats Crying Out Love in my opinion, mainly because Sekai Chuushin ended with a good note (I liked the movie ending better). But Beautiful Life on the other hand, won me over; that ending script was just too much.

It's a shame that my request for a tearjerker about children seems too specific... Considering that a request for a comedy about romance would net about 100 suggestions...

Perhaps I'll expand on it by including children in any regrettable situation, such as the case in Joou no Kyoushitsu. That one, although very silly, had some pretty profound moments that maybe didn't bring me to tears... But it got me thinking about the situation of children and memories of my own childhood.

So any along this line are good too!

Thanks!

Watch Mukodono...it's a Jem's site... it's about relationship between a rockstar/goofball and the family that he married into.

Long live sakuraba Yuichiro!! <3

Japanese Historical Drama (sword fighting a must)

Post by Father_V » Nov 27th, '05, 16:23

Being in the process of downloading Shinsengumi, I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for other Japanese historical dramas, especially for torrents available on this site. Sword fighting is a must for me, although I understand that historical drama usually only has brief bursts of fighting.

Being a big fan of chambara eiga, I'm anxious to start exploring the tv side of things. Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Rev. Paul L. Vasquez

I've had some luck searching jdorama for "historical drama" and then cross checking versus the torrent search engine on this site.

So far I've found: (post will be edited as I do the checking)

-Shinsengumi (of course. Mentioned in first post)
-Yoshitsune (battlefield commander in Heian era. Don't know how much battle is shown though. Some torrents of this series label it "taiga drama". I checked for this in my japanese dictionary but can't find it. Anyone know this terminology?)
-Musashi (of the famous swordsman. Many episodes do not have any seeds)
-Toshiie to Matsu (warrior and a woman. Only first batch has a seed as of posting)
-Abarenbo Shogun (shogun disguised as commoner. Many seasons. No seeds)

The "taiga drama" is an annual year-long series in Japan on NHK. It runs 49 episodes, and is invariably a historical drama. The oldest drama was, I think, Homura Tatsu, set in the 9th century; they go up to bakumatsu topics like Shinsengumi.

For some obnoxious reason, NHK loves to revisit old themes. In the thirty years of Taiga Dramas, they've had about FOUR retellings of Chushingura (enough, already!) and three or four visits with the Shinsengumi.

They're usually based on a long novel about some historical personage or event, so they're not always TOTALLY historical, but as a rule they tend to be pretty good.

Thanks! Now that I know this, it's much easier to search the other sites for info.
