@erinitegami how do you know what she looks like?
Anyway, the ending was... argh . Dunoo it left me with an empty feeling.
I hate how they just left Nobuta! I was thinking finally Akira and Nobuta can be alomne together nan noni!
O well, its still a awesome drama. Now Maki Horikita and Yamashita Tomohisa are favourite actress and actor

Yay to the Nobuta wo Produce fandom! It's one of the 1st doramas I've watched starring either Yamapi, Kame or Maki, and I can bet my bottom dollar that they left me a great impression. I watched it way back in 2005 when it was released... And I suddenly have this craving to watch it again. Probably gonna watch it via streaming again later today.
Anyways, if any of you are interested in reading fan-fictions... I came across a link to this one on someone's LJ (can't remember whose, thanks for posting btw!). It takes place right after the ending of NwP. It's a good read: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/47/goodluck.html

Hey yeah, me too... I got to know KAT-TUN from this dorama too. Or rather, I just got to know Kame and KAT-TUN, then I watched this dorama, which made me more of a fan of Kame and his band!risa6chan wrote:i got to know KAT-TUN from this show. love the show it is hilarious.
nobuta POWER!
and the BYE BYE BICYCLE is just so funny hahaha
Akira is super-cute in a sticky way. And Shuuji is really cool and smart. Nobuta is the one that brought the whole threesome together and let the friendship blossom. It's a really good drama... Never fails to make me think over stuff and to laugh (Akira!!!)
I agree with you all though, the ending really leaves you wanting more huh... I was pretty disappointed with the ending myself. But I guess having a Hollywood ending all the time doesn't work either... The ending increases the real touch of the dorama ne?

After playing around with Google Earth for WAY too long, I'm absolutely sure that I've located the place where the three of them hung out a lot. This was supposedly a section of the school roof (but it's actually a different building from the school that they filmed).
Nobuta's hangout
It's the roof with the round dome.
Update:
If you slide the map to the right, you'll see the tiny harbor where Shuji's willow tree was originally located.

Super Amazing
Man you guys are super amazing to have found their school in Google Earth hahah!
Just watched Nobuta wo produce for the first time last week. Immediately went crazy with Horikita Maki. I really loved the show - except the ending where I was so hoping for a happier one.
I know the writers probably want to portray that Nobuta has moved on, from being dependent on Akira and Shuji. But somehow them, talking so distantly about Nobuta makes us think they will never see each others again, or even make us forget the possibility of a phone call!
I also wished there was more romance in the story. However, the story was trying to explore highschool students, and growing up - to the difference between crush and love. Friendship etc. I am reminded of how innocent love is.
Anyway - I was so addicted that I quickly watched HanaKimi too, finished it in one night. And I really enjoyed it. Somehow, I would rank HanaKimi higher than Nobuta - not because it was much better, but just because it fits with my personality. I really enjoyed the comedy, carefree, fun, romantic, happy ending, happy tone type. Nobuta was a tad bit depressing now that I think of it. I really wanted to see the Horikita Maki bubbly bright smile and that energy would just make my day. So I would rank HanaKimi higher.
But seriously - I'm a die hard fan of Horikita Maki now!
NOBUTA POWER ENTER!

I heard that too, but I couldn't find it.paradox wrote:wasn't the school from nobuta actually a JAL training site?
Actually, I found a few more Nobuta locations:
Nobuta Guided tour
(Click on "satellite" to see the places themselves)

more drama filming locations in that thread as well
Aah, I can see that there are some people like me who are not really satisfied with the ending while the whole serie is so damn good.
When the end arrived, I was like "hum... that's it ? Must be kidding there..." I looked at the time bar and it WAS the end. I was thinking a SP was going to be done for the reunion at university or something like that but no.
Despite this disappointment, I love this drama and specially Akira and his "♥Kon Kon♥" ! lol

wow, is that so?charia-chan wrote:Well, the novel is different from the dorama in many points
i really had no idea that these much changes was done to origial
but i kind of liking the way the drama was. i have to say that NWP is one of my most fav drama EVER. everything in that drama is perfect. from acting, to steup, other characters, OST, ....it is one of the best.
i loved both shuji and akira but i thought akira was more adorable. i actually don't think that would have been a good drama if they decided to stick to original story. all those changes was done for the best.
Can you guys tell me what kon-kon, or just kon, with the hand signal, means?
I've seen this gesture being used in another drama, Haken no Hinkaku, when a character (whose name is Kon) showed up and made the same gesture that Akira made and said "Kon".
Is this just a reference to the kon-kon from Akira's character on NWP?
Or is there a significance to this gesture and saying kon-kon or kon?

To be cute i guess? That's their main job. Also it could be a dog. But i think they go wan wan but who knows, maybe dogs can bark in many ways in japan. Also it could be a sound a rabbit makes, doesn't make sense but hey it's japan

The hand gesture is what the Japanese people use to indicate a fox..outcast_within wrote:To be cute i guess? That's their main job. Also it could be a dog. But yes, other than being cute, I have no idea what kon or kon-kon means
I just had to vote 5/5. I love Nobuta wo Produce so much...it made me realize how I'm so much like Shuji, treating life as if it's just a game. I love how his character develops and you begin to see the type of person he really is.
I also love the 3 actors/actress in it. They did such a great job and looked so adorable!! (:

I wouldn't call this drama life-altering. (Nor would I call any drama/movie life-altering, for that matter. I mean, it's just entertainment, ne? Even the best ones out there. )
But life-defining? Hellyeahhhh. Few stories out there can capture that season in our lives (adolescence, high school, growing up) as well as NwP does. I love this drama to the ends of the earth. (See, I can't even find an emoticon that can adequately express all that I feel for NwP. lol)

@EnderYou're not kidding about being long o_O, that is not a review, it's more of an analysis . I love reading analysis of things I love but sorry, I gave up after 20 paragraphs. I'll read it after my exams. Thanks for writing it though, after watching Nobuta wo Produce, I fell in love with the 3 characters and sincerely touched by their friendship. The ending gives me a sense of emptiness and that thesis of yours sort of helped get closure.
Also don't slag kurosagi T_T, it's not great but it's the drama that made me notice the holy awesomeness(wait what?) of Horikita Maki.

@ PensukeD LOL... I know my reviews have been likened to "term papers" before, but this is the first time someone's actually called one a "thesis." That's like, taking it to the next level, yo! But I do appreciate your honesty, it's actually very sweet.
Wow, 20 whole paragraphs, huh? Most people don't even last more than six! (Still, I see you stayed long enough to read my thoughts on Kurosagi, heh heh. ) And you needn't worry about having to come back after your exams to finish my posts. This isn't school and my reviews aren't required reading, y'know. They're for anyone who's in the mood for something more in-depth than a quickie review, and has enough time to spare.
And good luck on your exams. (I see you're from Ireland, so... "Adh mór ort." )

Unfortunately, I'm one of the rare few who realised Irish isn't their cup of tea before entering secondary school and got an exemption in it so I don't have a clue what you just said . The only thing that is motivating me to do the little study I'm doing now is so I have a less guilty conscience in the summer when I watch Jdrama.
Anyway, I got sick of studying Geography so I went to "study" english by finish reading your review. Only to give up and skimmed thorugh the random paragraphs and read the comments. I noticed that there's a lot of interesting questions and points raised nonetheless
Seriously, if I can talk to staff members who made NWP, I would ask what is the ending sequence about. I wish my printer is working so I can print out your review >_<. This is one piece of literature that I wouldn't mind annotating. (by the time I've reached this far in the post, I have forgot most of the points I want to discuss).
Also, like one of the commenters, I too hate tomohisa's character in ProDai and end up fast forwarding half the series. However, my lack of patience for it might be caused by the fact that it was cantonese dubbed. (I should've learned my lesson after watching Bloody Monday with Cantonese) I might watch the SP later in the summer
Ah well, I got to go now. Sadly, this Laptop is also our family's sole provider of entertainment and it needs to be connected to the TV so my mom can watch Korean drama now. Looking forward to finish reading your review properly.

@ cercado - Heyyy thanks! That's v. encouraging to hear.
@ PensukeD - Sorry, but I thought everyone in Ireland spoke the Olde Language, lol. Anyway, that line also means "good luck" (accdg. to Yahoo Answers).
(Cantonese dubbed??? Egads! No wonder ProDai left a bad taste in your mouth...)
Well, I'll leave you to ace those tests so you may enjoy a guilt-free dorama-packed summer...

Ender's Girl: I just read your two-part review of NwP. God you articulated my own personal reasons for loving this show so well! I can't believe how deep you were able to analyze the parts of the show, things that I hadn't even considered. It was a very enlightening read! I really enjoyed it!Ender's Girl wrote:@ cercado - Heyyy thanks! That's v. encouraging to hear.

Something's so timeless about this show. Every time I watch it something rings true in my heart (pardon the cheesiness).
In part two, in your top few Shuji/Akira/Nobuta moments, you should've tagged onto the end of "Call me Akira" the tender moment when Nobuta calls Akira by his first name gently when he wanted to tell Shuji and Nobuta about the photo of Nobuta and Shuji hugging. That was so sweet! Haha you may disagree though.
Anyways, awesome analysis of the show, I wish I could've written about the show like you did. Hats off!!
