[Discussion] Unubore Deka (Nagase Tomoya, Ikuta Toma)

Post by MisS Lonliah » May 28th, '10, 23:47

TOKIO's Tomoya Nagase (31) is once again teaming up with screenwriter Kankuro Kudo (39) for a new drama series this summer. This will be their third one together, after "Ikebukuro West Gate Park" (2000) and "Tiger & Dragon" (2005).
Titled "Unubore Deka" ("Conceited Detective"), the show is an original comedy about an unusual detective (Nagase) who has a habit of falling in love with every female suspect, and his conceit leads him to believe that they are also in love with him. When he finds evidence of their crimes, he confronts them with an arrest warrant and a marriage proposal at the same time, giving them a choice between the two. Although his actual name will apparently not be mentioned during the show, he is known to everyone as "Unubore" for his conceit.
TBS says that they are lining up big-name actresses to play the guest role of the suspect for each episode. The network also hinted that there's even a case where the guest will be a male actor.
The regular supporting cast features Toma Ikuta (25) as an actor who is Unubore's friend, Mika Nakashima (27) as Unubore's ex-girlfriend, and Toshiyuki Nishida (62) as Unubore's father. The detective frequents a bar where he and a group of acquaintances are known as the "Unubore 5," consisting of Nagase, Ikuta, Jun Kaname (29), Ken Yahagi (38 ), and Mitsugoro Bando (54).
"Unubore Deka" will air on Friday nights at 10:00pm, starting in July.

TOMAlicious Fansubs announced that they will Hard sub this drama! Many thanks!

I hope that this drama will be as comedy as My Boss My Hero, as thrilling as Majo Saiban, and as interesting as Ryusei no Kizuna! :thumright:

I hope it will be the usual Kudokan drama... this means: awesome <3

In someway I expect this to be something not too far from Tiger and Dragon, the last drama where the pair NagaseXKudokan worked together.

I doubt the comedy will be anything like My Boss, the comedy done in West Gate/TIger was quite different not really straight forward like My Boss was.

Sounds like a hilarious premise, but it may fall into the trap of being too episodic. I think I'll love this, can't wait for it to be shown.

it was much clever comedy than MBMH. if it has to be comedy then i prefer it to be IWGP/T&D style.

Hopefully the drama won't be as episodic and repetitive as its plot synopsis makes it out to be. I look forward to seeing the eccentricity, hilarity, and originality that Kudo has infused into the script and that the actors will bring to life.

Another brilliant drama in the style of T&D or even Kisarazu Cat's Eye or Manhattan Love Story would be awesome in my opinion. I loved IWGP too, but since it's more serious and dark than any of the latter, I'm not expecting this drama to be like IWGP at all. Although, like Issy mentioned in another thread before, I wish I could see Nagase in a more serious and bad*ss (for lack of a better word) role, especially like that of IWGP.

i blame MBMH (even though it was my first Tomoya's drama and made me obsessively and madly in love with him for over 2 years) and Mukodono(s) for giving peope impression of him being a great comedy actor. it's true. tomobaby is a good comedy actor but as i said, he is even better in serious actor. it's beacuse people's expectation of him to do another MBMH style comedy, Karei naru spy was a failure (in my opinion). because, they tried to recycle his character from MBMH.

The show is planned to run for 11 episodes. 8 of the guest suspects have been decided so far:

Ai Kato (27) - 1st episode
Yu Aoi (24) - 2nd episode
Kanako Higuchi (51) - 3rd episode
Kyoko Koizumi (44)
Keiko Mita (68 )
Erika Toda (21)
Shichinosuke Nakamura (27) - male

The article doesn't say who the 8th person is.

And... Okada Junichi it's my secret dream XD

The list itself it's really interesting XD

Awesome! It's going to be an interesting show :)
Btw, they updated again with further cast informations

http://www.tbs.co.jp/unubore5/cast/

I translated only Mika Nakashima's character description, I don't have much time to do the rest, but I'll do it later if it has not been done yet
HIGURASHI RIE (Saeki Rie -married name)
27 years old.
Housewife.
Unubore's ex-girlfriend.

Got to know Unubore through a case three years ago, and had been a couple for two year. She decided to put Unubore under aside because of his abnormal jealousy. She is a woman who doesn't feel like being in love without a mess. Left Unubore with those words "Tired of jealousy" just before her marriage with Unubore.
Got married to Saeki whom she met on a dating site some time after that......and became a good domesticated wife making a complete change. But sometimes jealous of Unubore, even now.

Loving the cast :D
Kudo has a way of making me love every character he writes and thus get ridiculously excited every time I see the actor or actress who played them, and eventhough I'd probably not even like them in other dramas XD at the moment I'm especially excited for Kyoko Koizumi since I've watched Manhattan Love story recently and still pretty much in love with her :P
Thank you very much Kumonoito for the translation and the scans ^^ Mika looks Awesome 8)

Updating with various informations

Some of the main cast are to be appearing on various TV shows

7/3 "Ousama no BRUNCH" 9:30~14:00
7/4 "Unobore Deka suta tonabi" 16:00~16:54
7/15 "Himitsu no ARASHI chan" 22:00~22:54

CM

I also translated one of the recent reports from the official website
Report No. 07
2010.06.17

Rie x Vanity

Thank you everyone!!!!

For a few times I've delivered previews of the poster design, today I would like to report the drama shooting itself and the shooting of the scene as it gradually happened.

Now, let's start the report right away!

This happened on the 13th day of shooting the serie "Unobore Deka", Mika Nakashima in the role of Rie Higurashi.

This is how... the role of a housewife is!

So I took some pictures of this scene.

Staff A : "Mika-chan, someone didn't hear you well!"
Staff B : "Another person!?"
Nakashima-san : (blushes)
And she surprised the team.

Because...
Check this picture please! >>>
  • Image
    Saeki's wife, Rie, cute smile~~

    Image
Rie in the past. You can't tell from the picture, but it's red hair!
Rie with wild red hair changed into black haired girl wearing an apron~!
If you saw the characters charts picture while using this site, you may have noticed, Mr. Nagase who plays "Unobore" was dating Rie when she still had that appearance!

Hey, now she became like a different person.

The reason is...

Please check you when the drama will air.

I took a picture when Ms. Nakashima was discussing and negociating with the supervisor.
Mr. Nagase and Ms. Nakashima who consults the supervisor Mr. Kudo about the tempo of the conversation and the reactions they have to show, still, I took a picture of the conversation of two of them when I was walking with the hand camera.
From the supervisor "Mr. Nagase walks with you, and then point at you, as for Rie's reaction, show some deep feelings please"
  • Image
Kudo "Please speak to Mr. Unobore more harshly", Nakashima-san "Seriously?!", Kudo "Yes!"
Nagase-kun has started a polite conversation in between, thinking "I will be polite and excited ... interesting!" He laughed while watching the monitor.

After the shooting, "my pride, how pitiful" muttered Mr. Nagase while checking the screen.

Please keep looking forward to see the negotiations of vanity and Rie.

and new scans

It aired Friday. And, yes, it was good. That strange mixture between total whack and serious that Kudo is so fond of. ;) There are copies of it around and about online, but all of them are by groups that want to keep a low profile and therefor don't share openly, so no torrent yet. *iz sad*

Eh overal not bad compared to the several previous shows on the same timeslot/channel. Tiger and Dragon wasn't exactly a big TV ratings hit either. Not that it mattered since the show was so good.

It really isn't bad... Yankee-kun to Megane-chan got 13.60% last season but I think its because its a manga adaptation and that people are looking forward to seeing it adapted. :D

So far, my favourite character is Unobore's Dad. Also his partner is a great character and his looks absolutely don't match is character. I really wonder how he managed to get Rie!!

Would be nice to have some focus on the Unobore 5 in later episodes. Wouldn't like it if they are just minor figures who add some names to the cast. Kaname as a patisier has a nice feel to it ;)

As for Nagase, somehow, with all the comedic overacting, i'm still seeing Makio from MBMH.

Would be nice to have some focus on the Unobore 5 in later episodes. Wouldn't like it if they are just minor figures who add some names to the cast. Kaname as a patisier has a nice feel to it ;)

As for Nagase, somehow, with all the comedic overacting, i'm still seeing Makio from MBMH.
yess, that is what i was talking about in the begining of this thread. i hate to say that Tomoya has been trapped in his MBMH character for good. casting him in similar kind of roles and dramas is not helping much it at all.
well, as i see lots of people like his makkio character some much and love it see it over and over , then i i guess its no worry. for me, i wanted to see a non comic side of him in this drama and it did not happen. :-(

I wanted to see Nagase in a more serious role just to compare the performances

it is... the role of unubore 5 is so poor that it's frustrating. seem just a bunch of assholes around a table by increasing the ego of the protagonist.

Actually...I think this is totally intentional. XD That's how they're supposed to be! I wouldn't be too worried though. After all, this is a KUDOKAN drama and not some generic, formulaic one. I am pretty sure that they will have bigger parts in the story to come.

Second episode was even better than the first. Aoi Yuu is so awesome.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Nagase in more serious roles but Unubore is too hard to not dislike.
The scene with him going crazy on the jungle gym and him dancing to his ringtone will forever go down in Jdrama history for me. I break out in a grin just remembering them.

when I saw this drama for the first time I thought that was it. because tomoya nagase is a character so stupid? this drama is silly to the extreme! compared with kimi hannin janai yo ne that I attended in 2008 and kimi hannin was much better. unubore deka is appealing and overstretched and good actors are being 'wasted' with meaningless characters. kaname jun for example. what is he doing there anyway? he deserved a much better character. he was splendid in kimi Hannin much less appealing than the character of nagase. a penalty good actors in a bad story and characters :O

I'm hoping the drama picks up from ep 3 onwards. The first episode was pretty good, but episode 2 was really silly plot-wise.

I'm also not a fan of MBMH at all so was hoping for less overacting from Nagase and something more subtle in the lines of Tiger & Dragon or Ryusei no Kizuna, two of my favorites dramas.
To be honest, the entire premise of the drama (ie Unubore always falling in love with the culprit and proposing) is already starting to feel repetitive and silly.

For episode 1, there was at least some shadow of the doubt whether Kato Ai was the culprit and how the murder was committed. But episode 2... erm........... is Unubore not just love-sick but also plain dumb? And it was so unbelievable how Aoi Yu's character would choose to be arrested so easily.
As for Unubore 4, I like them! Haha.. they definitely add the right kind of comic relief. I hope their storylines will be expanded too, else it would be such a waste! I also like the bartender. The Mama character was a bit strange, but the actress was really good in IWGP and T&D so hopefully she gets some speaking lines and more development with the sensei! :)

Oh, and I just love Unubore's partner and Rie!

This is comedy, and supposed to be super stupid.
From Japanese point of view, every joke is hilarious and the timing of jokes are
just perfect. The way they use songs of Southern All Stars on both one and two episodes are so spot on.
It's so silly to see how people are trying to analyze acting skill or if plots make sense.

One thing I know is the subber will have really hard time making sense those very Japanese jokes and still sound funny.

Nishida Toshiyuki is doing amazing job as usual, and only Nagase can act like that and still looks cool, but also Nagase's partner, he's just hilarious.
Kudos to Kudokan for using only skilled actors.
This is nothing like MBMH.

THIS THIS THIS. Couldn't agree more with everything said.

I feel like I'm reliving the days of when Kisarazu Cat's Eye first came out. I felt like the only one defending such a hilarious, clever, top-quality show while everyone else hated it, dismissing it as a confusing, low-substance show without a point, which could be the farthest thing from the truth.

Nagase's character, Unubore, is supposed to be ridiculously stupid. That's the whole premise of the show. He's so conceited that he's completely oblivious of what's going on around him.
Aoi Yuu gave herself up so easily because though heartless, she was touched by Unubore's feelings for her and like she said, "Didn't want to bring him misfortune." It's a sign that she's perhaps not as heartless as she claimed.
The episodes may come off as redundant (though I don't think so), but I can guarantee there's an underlining story that will span across the entire series until a big reveal at the end. This is Kudo Kankuro we are talking about, he thinks ahead about these things and switches things up so the viewer doesn't get bored. In most of his past dramas, the first half of the series is lighthearted and just fun and games but then the story gets deeper and more complicated until it leads up to the big finale.

Even if this doesn't turn out to be the case for Unubore, the humor and comedic timing is incomparable to any non-Kudokan drama. He's truly in a class of his own and he never ceases to amaze me.

When I first learned of this show, I had nothing but the highest hopes for it: Nagase is my favorite drama actor, and Kudokan's shows combine comedic wit and valuable messages like none other. I was expecting something a bit more like Tiger & Dragon or IWGP, and though this drama is much different, I've loved every minute of it.

I don't think Kudokan is capable of making something I won't enjoy, and if this show ends up being anywhere near as bizarre and incredible as Kisarazu Cat's Eye, I'll be overjoyed.

You're right saayan: I crack up instantly when I think about the part where he dances to his ringtone.

What a hopelessly awesome detective.

Haha I thought he's just going to catwalk his way to the end of the harbour but nooooooooo he's doing the full swing lol I got this silly grin just thinking about it xD Agreed with Chuks, only Nagase can pull this off and still looks cool xD

For me, this drama is nothing like MBMH. I love the jokes and everyone's comic timing is just perfect XD This production is full of skilled actors and it doesn't matter to me how small their role, they still shine xD

Episode 3 \o/
I'm seeing a pattern! Face, hands, and now voice. Ilu Kudokan.

Also, it's totally all Rie's fault that Unubore is the way he is!

just finished watching ep 3, looking forward to watching again subbed!

I was concerned about the main plot being so close to 'Kimi Hannin Janai', but since Kudo is the screenwriter, I have faith that we will get a good story from the Unubore 4 that will show his writing genius!

I personally don't like the silly faces Nagase makes. Nothing against him AT ALL, just I don't think they are needed. (and this is the third drama I have watched that he does them)

Just an opinion, I loved him in IWGP ( I will seed the hard subbed for those who might have become interested after reading this thread)

agree. his character does not need this silly faces at all but it sadness me to see that he is stuck with them since MBMH and can't leave them behind :-(
if it is a clever comdey, you don't have to rely on pulling silly faces to make people laugh.
