I love this serie I already watched many times and never get boring. Both Nodame and Chiaki are two of the best characters I ever seen so original and of course is thanks to the actors who given they personal feeling. Hope the special have the same heart because thats the way I liked Nodame wear as always and Chiaki cool and good looking.

I already have a feeling I won't like the SP... In fact, I think I hated almost all scenes I've seen with Asian actors outside Asia (unless there are more foreign actors casted than Asian).

There are always so much stereotypes and exaggerations when they're in foreign countries, not to mention that somehow those supposedly native American/English characters are usually all blonde or black, 6ft or taller, and speaks Engrish, and REALLY bad at acting. I'm pretty sure it's just as bad with other languages too.

Yow, aren't you sorta quick to pre-judge the Special?

If you start watching with a negative attitude or overly high expectations, then there's almost no way you're gonna like it.

Either don't watch it and avoid the disappointment or watch it with a clear mind... :)

From tokyogrpah:
Wentz, Becky to play foreigners in "Nodame" special
Sun, November 11, 2007 (3:47pm EST)
Eiji Wentz and Becky have been cast in Fuji TV's upcoming "Nodame Cantabile" drama special, set to air for two nights at the start of 2008.

Tentatively titled "Nodame Cantabile Shinshun Special," the drama continues with the original story of the manga, following Nodame (Juri Ueno) and Chiaki (Hiroshi Tamaki) as they pursue their studies in Europe.

Wentz, whose father is German-American and mother is Japanese, will play the character of Frank, a French student who is also an anime otaku. Meanwhile, the British-Japanese Becky will be donning a blond wig to play the part of the Russian student Tanya.

Fuji TV has not yet announced specific broadcast dates for the drama.

I choose to keep the faith... I think the special will be sweet (innocent until proven the contrary as they say).
Besides, the nodame cantabile story is great, j-drama or not.

Yeah, I always try to watch series with an open mind.

It's impossible for me to get rid of negative attitudes about actors and story etc though...
But I have been pleasantly surprised by many series. Nodame Cantabile is in fact one of those series. I expected absolutely nothing from it because it was another series based on a manga, but one that I actually liked a lot.

Hoping it will surprise me again, although not expecting much at the moment.

Actress Yu Yamada has been revealed as part of the cast of the upcoming "Nodame Cantabile" drama special, scheduled to air on January 4-5 on Fuji TV.

Yamada plays Son Rui, a Chinese prodigy who becomes rivals with Nodame. Although Yamada had no prior experience in playing piano, she recently took lessons and practiced on her own at home before the performance scenes were filmed.

I have a question. Is the special (jan is not coming fast enough) from the manga? Or is it just created just for tv? Also I looked around the web and could not find my answer, how faithful to the manga is the show. I really really really love the show (women and music melt my heart  , just like swing girls  and chicago), but I wonder are the people who are reading the manga thinking it sucks because its nothing like the source material.

(I ask because resident evil appalled me, because it was just making up stuff left and right!)

I read the manga, and from what I've seen of the clips available,so far so good, the SP is definitely based on the manga, although they might changed some of the plot here and there. So yeah,I'm so excited to watch all the amazing scenes that I've read and imagined in my head to come to life beautifully in the SP.And I have faith that the director will be able to do so as well. :)

Yes, as what I said on my post in this thread on Sept 2nd, I am going to sub Nodame SP (softsubs).
Thank you to Joeboygo for reconfirming it again on my behalf here.
I have also announced it on my site when the news about the SP was out.

This is the schedule according to the The Television magazine I just bought today:
Jan 4th: 9:00 - 11.22 PM (almost 2 and a half hours)
Jan 5th: 9:00 - 11.30 PM (exactly 2 and a half hours)

I will work on them as soon as I can get the RAW and timings, and will upload the softsubs here and on my site too.

BTW, I still have a whole bunch of Nodame official goods I need to give away. I am not sure how to do it though...maybe I will make a very simple quiz or contest. I am not sure what I still have, i need to dig again into my stuff....But I remember I still have the SP goods that came with the limited editions of the DVD and CD Boxes. I also have a new Rising Star's Miki Kiyora T-shirt. I will make a list later on my site of all the Nodame things I want to give. (they are all new and still in their plastic wraps of boxes.)
Also, thtl will have a contest with the Nodame Bag as a prize, which will be held on my site. Please check out later on my site. Not sure if I will have a Nodame Bag contest of my own....but I plan to go to Fuji TV shop at Odaiba this Sunday the 23rd, and I don't know yet what I can get from there. If any of you here want something, please tell me, I will get them on Sunday.

Thanks a lot for all your supports.

PS: for all Tamaki Hiroshi fans, just want to inform you that I am going to sub (softs) Tamaki Hiroshi's dorama next season with Ayase Haruka since I saw that no group is going to sub it yet. The title is Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi or The Fantastic Deer-Man, a fantasy and a comedy. Fuji TV Thursdays 10 PM. I hope it's good.

Based on scenes in the preview, I can say it covers at least as far as v. 15 of the manga. And the end of that vol. would make for a pretty clean and satifying ending. Two other things I hope are in the special are

1. How Nodame finally manages to learn French.

and 2:
When Nodame kicks Chiaki in the ass.

hey for anyone who cares i just watched the first half of the special that was on today
it was great!!!
this is the first time i dont mind watching wentz
all the old characters still have their wonderful personalities
chiaki is still as awsome as ever and nodame is...well...nodame ^_^
can't wait for the second half tomorrow
(and her way of learning frnch was great)

OMG! Last night's Nodame was hillarious!! Becky was great, I think her french was good! Wentz' acting is so-so okay, his french is horrible...lol! but still, everyone are great!!

I'm esp. interested in the actor who acted as Jean... who is he? He's a real European? Has good japanese, and not bad acting too.
I love to see how Chiaki cares alot more about Nodame now^^ He really accepts her existence now, like how he asked her to stay over at his hotel room for the night (though still, he didn't let Nodame get away that easy, lol!). And the way he found out Nodame is a D !!! is just....hillarious!!! lol, lol!

I was wishing for more Kiyora, I like her alot... but apparently she's in Wien ne =(
Can't wait for tonight's episode!!

Oh, btw Ueno Juri and Tamaki Hiroshi appeared live in Morning Mezamashi yesterday, 4 January. It's cute how in the beginning Ueno Juri was in Nodame-mode, she said to Tamaki, "Chiaki-senpai, I can't believe it, we're here live in Mezamashi!!". haha^^
While talking about the drama filming, they showed some behind the scenes clips. Like how Tamaki throw the Nodame-look alike human size doll, on the scene where Chiaki has to throw Nodame away^^
I really don't know whether Juri is still carried away by Nodame's role, or her real personality really resembles Nodame, but even when she's not acting as Nodame, and just being herself... she acts alot like Nodame!! xD
