For a 2hr sp, the pacing was surprisingly good with so a couple of things happening at the same time yet interlinked together. Given that season 2 is an orginal script with no manga storyline line to fall back on, i must admit to being terribly impressed.

One thing that's been on my mind though.... has our all sugoii Ryutaro ever failed in an op? I can't remember much of season 1 now and never read the manga before. Would be really interesting
if they can pull off 2 seasons full with him so god-like.
asada did fail once in season 1 episode 7
i forgot the operation, but the patient died

I went back to review ep7 a bit. It wasn't really his fault though for the patient's death. The doctor misdiagnosed the patient. He was just going by the diagnosis to operate. hm...I think him and Kirima were operating and there were unexpected problems. Kirima didn't know what was the problem but Asada found the problem and fixed it. I think the operation at the end was successful? but the patient didn't survive the operation. Kirima got jealous cuz he knew he would never be as good as Asada, so he pinned the mis diagnosis on Asada to get him fired.

they're not subs. They're direct download links for those who can't use clubbox or torrents. It's the avi file. You need to download all the files and join them to extract the avi file.

@seirin & indokid, thanks for the information on season 1. Oh, so technically, our hero is still god-like invincible. Wow, heightens my desire to watch the remaining episodes, really interested to know if they would introduce any small setbacks for him.

seems epsiode 2 is out already. The plot seems rather confusing with the running back and forth between the two hospitals O_o Noguchi sensei seems to be using Asada to revive Meishin hospital and Hokuyou hospital seems to be like a stepping stone?
But then Team dragon seems to be moving to Hokuyou hospital...weird. I wonder what the writers are planning...

Yes Noguchi is using Asada to reestablish Meishin as a force to be reckoned with in the medical field but I'm not really sure how Hokuyou benefits from the deal besides cash inflows from Meishin.
Maybe the team enraged Noguchi who then decided to banish them there since their views on the treatment of patients often differ.

@ Seirin: Asada was key to Noguchi's plan to revive Meishin. However, later on in the episode, in Kataoka's conversation with Noguchi when he gave her the list of doctors he was preparing to send to Hokuyo,
she called Asada a potential liability and planted the idea in Noguchi's head that he didn't have to risk the possibilty of Asada defying his will if they could find someone even more prominent than him. Then there's a short sequence of her approaching someone in New York whom I believe to be none other than Kitou Shoko, former head of Meishin's ER.

Thus when Asada went against Noguchi for the patient Nishizawa, Noguchi took action to banish him because Kataoka had found Kitou to replace Asada.

But while Noguchi is cunning, Kataoka seems more calculative and cold blooded. I suppose Asada will lose a patient in Ep 3 due to the incompetence of the surgical team at Hokuyo. There was some talk of a potential suit for medical malpractice in the trailer.

@raven_frost,

If the new hire
to replace Asada is indeed Kitou Shoko. Isn't it a bit weird? I know she appears in the previews and all. Reason being the critical contributing factor of Noguchi's masterplan for Meishin lies in Meishin being confirmed by the authorities as the 7th transplant center in Japan. He needed Asada's skills and knowledge as a cardic specialist to spearheard the transplant operations scheduled. Kitou sensai is a great surgeon but she's no cardic specialist. Shouldn't the new hire be someone who is also a heart surgeon, someone similar to the likes of Kirishima sensai.

I didn't expect the Meishin team vs Hokuyou team scenario to happen. Looks like things are going to be very interesting going forward.

I thought the same thing too but maybe
Kitou Shoko's appointment isn't such a long stretch because in ep 1 Asada mentions that she is an expert in heart surgeries for newborns so she might have experience in transplants too. Her reputation is as established as Asada's too although I really wonder whether she really allowed herself to be bought over by money. Doesn't that seem totally contrary to what she seemed to represent in Iryu 1? I don't think Kirishima would have agreed if approached.

Things are certainly going to be interesting. Trouble is brewing ... ...

It turns out that the new hire is indeed Kitou Shoko. At least that's what the synopsis of the trailer says. I guess they'll elaborate on the reasons why they courted her and why she decided to be bought over to their side. Hardly seem like likely bed partners.

Just watched ep 3.

About Kitou's defection...
I think it's a bit strange how she's become a "villain", but at the same time its somewhat understandable. As Fujiyoshi puts it, she's a "realist". Her exchange with Asada on the roof really sums it up - while she's sympathetic, she thinks he's wasting his skills at the branch hospital. She supports Noguchi's goal, while she thinks Asada is just being idealistic. She prioritizes saving more lives, rather than just "saving the people before your eyes" like Asada does.

Her sudden transformation into a villain though is kind of strange - especially her exchange with Arase at the end where she almost comes off as evil when she talks about how Asada is finished with almost glee. She even brings back her line, "If there is a zero in the team, everything becomes zero." referring to Asada's new team members.

Of course... Arase's reply was freakin' awesome. "She's more like a minus than a zero... but if you combine minus's, they become a plus. A huge plus."
About the episode in general...
So apparently Nene Otsuka's character Nanami Kodaka is a genius anesthesiologist too, who became disillusioned like Arase did. I think its kinda cliche that they're doing the same type of story again for the new anethesiologist...

It's also kind of predictable that despite all their personality quirks, it seems like all of Asada's new team members are going to turn out to be extremely skilled.

My favorite scene was when Fujiyoshi returned the money... that was awesome. First time in a long time that I actually shouted "HELL YEAH" out loud while watching something.

yeah ep3 is great
i was very touched when the old couple was holding each other up the stairs

and arase's line of "minus minus equals big plus" seems to imply kotoka nanami, and possibly the other quirky members of the new team seems to be on the same level as their counterparts in the old team

as for the whole season in general, this season seems to lack a end-goal for asada and his teams. imo, the storyline sofar is not as gripping as the first season. the thing on asada being a super rebel doc and succesfully completing impossible surgery scenes is getting old. but it's still watchable overall, as i'm a big fan of iryu s1

I actually somewhat prefer that. s1 was a bit predictable in that regard - you knew that the solution would resolve itself in the end with Asada completing the Batista thesis for Katou. This season however is entirely new material and original... ie you have no idea what's going to happen. This episode for instance...
I actually thought they might go the route of a medical malpractice suit against Noguchi. That would have been a rather unexpected twist to the series, and lead it in an entirely new direction. They ended up not doing so, but still... I prefer the series being rather unpredictable and not having a clear cut goal line.

I;m so glad more people are watching this series. It's a bit sad when you see this series has 12 pages of posting compared to other 40s or hundreds ...............

But then, this series has so many shocking details ........ so I guess we have to watch out what will happened.

I enjoyed watching Ep 3 and I derived great satisfaction watching Fujiyoshi's exchange with Kataoka. Way to go! :thumleft: And Arase's reaction to Kitou too was just stunning. I'm still trying to reconcile Abe Sadayo as the affable Masaru in First Kiss and the indifferent, irreverent Arase here. He's one of my favourite characters.

Like you said, I think there will be parallels in the new characters but this sequel throws up questions like ethics. As a doctor, would you and should you turn down a patient now for the greater good of future patients?
It had such a hollow ring when I heard Kitou say that. I wonder if she truly believed what she said.

That's what Meishin is doing now. Choosing it's patients to further its vision. But ultimately, the underlying goal of all those in the hospital's management is money not patients.

But things are different now. The team isn't going to be the same as you will see when you watch the drama so Inamori Izumi's presence isn't exactly necessary.

Kitamura Kazuki's in the drama but seems to be a minor character unlike in season 1. He's only appeared in Ep1 so far. Doesn't seem like he'll make a reappearance soon. At least not in the upcoming Ep4.

Geez Noguchi is a guy I love to hate. Almost midway through Ep 4, I was thinking that they'd actually do something like that but it ended up that the patient granted his wish for him. I do think that Kataoka has still a wee bit of humanity in her than Noguchi. Ep 4 was kind of unsatisfying since the outcome of the patient's surgery will only be known next week.

Can't wait for next Thurs!

Iryu 1 was to focus on Batista... But Iryu 2 also focus on other difficult cardiac operation...

so the situation are totally change now????well this kinda sound very interesting and fresh storyline :D so that is why they dont need Inamori Izumi in the storyline...but i thought Kazuki character in Galileo is really small that he might have bigger role here...guess im wrong :P eventhough there would be so many changes i would still follow this drama coz i really luv the storyline and the whole casts nd this is one of the best drama beside Unfair :D im so glad the rating is still very good

B.O.N is subbing this drama. You can check the status for subs here:

It's hard to decide whether season 1 or 2 is better since the season is only just approaching the midway mark. Season 2 differs from 1 because it's no longer based on the manga and it explores broader issues. And the depiction has so far been satisfying.

There's also greater character development. Asada is made more human here. Where he tended to be aloof and inexpressive in season 1, he's displayed more kindness and compassion this season. Surprisingly, Kihara is a regular fixture in each episode. I was expecting him to be an apple polisher like in the last season but is seems that he doesn't have any love for Noguchi too.

The prospective new team members all seem to have character flaws that impair their work. That's only slowly started to unfold so will just have to keep watching to see how they string the story along.

Hey all, first I'd like to thank the raw uploaders and B.O.N. for their efforts in sharing this awesome series.

Now, I've been following up on the progress reports by B.O.N. fansubs and I was wondering how come the 2nd episode is close to being done whereas the 1st one isn't? Did something happen to the 1st episode that's causing it to fall behind?

Sorry if what I said came out as a complaint. I'm just merely curious. :)

i think it because the first episode was 2 hour long and 2nd episode merely 40 minutes...translation takes ages...might be because of that...

I'm also still waiting for the subs^^", since it's "iryu". lol, i mean, if it was hana kimi or something like that i won't have much trouble understanding it. but in Iryu they sometimes use the "medical language," which is obviously impossible for me to understand XD. and i really appreciate the subbers' efforts in subbing. this drama is probably harder to sub, compared to other dramas. i even find the some words difficult since they're not the everyday vocab.

Yeah the surgical scenes in Ep1 was ran for about half and hour. More than double the usual in an episode so it probably makes translation more challenging with all the medical terms and surgical instruments involved.

I wonder whether Ep5 will be a turning point of sorts for the future of the team and Hokuyou.

I've only watched Iryu I episode 1 - sort of anyway. Now Iryu II is out. it sounds like a good drama to watch. Something not teeny-bopper too. I've watched too many of that.
My friend "advertises" this drama to me, heh. xD so many dramas that I want to watch, but no time to watch 'em all. :-(

Does anyone know of a place with episode summaries of Iryu 2? I'm currently watching the Chinese subbed version, but I'm a little slow when it comes to reading and I don't know all of the characters, I get the basic plot, but I was hoping there was a summary somewhere that could fill in what I might've missed. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you're looking for a very detailed one but you can check out soompi:

Hi,

Does anyone know if Iryu Season 1 (Divx version) is currently available on anybody's clubbox?

Many thanks. Started with Season 2 and now need to backtrack to Season 1 to understand the whole series properly.

You can try watching it on crunchyroll.com, no need to download and the whole season 1 is up already.

It's still in the translation process.

I would love to see more of Arase, he's my favourite character.

It seems Arase and Asada
re-team up for surgery in Ep 7?
One thing I would love to see is Noguchi getting the same kind of treatment he's currently doling out.

Any news on Kirishima and whether he appears later on? I'm already done with the 5th episode.[/spoiler]

probably no.. seems to me kirishima is a guest star for ep1 only
they don't even have enough screen time for the old team members :blink

If Kirishima does make an appearance, it'll probably be the last episode or so.

I totally agree that they don't have enough screen time for the old team members. Just enough to put in a brief scene that usually has them brooding or lamenting over the situation they're in. Maybe they should reduce the scenes with Kihara.

Arase is back! :D Even if it was only for this episode, I surely had a great smile on my face when he appeared
as the doors of the operating theatre opened and cocked his head to one side in usual fashion. And he became a daddy (but was so bashful about it :lol ).
Things are actually getting more interesting just when I was thinking ep 5 and 6 were just rather average.

the story is getting too predictable
i can almost guess the next few episodes
meishin throws another hopeless case patient to asada's hospital

asada defied all odds and saves him, with kodaka joining in the mid of operation and joins team after the op

in between scenes, miki&arase will make a 3 minute appearance talking how doomed the situation is.. kitou appears for 1 min, acting like a villian

kihara will visit ijyuin, eating blue ice-cream, cracking jokes and acts like an idiot

noguchi/kataoka discussing more uninteresting hospital politics

and the cycle continues on..

eventually, the new team is formed, they perform a big operation successfully and asada will be the first to leave the team again to move on to another hospital

I agree that it's predictable but I still enjoy the drama. There are bound to be some changes to that cycle though. No doubt Kihara's scenes are pretty useless fillers. And the Arase and Miki scenes come across as rather half-hearted attempts to try to include them in the developments. I would certainly like to see Asada made vulnerable ... but I don't think that factors into the script.

Is there any drama or movie that is not predictable...well at least for me there isnt. Season 1 was the same, or did for example anyone expect that baby to die in the last episode? :roll

man...just finished watching the first season (kind of late...) its sooo gooood T^T...i think i am going to wait till 2nd season finish before start watching it.. :T

anyways, anyone heard the whole OST of the first season? There is a song in there called "spirit" and everytime I listen to it, it sounds like its been extracted from a song that has lyrics...especially the part that picks up after a small pause near the beginning of the song...does anyone know what I am referring to or am I just going too crazy with the OST? :X

Yup the OST was released on 28 Nov.

And the softsubs have been released too! Thank you B.O.N!
Now that Kataoka has been spurned by Noguchi, I wonder whether she'll turn around and team up with Asada and the rest. It would seem that the scriptwriters have set that up.

And I guess Noguchi and Zenda are contemporaries given that kind of oblique reference made near the end of Ep 7.

Yeah I totally agree. Ep8 was very moving. It's the story I like best out of the four and one of my favourite episodes in Iryu 2.

Noguchi
instead of relying on his team of top specialists decides to go to Hokuyou to beg the hospital director in the preview of Ep9. Hah. That reveals a lot about the trust he has for his hospital's doctors.

I am at episode 4 for season 2, its interesting how these characters are. Want to know what's Asada real reason for starting a new team, I think there is more to it. Season 1 inspired me to watch season 2, it was great.

Noguchi...
He ended up being shunted off to Thailand in season1.
Now I wonder how he will end up in season2.
I'm 99% sure he will be saved by Asada...what will Noguchi think then.
Will he change and be a nice person? Meishin and Hokuyou can be a reall good pertner?
Will he be shunted off to the north pole or somewhere?

I want to see the team dragon more  maybe next week?

inamori izumi had an argument with the directors/writers, that's why she got left out in the cast at first place

They just said she left to work overseas. Actually everyone big went overseas like Kirima Gunji, Asada, Kitou Shoko and Katou Akira. Asada and Kitou Shoko came back. Kirima came back for 1 episode.
