[Discussion] BOSS (All Seasons)
Good enough drama but I didn't like the last case at all. Especially when they revealed everything thought it was too amateurish the way the story unfolded. Could have ended it with a much stronger and better case.
Anyways enjoyed the drama overall, Erika is and thats all I'm gna say bout the cast.
Though whats with the clothes certain members of the unit were wearing? Thought the police would have regulations bout what can and cannot be worn? Mainly at least a proper suit or shirt and tie.

Regarding the Hollywood music used in "Boss.."
Yes, they've been just using music from hollywood movies for this show.
The most glaring example was using the main theme from the new (2009) Star Trek movie for the flashback sequence in Episode 8 (a little past 10 mins into the episode). They just took it right from the Star Trek Soundtrack CD (it's track #1), and used the whole cue (about 54 seconds) for the scene. It's the main theme of the movie, composed by Michael Giacchino.
Normally the studios would have to make a re-use payment to use someone else's music. I wonder if Fuji paid for the rights to use the music, or just ripped it off figuring no one here would notice it...
PS: like the cast. Episode quality varies (really liked Ep 6... very well written with strong guest cast).. but besides the music, what's also annoying is the camera work. The "quick zoom in stuttering steps" look is REALLY distracting after a while. Hope they lose it if there's a 2nd season.

Along with the piece of Giacchino's Star Trek theme they also used music by Steve Jablonsky from the first Transformers movie. I believe the tracks were, "No sacrifice, No Victory" and "Downtown Battle".kiddygrade wrote:I, too, enjoyed this show very much. However, as I said previously, I disapprove of the constant use of US-music such as Michael Giacchino's Star Trek. In the last episode of the series, I am quite convinced that the action music has been somehow "borrowed" to some recent Hollywood movie or TV show. (By the way, if someone recognised the source, please let me know, in this thread or by PM )
But still, I hope there will be a second season or at least a SP!

Really? I didn't recognize them, since I haven't seen Transformers (lol), but it's not surprising. (Well, yes, it IS surprising to hear famous Hollywood music in a Japanese drama; did the producer fall in love with the temp tracking???? I wonder…)Hanshin Ryu wrote: Along with the piece of Giacchino's Star Trek theme they also used music by Steve Jablonsky from the first Transformers movie. SECOND SEASON FOR BOSS!!!!
LOL, that's too good to be true! Can't wait to see the Takenouchi-Amami pairing again!!
It is now confirmed that Fuji TV will broadcast a sequel to the 2009 drama series "BOSS" this spring. Starring Yuki Amami (43) as the head of a team of detectives, the show averaged 17.0% ratings with a peak of 20.7%, and many fans have been hoping for another season.
The story this time will continue from the final scene of the first series, with Amami's character Eriko receiving a sudden phone call as she is about to leave Japan, leading her to once again take the reins of the special detective unit. The main supporting cast will be returning, including Yutaka Takenouchi, Erika Toda, Junpei Mizobata, Michiko Kichise, Kendo Kobayashi, Yoichi Nukumizu, and Tetsuji Tamayama.
The sequel will air in the same Thursday 10:00pm time slot, starting in April.Tokyograph

but have to admit, S1 was not that impressing. apart from last 2eps (that had more Yutaka scenes) the whole series was flat. plus, i was complaining the whole time about Yutaka scenes were the minimum. I hope that S2 would be much better. I also, can't wait to see Tetsuji Tamayama

It is confirmed??? Yay~
I didn't quite like the first season actually, because the plot and production were not that impressive.
However, I really want to see the second season since I love the cast so much hahaha. (especially Erika-chan <3)
What is so impressive for me is that I will get to watch Erika's drama for 3 consecutive seasons; SPEC in fall, Taisetsu na koto... something in winter and now this in spring!!!
Really wish that it will turn out to be better than the first season. Looking forward to this drama

Dunno about soft- or hardsubs, but there'll be subs on viki.kiddygrade wrote:I would be more excited if someone announced they will sub it. It is quite hard to follow police procedurals without subtitles. But there are so many great series this new season that, of course, not every single one can be done
Can't wait for Boss2 to start. Having Yutaka, Amami and Omori in first ep is
new update on official site.

Talking about subs, I wish there will be someone taking this show.
Even though there is a team at Viki but I don't think they will provide softsub (like what happened to Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta).
Hardsub for season 1 was done by TimeLesSub. The chance of them taking this one too is not very likely because they are still doing last season Taisetsu na Koto wa...
Anyway, I'm still excited for the first episode though. Miss the cast already

I agree with you, and I still have question about the relationship between Eriko and Nodate. >_<kalayaan wrote:I think the photo posted by Momosodapop is new.
I'm excited for the Season 2 as well. I really loved the ending of Season 1. I really thought that Nodate was really a part of the Black Moon back then haha.
Love Amami san ... Coming soonnnn please..
Can't wait either

Well, the website still lists Kimoto Mami as a main cast member, and she is still present in the unchanged opening sequence from Season 1. I'm guessing that she survives the gunshot, but either needs a long time to recuperate or is injured to the point that she is unable to work as a detective in the field after her recovery. I highly doubt that the writers will kill her off. Boss is pretty lighthearted, and it would go against that to have Kimoto killed. I'm guessing her role will be reduced from supporting character to recurring character. And yes, Erika is filming a movie now, and she stars as a police dog handler and trainer in that film.

Sorry I did not mean to offend you in anyway but because I hardly see your releases here on DA anymore (comparing with few years back) but now that you mentioned the reason, I see why. I did notice your latest release of At Home Dad SP though. Thanks alot for that.amrayu wrote:?Issy wrote:Yes. Was following their tweets but now I am wondering if they would be released on DA first ( or at all) or just on their site.MisS Lonliah wrote:Yaay! SARS-Fansubs will be subbing Boss 2
We always release on D-A. Our last few releases were all movies so we couldn't release here.
I am noticing some decline in fansub group unfortunately. so grateful to everyone doing this hard work just for the sake of fans.
i don't think she'll last long on the show. she's not included in the poster. they've bought in new blood to replace her which is refresshingnikid wrote:is she really be only a guest star in the 2nd series?I really like her character in BOSS, and I missed her I'll be disappointed if she'll only be a guest star

Yep, no Kimoto in the new pics on the official page etc . . . wonder wether they'll be killing her off or just making her lie in hospital throughout the series?!
EP 1 was great btw, I love Nodatechi-Osawa interaction, the case about the Eriko imposter is pretty well constructed thus far and Omori's character just makes me crack up whenever he turns up...gotta love PIPI :rofl
Oh and you can follow the "twitter" imposter here: http://imatsubu.jp/special/tsubuyaiter/
btw...viki finished subs already

Don't hurt me, but....
...it seems like the comic timing is off in the 2nd season. I loved the original series, great suspense, action and humour, but the jokes are falling flat before they hit me this time around. I'm also a bit sad to see Omori Nao* straining so hard to ham it up.

Re: Don't hurt me, but....
Agree. I thought it was a bit off putting too. but I have to admite, BOSS S1 did disappointed me over all, apart from last 2 eps that were just great of course. with that cast I thought it would be a best police drama.rootabega wrote:...it seems like the comic timing is off in the 2nd season.
