Main guests: ranks IMO

Ep 1: Karasawa Toshiaki (A), Kobayashi Susumu (C), many, many, many C/D-ranks
Ep 2: Koichi Mantarou (C), Abukawa Mihoko (C), Imai Yuuki (D), Ishii Masanori (C), Ebisu Yoshikazu (C)
Ep 3: Hirosue Ryouko (B), Koumoto Masahiro (C)
Ep 4: Katori Shingo (A), Aoi Sora (D) [seems to be A-rank porn star]
Ep 5: Okamoto Koutarou (?) [seems like a NHK actor, no one argues he's C or lower in 2ch], Mizuno Miki (C), Ougo Suzuka (C)
Ep 6: Horikita Maki (B) [According to some TV magazine, not 100% confirmed as guest yet]

Eguchi Yousuke would be cool!!! :w00t: I hope he's in it. Crossing fingers ^^;

thanks raven_frost and 8thSin for listing the people. I guess a lot of these actor/actress are older, so I dunno any of them.

I finished episode 3. Yukawa-sensei is caring for Utsumi. How cute... He was doing it for her and he actually cared about what happened for once. Too cute....
For next episode... perhaps he will get jealous of the new smart guy. hehe.. .

It's a sad day when Mizuno Miki is put into the same rank as Kobayashi Susumu. She's still gotta be at least on the B-list right....right?? :lol

Anyways I'm enjoying this show, it seems to work best when the mysteries help flesh out the culprits character after being solved as in eps1 and 3. Thanks for subbing btw 8thsin!

You should watch emergency ward. Eguchi Yousuke was really good as a doctor there.

I just finished watching ep 3 and the ending was so sad. Her crying was just so so sad.

Btw, does Shibasaki Kou remind anyone a little of Emily Procter from CSI: Miami. Just in the face sometimes.

That's true, but then Mizuno Miki wouldn't be in the same ranks as Horikita or Hirosue now... She hasn't been that active lately, and hasn't exactly had a hit series with her as the lead.

I guess there should be a D-rank there :lol

Just saw ep5, Oogo Suzuka's presence was incredible. Every scene with her felt like watching Sexy Voice and Robo (although this is not necessary a good thing...)

Overall, it wasn't that good episode compared to Ep4. You can tell that entire staff, from screenwriter to camera crew, really put in extra effort in that episode because of having Katori as a guest. I think I personally put in more effort in translating as well, unconsciously :lol
SMAP fans should definitely check out that episode tomorrow :thumright:

EDIT: One of Ep 7 guest seems to be Fukakyon: Fukada Kyouko. Not exactly A-rank... Maybe one of the suspects?
Ep 7 is said to have...
- Late 20s actress as murder victim (Fukakyon?)
- 30s actor --> Suspect 1
- Late 20s actor --> Suspect 2

Where's the love for Galileo? (No hatred towards Yukan Club, but I think this serie is much better. I also watch Yukan Club and I like it, but this serie makes me much more excited. And Galileo only has 6 pages!!)
I really love the detective stuff in it, and I feel really smart when I guess things right ;p... I really love the acting of Shibasaki and the guy who plays Galileo (sorry right at this moment I can't remember his name <,<), it's much more natural than a lot of drama's! And I like how Shibasaki isn't playing the typical "cute girl" or anything of that sort, but a cool and tough woman! (though I'm sure she has a weak spot for Galileo :D) I was hooked from the first episode.. getting the fourth right now!

^ When did she ever play a cute role? XD

She's very well known for "Tsundere" roles, very hostile at beginning, then ends up chasing the guy. Basically same in Galileo, it seems :lol

haha I have seen pretty much everything she has starred in and I can safely say that this is the closest thing she's ever had to a "cute" role. Even the ED song is bordering on idol jpop :whistling:

I wonder if Shingo got paid extra just for that shower scene in ep4 *cough*

Well.. I just mean roles of women in general (it's why I like Tsukushi's character in Hanadan, especially in the beginning)... I don't know Shibasaki that well, though I've been wanting to see Orange Days. This is actually the first drama I've seen her in :). Sorry for misunderstanding! I've just seen the fourth ep and I loved it again! That Shingo guy was really scary. I guess his butt looks good though :D. Next ep seems interesting, I know that student from 1 litre of tears, she doesn't seem to have many lines here though (she didn't in 1 litre as well).

Well, I think it's harder to discuss Galileo without having people kill you for spoiling ^^; This is one of those dramas if you spoil, it will ruin the whole episode. The best part is how the case gets solved. But you can't discuss about it without disclosing what happened. I'm off to watch ep4 tonight ^^; thanks to the subbers~~ I am dying of curiosity who will guest in the last episode and movie ^^; Ep3 had me freaked out. I almost thought there was a ghost. ops hope that doesn't spoil anything...

This series has been okay so far. I don't find the male and female lead that interesting or see a lot of chemistry b/w them, so that's probably why I'm not that excited about the show. I usually love mystery-comedies, but this isn't really clicking with me. Maybe because I'm overwhelmed by the awesomeness of Mop Girl.

Also, the naked butt shot of that guy was like...ew. He's not hot enough to warrant nudity :P

Does anyone else find Yukawa's hand-on-face scene lame? :whistling: I know it's his trademark but it seems unnatural like that and it seems to be getting older and lamer with each passing episode...

Yeah, I guess it's kind of lame, but it works as one of those Densha Otoko-ish "KITAAAAAA" moment.

Conclusion-per-episode series tend to all have some kind of prop like that.

Whenever I see the scenes when Yukawa gets an idea and the crucial clues are being replayed in his head (ending with that hand-on-fance gesture which makes so much more sense when he actually wears his glasses :whistling: ) I have to think of the American TV-Show Numb3rs. They had something just like this.

Btw, can someone explain to me why Utsumi didn't get harmed in ep 4? (sorry if this spoilt it for some!! I just really wanna know!) by all means, she should have been dead! Not that I don't like her, but hey.

I like the Yukawa/Utsumi quarreling stuff, but are they gonna turn that into a romance between them? There have been signs of this, but I'd think that a bit unfitting.

If that would be the case it would be a bit lame because you saw the shot travelling down the water and it's not really possible to "miss" if it was ultrasound...
Oh well, I was being geeky and tried to find the realism in the series, my oh my, I should've known better *lol* I still think it's getting better with each episode.

I don't think that was the ultrasound, it looked like he was startled and moved his hand causing the bubbles. Or he could've missed?

Sakuya from Genvid??
I thought it was all a setup and that that dude was meant to get caught by the police and confess so the bad guy would get off. Now that I think about it, it's starting not to make sense to me...

Yeah, nice to see you here!
It was really a surprise for me to see that the person doing the killing was not Tagami but a lackey. Maybe I'm just dense but I totally expected Tagami to do it. But it was so wrong for Yukawa to give him all the right answers. Was he helping him? I know in normal circumstances, that person would take the paper and go off becoming rich from it. So why did Tagami confess on his own? That's just strange. :| I mean he doesn't seem to be the type to know what he's doing is wrong...

As he pushed the button to realease the ultrasound he was startled by the police so puller the thing out of the water which ment she didnt get hit by it, the bubble were him suddenly pulling it out of the water.
I think the reason he confessed was not because he thought he was wrong but because as the professor said his system was a faliure. For someone who was so self-confident to be brought down like that can cause a bit of a mental brakdown

Hmm... from the flow of the drama. I find the plot for the drama a bit weak. The science is the most interesting part. I wonder if the US sitcoms are like this too. Maybe there's not enough time for plot development for each case? The shower scene was kinda unnecessary I thought. Just eye candy for some I guess but it wasn't funny nor help the plot in any way. It kind of reminded me of Korean dramas actually ^^; Where there's always a shower scene somewhere in a drama.

That female detective sure doesn't seem to act professional? What happened to keeping your cases private? She goes around telling people what she knows...

As for Tagami, I think he knew Yukawa was onto him so he got a lackey to do the job. But what I don't understand is why he didn't cancel his plans since he knew the cops would show up. As for Yukawa giving Tagami the right answers, I think it was to break Tagami's ego thinking he is smart. Yukawa wanted to let him know he wasted 5 years of his life to develop something that was incomplete and that it only took him (Yukawa) within a day to perfect it.

Ahh I think they didn't show it, but Tagami probably got charged as a serial murderer cuz the lackey would point him out. Even if Tagami has the perfected killer weapon, he wouldn't be able to make use of it. One thing I find odd is...which arms country would use such a method to kill people O_o You need close proximity and water... He would be better off developing bombs instead.

Yeah, me! At first I was all "OMG they stole it!" but since Galileo is based on books that came out before numb3rs that's hardly a valid point. Well, numb3rs has a mathematician and a physician but the methods of solving a case are still pretty similar even though Yukawa is basically alone shouldn't know about everything no matter how clever he is... He kinda seems to do, though.
That sequence that happens when Yukawa has an idea and they show all these pictures inside his head is so stolen from numb3rs, though.
I'm SURE of that.

Katori Shingo is an A-Rank celeb after all, he has a lot of fans who were happy about the eye-candy, as unnecessary as it was^^ Plus, word is he's had his arse insured, I wanted to know what the fuss is about tbh :D

I've got two theories about this: One isthat he probably wanted to impress people with his self-invented weapon, so maybe someone would hire him on the basis of that, so that he could build different and bigger stuff in the future, or he hoped to be able to build an enhanched version of it while working for military forces, one that would work without the close range or something. After all, it would have been a kinda cool tool for any assiasin - killing without leaving a trace.

what? Shibasaki in Orange Days? I didn't realize that it's her!! O.O
OMG

And yeah, the plot is a bit weak, but it's very entertaining, and the most important point is : everyone there really can act!
and I haven't see any drama with a very strong plot anyway.

Yukawa's hand-on-face scene must be fanservice XD
he looks great XD XD XD
this is the first time I thought someone on his age is handsome

and actually this is the first drama that I watch without any skip.
this dorama just excite me a lot!

Not sure if it's a useful cool toy though cuz the assassin would need to make sure their target is in or near water. Anyhow it leaves a trace. It took him so many years and he still didn't manage to perfect it. Other weapons would have been more useful like an atom decomposer gun. No traces would be left. With his brains, I don't think he would be capable of creating bigger projects at the rate he's going ^^;

Ep 6
Hahaha @ Horikita Maki. Shinagawa had longer screen time than her. Funniest is how they cut the "Mama!" scene in the preview.

Nice promotion for DoCoMo's D904i too! It just doesn't break XD

This episode was not so much about the case, more about Yukawa and Utsumi at last. I kind of enjoyed it.
I've been really surprised by how much difference the director can make to a series lately. I was watching Hataraki Man ep6, and I thought it wasn't nearly as good as other ones. I later found out just that episode was done by a different director.

When I checked for Galileo, my favorite episodes so far were:
1. Ep 1 - Nishitani Hiroshi
2. Ep 4 - Sawada Kensaku
3. Ep 2 - Nishitani Hiroshi
4. Ep 6 - Nishitani Hiroshi
5. Ep 3 - Narita Takeshi
6. Ep 5 - Narita Takeshi

Ep 3 and 5 were decidedly weaker to me compared to other episodes. They obviously make huge difference in movies, but I didn't think directors actually made that much difference in an episode-per-conclusion series like this before... I somehow assumed it was mostly about scripts and actors. I'm hoping for more Sawada and Nishitani for future episodes :-)

BTW, it's been confirmed Ep 7 guests will be Fukada Kyouko and Tsukaji Muga of the comedian group Drunk Dragon. I guess the "ACB" rank formula didn't fit (although he's the ultimate "pig" character IMO XD)

That's interesting. I thought episode 2 was by far the worst. It was totally about the science behind what the boy saw rather than the case or even the characters. Dumb people like me do not like that kind of stuff.

No, really?

I just didn't like how figuring that out didn't have anything to do with finding the killer. The kid was cute though.

Just saw Tegami (2006) starring Yamada Takayuki, Tamayama Tetsuji, and Sawajiri Erika. It was really awesome, based on a novel written by the same person as Galileo, Higashino Keigo.
I uploaded Tegami somewhere else: http://www.jpopmusic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=69055

It seems the dorama series Galileo was a throw-in for the movie deal. I'm getting high expectations for Devotion of Suspect X. Hopefully it will be as good as Tegami.

Ok, figuring out had nothing to do with the acse, but it was very Yukawa-like and I think it would have felt off if they had solved the case without explaining it at the end (personally i really wanted to know the solution!)

For ep2, I guess the case story could have been done better
if Yukawa went about his business solving the "out of body experience" while she interviewed and looked around for possible suspects, rather than having the whole episode trying to focus on proving one guy innocent. They didn't seem to even look for other suspects. Then suddenly at the end the murderer they pulled out the murderer almost out of nowhere.

She's sooo cute! Looking forward to that episode :)

Yeah, I wondered too, after all, he's still a Johnny's.
Maybe an ass-double. It reminds of this one episode in Friends.

Ok, after careful examination of that scene...I do think it is Katori's ass. You can just about see enough of his face, and he is in a non fatty phase at the moment.

I guess SMAP members are far too old for Johnny's tastes for him to be getting lol.

didn't yamapi show his butt in kabachitare? that was like 2001 and he was like 16...but that shot could have been a body double

anyways I really like the drama. don't usually watch shows that have no connection between each episodes but this drama is different. Every episode is like a movie that keeps me interested and entertain for a whole 45 mins.

I don't know if if it's Shingo's butt, but it looked his XD
Not sure because I have never seen his butt LOL

I wonder who will be guests for ep9 and 10.
Hope they are planning to have a big guest for the final^^

I like Yukawa's assistant, Watanabe Ikkei :lol
He is a poor guy. I hope he will get a chance!

So far I like ep01 the best.

Galileo should have been given all the credits on the cases that he has been solving so far. That detective girl is near to useless in solving the cases but hey, if it wouldn't be information from her, Galileo couldn't have solved the cases alone but still, the police department should reward him or something.

For me this drama ranked 2nd in this season. Good drama.

According to some sources, Ep 9 and 10 will be continuous (as in one case, Ep 9 possibly end with a cliffhanger)

It's two different cases in the novel, but apparently they're gonna mix them and make them happen together, probably with same perp or perps working together for the same purpose.
I guess this means possiblity of A-rank guest for 2 episodes? XD

Ep 7 is amazing :w00t:
Fukakyon and Tsukaji were great.
Although the story had some plotholes, it's really fun watching all these lead-level actors and actress who usually play good people in evil roles as guests :D

Fukakyon's character totally took our attention away from Utsumi in this episode. Ganbare Kou-chan!

Sigh, Utsumi really needs to step up her game. I want to see her be a bad-ass cop! There needs to be a second season where she's more experienced.

So according to the character chart for Galileo on the wiki,
The coroner knows some secret about Kusanagi (Kitamura)?
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Image:Galileo ... ish%29.jpg
Any rumors as to what this "secret" is? Or was it already mentioned in one of the aired episodes and I'm just really dense and missed it.

I'm not sure if the secret they mention is that Yukawa is the one behind all his solved cases.

Those charts are only for preview purposes. Any relationships written on it only applies to Ep 1, so yeah... It's about Yukawa.

Ah.. ok. I was sorta confused because with Iryu 2, they had separate charts (with changing relationships) for the first 4 or so episodes. I wasn't sure if the one posted on the wiki was for the first episode or for one of the more recent ones. Thanks.

Oh, I see... I'm pretty sure that's very rare. They usually only use these charts to get people interested in a series before broadcast.

Ep07 was great. And on a very simple level, it has one of my favourite scenes of Yukawa being randomly sporty xD

I have a question, though:

A lot of people talk about how Kimura-kun as AA-Rank guest in the movie would be great.... just wondered, can you think of other people who would fill such a rank in popularity?

Am i the only one who is really disappointed with every episode except 1? Ep 1 was really well done and intresting with a few twists. Every episode after that are just plain stupid and un-exciting, and every time there is something that might be an interesting story - we are shown in the beginning who is the murderer.

I find the most interesting part of the episode is the science ^^; The detective part is pretty weak. So far you have a useless cop (pretty much, I give her credit for trying to find clues sometimes). I find Yukawa is interesting. He plays the role of the eccentric scientist well. Science I give it 10. Plot wise I would grade it 7. I find some weak spots in it but in some episodes there are some lessons learned. Like...don't get married before you graduate and plan a head (episode 5). A lot of young teens don't seem to do that. Ah, I'm not sure if people liked it or not. I liked his philosophical ranting too.

I think the constant math equation writing in every episode probably annoyed everyone? kekeke It kinds reminds me of Clark Kent running to change in the telephone booth or Diana spinning around to change into her wonder woman costume, minus the annoying flashbacks.

That's the same thing that bothers me, does ANYONE know what equations he's writing? They seem to be just so arbitrary and have nothing to do with the issue at hand.

My problem with the science is that it is EXTREMELY dated. Experiments of the type that you see run (if they are at all) are now exclusively done by ENGINEERS, NOT scientists. Scientists focus on theory, modeling and computer work. Engineers do the actual testing and applications. If they want testing, this drama should have a Q style engineer that they interact with. If they want to show genius, the professor should have computers. The experiments look nice, but scientists on the university level just don't work that way

Well, I think scientists have to run tests too to prove their theory. I remember doing experiments in science class in High school and University. I also had to solve all these problems with math equations. Most of the time I had no idea what I was doing. I just memorized the formulas and tried to apply the same rule to what I learned. No idea what I was doing :P The experiments I compare with text books ^^; If results match, I'll say cuz of this and this if it doesn't I just blame it on human errors :P

If you're one then I'm two ^^;
I'm a hard fan of detective criminal series & found out myself so bored & disappointed while watching Galileo. Perhaps it's becuz it concerns 'science'. I prefer something more in action, & investigate..
I think I mentioned about it before, after eps 6, I still feel the chemistry, the interraction between the characters are just weak. The conversation or the 'quarrel' ,that some find amusing, dun't do that affect to me at all.. I just find that scientist too arrogant, intelligent yes, but too full of himself. Personally I prefer professor Ueda in 'Trick' than him lol well I know they're different ,just my reference.. What annoys me most in each eps is that I never know how he could figure out all the enigme, well ,let's see, he just takes sthing & write down bunch of equation+theorie+ flashback (sometimes incoherent, well to me) then pff we have the resolution.. At first eps, that attracts me cuz it changes but soon in further eps I got used & it bothers me.
I find myself somehow inferior to him & I dun't like that feeling. It's different to a normal detective series when the detective looks for evidence, do the investigate, searching, while along I feel like following him & discover things at the same time with him. In general, I like the feeling to be able to guess & deduct . And so in the end ,I can understand the whole story in my way. Here, I get impression he just wants to impress the 'audience', even though his character does not..well
Galileo couldn't make it to me, but I think it's still better than 'Yukan club', a pure joke & shame for being said 'detective' series...

I have have the same problem with the whole equation-writing schtick, which got very old after the second episode. It would make sense to me if the solutions to the mysteries required some form of mathematical computation. But they generally have not. Take for example episode 5, where Yukawa himself admits that the problem had absolutely nothing to do with physics. Well duh, so what was he trying to figure out while he was doodling on the police car window glass?

Basically, they don't know whether they want to do A Beautiful Mind or make him like a renaissance man. If they went all way one or the other, the contruction of the character would be much more convincing and interesting.

But I guess there is no way to argue with results, despite my criticisms, it still has the highest ratings since Hanadan 2. I think I criticize it because I WANT to like it alot but those little things really kill my enjoyment of it
