I do realise stories are constantly being told and retold but do people not get bored with the regurgitation of this particular story line???
I can understand remakes once in a while to appeal to newer generations but the most recent adaption in recent years, ie, the Gokusen series, were just a very short while ago. While the first season was ok/good, the subsequent continuations were mediocre at best.
Leaves me questioning the public's sanity for enduring such tripe, or whether there are social issues in Japan which need addressing but can only be done so via television, or maybe there's an evil cabal at work trying to brainwash us into mindless zombies??
Just venting, I know it's as easy as choosing not to watch. If you're one of the people that do enjoy this genre, hope you don't take offence, am just on my period.

@Sorvaseven you're welcome!
@badcompany I agree with you to some extent, & I don't have answers to your question but I believe that a good number of fangirls will follow this drama because there are two members from Kis-My-Ft2 casting here. Also Karina is an attractive actress, so having such patterns in dramas over & over is not yet that bad in Japan I guess. It considered as a tradition somehow(?) To us international viewers, might sound a repeated drama though...

A remake or retold story isn't automatically bad, it can be even better than the original like the last two Batman movies . So i think the most important aspect is the performance, not necessarily a new idea for a drama. Nevertheless new and fresh ideas are essential for the hole business otherwise dramas will become really boring for the viewers!

Yeah... it kinda is >_> I wish they go on about it a different way. But what Gokusen lacked that this one didn't was... GIRLS! I always wanted to see a Gokusen where the classroom is filled with girls (if they were gonna make that many frickin seasons of the same exact plot) So this will kinda make up for it. I just think they should have made a different approach to this series.... This was made for Japan audience in mind so they probably like this kinda thing.... but seriously... lots of repetitive shows recently lol.
Karina still looks gorgeous though. ^_^ And Sailor V is in this tooooooooo

Yea she does
I watched the first episode, and while it wasn't totally bad, it was way too similar with Gokusen!
I mean, I like high school dramas, and pretty much every one of them has an unconventional teacher or someone who always believes the students or whatever. But this is just ridiculous!
Everything from slipping out her former profession in front of everyone to facing the bad guys all alone with a dramatic speech, it all feels like a copy. I don't know if I'll watch this. At least Gokusen had, like, 20 cute guys to ogle, this has barely one.

I think it's half & half. Because when she tried gathering them up you saw both girls and boys. Just the main group is gonna be that 1 girl (Aya)misuzana wrote:but is really filled with Girls or is it mostly boys??«minah» wrote:Yeah... it kinda is >_> I wish they go on about it a different way. I really hope the second eppy isn't bad..... because I don't wanna drop it... (I love Karina) but she did slip up too many times for people to not question anything. I think I'm more interested in how Masamune (well, that's his name from Clone Baby lol... Tomohiro!!) is gonna act. Because I could not stand him in Clone Baby, but had to think twice about him being in Magerarenai (sp?) no Onna because he seemed like a different person. So I kinda wanna see him act like a bad boy. Those 2 JE boys... (I'm guessing it's them... obviously not Masamune and I don't think the tall one with the black hair) are not that cute........ Actually, in Gokusen... none of the JE boys attracted me... MAYBE Kame because he looks a bit like DAIGO... but that's it.... (don't like Jun sorry >_>) So in reference to SSPiegel said about 20 boys to look at... it was everyone but the Johnnys to me >_> lol
LOL ok interesting ... Not it has me thinking to watch or not to watch ... but I like to see Karina Act soo........SSpiegel wrote:I watched the first episode, and while it wasn't totally bad, it was way too similar with Gokusen!

Guys, I have found the reason why this drama has the same feel as Gokusen... Compare the production crew below:
Production Credits of Misaki Number One!!:
Original writing (manga): Misaki Number One!! by Fujisaki Masato (藤崎聖人)
Screenwriters: Egashira Michiru, Matsuda Yuko (松田裕子)
Chief producer: Tanaka Yoshiki (田中芳樹)
Producers: Kato Masatoshi, Mikami Eriko (三上絵里子)
Directors: Otani Taro, Mori Masahiro (森雅広), Ishio Jun (石尾純)
Music: Oshima Michiru

Production Credits of Gokusen:
Original writing (manga): Gokusen by Morimoto Kozueko (森本梢子)
Screenwriters: Egashira Michiru, Yokota Rie, Matsuda Yuko (松田裕子)
Producer: Kato Masatoshi
Directors: Sato Toya, Otani Taro, Yamashita Manami (山下学美)
Music: Oshima Michiru
Source: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Gokusen
Another thing is both Gokusen and Misaki Number One!! are dramas from NTV. They didn't make a Gokusen 4 however, this is the replacement.
I'm fine with it since I miss Gokusen.

What bothers me about this show is... honestly the parents. If my mom found out I wasn't going to classes after spending so much money already... pffftt she'll kick me out. Seriously parents don't know they're students aren't going to school? Or even care about their school days (because if they did... the would see them doing homework, studying.... or even see SOMETHING from school) It's just too far-fetched in that department because it makes the parents look bad (but then they'll blame the school for me not doing their job and encouraging students to learn) Instead of only forcing these kids to go to school because they have some bad experience with am adult who goes bad (even though they're gonna be adults in like a year or so) they need to make parents more involved with their kids so they won't waste their money....
-edit- ok more into the second eppy

I love you Karina! But.... I gotta drop it >_> It's just too...... stupid (and I'm not that crazy of a Gokusen fan either.... 1 season was enough for me but to have 3!? I didn't even dare watching the movie...) but yeah... I hate the fact that they focus so much camera time on those JE boys (who aren't even that cute...) I can't take flashy glam-rock dudes so seriously as bad boys... I just can't (not offending glam-rock... David Bowie was quite hot back in the day!) but yeah... they're just too corny to me.. I'm sorry >_< And watching it will get me more pissed off.. (like how the heck can the parents not care about the activities their children are doing!? The school is greedy if they take your money... and then label a kid as not being helped... and get mad that they're in school and blame the teacher! Like I would spend money on my child to go to school and not only are they barely showing up, but their principle/teacher discourages them from coming!? But take my money?) Responsibility lies on all three (school, parents, and students... because they're like a few years away from being a legal adult) So if a show gets me this worked up.... no point in watching it lol
But the really tall dude with the curls is hot ^_^ That so-called Takuya Kimura look-alike.... man he's dreamy #^^#

Another disappointing performance from Karina, maybe I'm just expecting too much after her amazing performance in Daisuki!, maybe she needs to be more selective in the roles she takes. Other than that the only difference between this and Gokusen is the lack of violence and Karina is not the only eye candy for the male viewers.
Well I'm not sure she can pick what roles she wanna do... (a role is a role.... it's bringing in the income ^^;) but she had good roles after Daisuki.... just this one was..... well, she was pretty much like Yukie's Yankumi... who just doesn't dress sexy lol(and she's a great actress) and I dunno... the character herself is just too klutzySajen16 wrote:Another disappointing performance from Karina, maybe I'm just expecting too much after her amazing performance in Daisuki!, maybe she needs to be more selective in the roles she takes. I actually never saw Gokusen, but I've seen this general plot many times before. The quirky teacher that all the students hate, but since she sides with them, she ultimately wins them over with her sincerity and off-beat methods.
The show is stupid on several levels, but sometimes it's so absurdly over-acted that it can be funny. This isn't enough to overcome the stupidness, but Karina running in heels and a miniskirt seals the deal for me. At least for now. I don't know many people that can run that well in sneakers! But another episode might be more than I can take.

Omg it's funny you say that because when I saw Karrina running in those heels... the first thing I thought about was this show called "The Boondocks" and an episode about a prostitute & one of the jokes were "can she run in heels really really fast?" (lol not saying Karina is one just it reminded me of that scene)ssih wrote:

It's not that she hasn't had good roles since Daisuki it's that they've "only" been good in Daisuki she took my breath away, while she's given solid performances she hasn't had that wow factor, at least to me, hence my theory that I'm expecting too much
