2013 spring dramas

Post by Geku gaijin » Apr 1st, '13, 15:25

What dramas are you looking forward to in spring 2013?

I think 35 sai no koko sei looks good. I always enjoy the Saturday 9:00 dramas. They are more laid back and funny.

I will watch the new sho sakurai and shingo katori dramas. I really liked monsters and dinner no atode. There was another drama with shingo where he was a love advisor with Mesa kuroke.

I didn't know about Galileo 2. Anything with kou shibasski is good. Iryu Sousa and doubles should be good. I will check them out. I never got into iryu Sousa. I think Japanese people play good villians but police dramas in Japan are hard for me to believe. Take five has an interesting story line. I think Toshiaki Karasawa is a good actor. Thanks for the suggestions Navigator.

Shibasaki Kou is not the female lead anymore in Galileo 2 :(

My list would be:

-Take Five (interesting cause the media labeled it as Japanese Ocean 11, and watching it for Karasawa-san and Goro-chan)
-Kasuka na Kanojo (my #1 in smap)
-Kazoku Game (my #1 in arashi and I like Kutsuna Shiori)
-Kamo, Kyoto e iku (Shiina Kippei!)
-Kumo no Kaidan (based on the novel by Watanabe Jun'ichi, who also wrote Shiroi Kage novel ; had been made to a Korean drama titled "Cloud Stairs" in 2006 ; and I just LOVE HaseHiro since Kaseifu Mita)
-Itazura na Kiss (loved the 96 one)

and some NHK short dramas^^

You never know what dramas are good until you actually start watching, but I'll try out:

Kakushou (I like both Takahashi Katsumi and Eikura Nana and the TBS 8pm slot is usually good.)

Keiji 110kg (A stupid-looking detective comedy. Should be fun.)

Doubles (Another detective show with good actors.)

Minna! ESPer Dayo! (Not the biggest Sometani Shota fan, but this looks like a weird late-night fantasy/supernatural show, so it should be interesting like XXXholic.)

Houkago Groove (Not much info on this out there, but I like TBS's late-night dramas, so I'll check it out.)

The Complex - Prologue (Late-night horror drama.)

Maybe:

Galileo 2
Iryu Sousa 3

All in all, it looks to be a pretty mediocre lineup, but we'll see. Nothing stands out like Yakou Kanransha and Biblia did last season.

Thank you for starting a spring season thread!
I'm not expecting any miracles this time around - after a show like "Saikou no Rikon", that would be asking for a bit much.
I appreciate everyone's previews and I will be following this thread with interest.

I'm looking forward to Galileo 2 the most!
I'm a bit sad that Shibasaki Kou isn't the main female character anymore but I couldn't be any happier that Yoshitaka Yuriko will be her "replacement".

Also looking forward to Kazoku Game. The original movie was interesting in my opinion, so I wonder how they'll change it up. Also, Kamiki fan here. XD

Having said that, I have already started his NHK drama Kogure Shashinkan. It was very good in my opinion. It feels like I'm watching a movie. I hope someone decides to sub it.

35-sai sounds interesting to me as well as Minna! Esper Dayo since it sounds hilarious.

Also, looking forward to Dai ni Gakusho and this spring's asadora, Amachan.

Then I'll look into the others that could potentially be surprising. :lol

I'm really sad that Shibasaki Kou won't be in Galileo 2. Kamo, kyouto e iku has some potential, I like Matsushita Nao and Shiina Kepei. Kumo no Kaidan looks good too. Hiroki Hasegawa was awesome in Mita san. Yanie I agree about Sho he is my favorite from Arashi and I like Shingo but I think KimTak is better. Shingo does really well in funny dramas but I'm not as impressed in serious roles. I am looking forward to Minna Esper Dayo. I like funny dramas.

I expect another mediocre season, but I hope it's wrong.

I'm looking forward Sato Jiro's culinary drama, it's gonna be resembling Solitary Gourmet but less fancy and more hilarious

My impression of spring dramas, so far.

Itazura na Kiss - awesome! love it so much!

Kasuka na Kanojo - good cast, lame/cliche story (students not going to school problems, my goodness... how many hundred times I've seen that in J-dramas?)

Kamo, Kyoto e Iku - Unexpectedly great, so far! I like it! I love Matsushita Nao's arrogant attitude like she know it all... it's quite different than her other roles, and the story is quite original too, at least I never seen any J-drama about trying to change the old ways of ryokan (japanese inn). And I love Kyoto's scenery! And I love the themesong by Shiina Ringo, she rocks!

yes, the last few seasons have not been great, and spring 2013 might be the same.
last season I really like Saikou no Rikon, Shotenin Michiru no Mi no Uebanashi and Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi.

This spring I'll be checking, at least Kasuka na Kanojo, other than this I don't know yet.

Galileo2 had 22% ratings I think. Doubles got 15%. This was furransu old comment though. Just fyi to those reading.

Anybody has seen Doubles yet? How was it?

Totally forgot that they are doing Iryu3 this season -14.6. Or was it a special? The ratings was posted in the other thread.

A little disappointed with Kazoku Game ratings. 12% sounds measley with their hype. It was a bit heavy for a 10pm Wednesday slot I guess..

How's spring 2013 panning out for everyone so far? I wish I could get more excited myself. I've watched a few eps here and there and nothing's clicked so far. :-( Even the vaunted Minna Esper Yo feels like a lengthy advertisement for Tenga products (don't ask).
Oh, well. More time to troll through the oldies.

Hated most of those shows. Anyways one drama that stand out for this season is kazoku game, really.... odd/twisted series. Galileo so far is good still not sure about the new female lead.

Last Cinderella is ok so far but I'm losing my interest fast.. I don't know why.

Kazoku Game is good. Partly it was because I enjoy watching Sakurai Sho but also it has many merits. The ensemble cast is not perfect imo (I dislike the father, akb4 girl and Kutsuna Shiori as the mysterious girl) but the rest are spot on. The script is pretty strong. People have been comparing it to Kaseifu no Mita, not sure if its a good thing. I haven't watched Mita yet.

For myself,
THE SEARCH IS OVER.
It's called Kumo no Kaidan.
That is all. :-)
No, really, I'm far from fluent in Japanese (actually, I suck), but I know a quality production when I *oh so rarely* see one. Everything about this show is easy on the eyes from the acting to production values. The script deserves a special mention because even though this is technically another medical drama, the premise and setting allow for some originality. This is a great-looking show that provides a lovely contrast to some other hack-work productions on offer. No one is obviously paycheque wh*ring here.
Oh, and the male lead is very easy on the eyes, FWIW. (Don't worry, the ladies aren't so bad, either). :D
*Big ups to Akiramike for the hot tip from his awesome blog.*
PS: according to furransu, Heiwa Fansubs will be doing the honours - hooray

Well, I'm back to eat some humble pie. The over-excited post above is a good reason why I should never endorse a dorama after watching a single episode.
However, if you are looking for the dorama equivalent of a Harlequin Romance on drugs, I can still wholeheartedly recommend Kumo no Kaidan. :whistling:
Like, what is up with this spring season? :blink

rootabega: I've embarrassed myself so many times that I try to finish whatever I'm watching/reading before recommending it. After I recommend something, I feel like I have to enjoy it no matter what... :'D

I haven't watched a series while it's been airing since Ninkyo Helper (in 2009!), so for a while I didn't even know where or how to start. I downloaded the first episode of Kazoku Game last night and WOW!

I couldn't pull my eyes away! It was like a train wreck. The first five or ten minutes were so slow that I ended up checking the wiki for something to do, and once I saw the names of the episodes... :'))) I have a feeling I'll like this show.

I've seen that some people are disappointed by ratings, but after a quick search through the wiki, I've realised that all my favourite shows are between the 9%-14% range. :'D;; I think Ninkyo Helper was the only one to go significantly above that. Maybe I have strange tastes, but high ratings don't say or do much for me.

Based on this thread, I think I'll try out Kamo, Kyoto e Iku and 35sai no Koukousei.

By the way, do the dramas that start in May (like May 18th) count as Spring or Summer? I'm looking forward to Specialist, since I liked Kusanagi Tsuyoshi in Ninkyo H.

Kazoku Game. Wow I'm totally hooked. I had low expectations at first since generally, Sho dramas doesn't impress me but this one was definitely different. It's getting darker and more intense in every episode. I really like the confrontation scenes with the tutor and the eldest son. Sho has had little overacting in very few parts but as a whole his performance here is really strong. The family consists of really strong actors (Suzuki Honami, Kamiki Ryunosuke and Uragami Seishuu) so I'm really glad that they are carrying the drama as well.

Kamo, Kyoto e iku I get really annoyed by Kamo. but it's fun to see her struggle and she has an interesting dynamic with Kinugawa. It's really refreshing.

I heard people say good things about SoraTobu so I'm gonna check it out.

Totally gave up on Tokage the first episode was just really bad.

Last Cinderella got the top spot according to the new Oricon rankings:

http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/movie/2024707/full/

I have yet to check it out. Hope it's good, it's on my 'to watch' list.

Those of you who liked the drama version of Arakawa Under the Bridge (a subject matter I'd figured anime will win hands down, with or without Shaft) should check out Houkago Groove.

Iizuka Ken is the screenwriter/director/editor of both and you can see his style stomped all over the production like the Dr. Martens the main cast stomped around in in the drama

So many convincing recs for Kazoku Game...I wish I wasn't so allergic to family doramas.
As can be imagined from my Kumo no Kaidan fiasco, I am hesistant to hype another dorama; however, ep 1 of Haitatsu Saretai Watashitachi was pretty good. I can see the potential for a major fail if
the writers misrepresent the serious illness of depression as something that can be cured with cheesy dorama solutions, i.e. more positive thinking. That would seriously piss me off :cussing: .

Well, tonight's the finale for my beloved Kumo no Kaidan. :P
Can't think of a better way to say,
Goodbye spring 2013 dorama season - hello summer 2013 season!
