I'd love to see Nino in HYD2, it would be such a treat to see two Arashi members in the same drama.

Out of the various Arashi members, Nino is definitely my favourite. I was introduced to him when I first watch Stand Up!, I bought the show solely to fangirl over Yamapi initially. I must say, Nino totally took my attention away from Pi (did not help that Pi was creepily skinny in the show) and I was won over ever since.

OH! a Nino thread!!!! I think he's by far the best actor of all the ARASHI members, yes even better than MatsuJun.

I really don't have much to say about him since my favorite member is actually Aiba. Just that Nino's acting is better than all other Arashi members IMO~ :)

Wah!! I saw some screencaps of MagoMago#73-omiya pair! Seems so fun and cute! Hope can download it later. And Nino finally agreed to go to deserted island with ochan (after 2nd attempts from Oo S!)
The topic for the mc is- Which members u want to date and where?
Nino actually said he want to go to Oda's concert during winter WITH A GIRL! (Oda'con suppose to be a tearing con) but then he agreed to date Ohno!

guys... here are some of interesting facts about nino:

LIKES -

Playing his guitar (he is esp. good in ballads)

Sport baseball and everything about it

Colour blue

DISLIKES -

Food vegetables (again!!!)

INTERESTING FACTS -

* Happiest moment was when he won a baseball competition

* Deepest Impression: the first time ARASHI appeared on TV

* Nino is very, very difficult to wake up, and according to Matsujun, he "opens his eyes for a while and would immediately fall back to sleep".

* Nino is a totally different person when he sets out to achieve his goal

* Aiba complained that Nino is a hyper-gamer who plays too much. He would bring along his portable electronic game everywhere he goes and play late into the night. And if he loses, he will suddenly start howling in the middle of the night, waking everyone up.

* Nino claims that although being a baseball player, he could do 14 times lifting, and he would someday like to challenge Matsujun!

* Thinks of himself as Takuya Kimura No. 2 when watching his own dramas

* Emotional, just like Matsujun, cries easily while watching TV

* He is afraid of loneliness

OTHERS -

* Joined Johnny jimusho in 1996

* Type of girl he likes:

- most importantly, they must be compatible in terms of personality and attitude, her looks and style doesn't matter as much

- she has to be sure of herself and must be capable of speaking properly instead of stuttering and using phrases like "maybe", "seems like"... though Nino admits using them frequently himself

- she has to be kind-hearted, has to have good taste and also a sense of humour

- Nino doesn't mind the girl being taller or heavier than him, but the ideal weight is 50kg

- Maybe it would be good if the girl is attractive so that it would make Nino think that she is hard to get

- her hand should be smaller than Nino's, otherwise he would think that he is holding a guy's hand! (so silly)

thanks to the author of this articLe.. ^_^

im very happy you guys are enjoying my post... weLL here's is another....

*What each member of Arashi thinks about Nino*
Taken from H November issue

1 What's your favourite work among Nino's past works?
Aiba: 'Amagi Goe' in his Johnny's Jr period! He challenged the work in cropped head... He used to use Doraemon towel to cover his head!! which was cute.
Ohno: 'Rebel Without a Cause' Because he looked a different person.
Sakurai: 'Ao no Honoo' I was impressed by his expression when he was attacking his father with a bat, have never seen such an expression on his face.
Matsumoto: 'Stand Up!' I loved his comical acting. He was impersonating our manager and it was so funny.

2 What do you think is Nino's most selling point as an actor?
Aiba: His sensitivity... I'd say the way he interprets a thing is very sharp, or open minded not only in acting but in many different things.
Ohno: Ordinary personality.
Sakurai: He's being natural but deep inside.
Matsumoto: Evanescence (by Ninomiya).

3 If you were a producer, what kind of role in what kind of work would you want him to play?
Aiba: Fantacy. I believe he's capable of acting even a role of non-human beings.
Ohno: Hyper tension character.
Sakurai: Someone totally insane. I'm sure he can do it, but wanna see him acting insane as I've never seen him acting that kind role before.
Matsumoto: An absolute looser.

4 Nino's attractive point and weak point.
Aiba: His hands! I was just talking about this today, his hands look like a beef burger.
Ohno: His hands, round and cute.
Sakurai: He always misses people, but likes being on his own as well. He gets embarrased to be found out what he really thinks inside.
Matsumoto: Small pretty hands with short fingers, might look like a beef burger.

5 What Nino has and you don't, and what do you envy him at?
Aiba: He's got a wide rage of tensions. He can do his job whatever his tension is, no matter how low or high. He knows how to react even when in low tension.
Ohno: He's quick on the uptake.
Sakurai: He's really good at getting people's mind. I think it's because he's quick on reading people's mind.
Matsumoto: He can switch himself on very quickly, for instance he's sometimes playing games just before recording, which I can't do.

6 What do you want Nino to improve?
Aiba: He always wants to read manga I'm just reading!! Although I'm telling him 'I'm reading now', he says 'lend me, lend me', which is like a school boy...
Ohno: He touches my delicate part and bum.
Sakurai: He's always playing with Ohno, which I like because it's fun to watch. But honestly scares me when I think what other people would think of them. However, it's madly funny.
Matsumoto: Used to be annoyed with him playing games beside me (laugh), but got use to it, so play whenever you like.

7 What has he changed most since debut?

Aiba: Don't know very well because we've been together most of the time. But he eats out more often now, perhaps!!
Ohno: Basically he hasn't changed at all.
Sakurai: He gets malicious tongue on TV more often these days, which we call 'Evil Comment'. But he gives sharp and great comments.
Matsumoto: The way he thinks has changed the least among all of us, which means he's tended to think things over since younger.

8 If you express Nino in colour, what colour would he be? and why?
Aiba: Probably Blue? because he used to dance in blue costume in Jr period, and I've still got the strong image of that.
Ohno: Yellow because he often wears yellow costume at concerts.
Sakurai: Pale blue, which I feel is beautiful but evanescent. It shows in his tunes he creates I suppose.
Matsumoto: I can't think of any at all. I stuck at this question and slept on it , but nothing comes up to my mind.

CLOSING THOUGHTS:
1. First, 8 questions are reaLLy NOT ENOUGH!!!
2. They could have asked more interesting questions, and the coLor thing is LAME.
3. in Q3, Jun wants Nino to act as an absoLute loser!! is this a compLiment on Nino's part?
4. The moment i read Q4, i got curious that i immediateLy looked his pics!! [haha!].
5. Ohno's answer in Q9 made me say "WTF?!", What does he want to improve on that... and Nino is a pervert huh... :lol
6. LastLy, things are stating to get interresting for Jun and Nino...

haha!! im very active today!! weLL speaking of Jun-Nino, there are some articles about them that interests me LateLy, though Sho-Nino is stiLL my ichiban!!!

i've read arashi interview on Oricon Style 8/14/2006 translated by ames_909..here's some of the question..

If you have to pick one member to be your girlfriend, who would it be? Also, please give a reason for your choice!

Aiba: Leader. Because you can feel the mutual love (laugh). The blend of gentleness and toughness gives people a pretty good feeling.
Jun: Nino. Because it feels like we won't try to butt into each other's lives.
Nino: I won't choose anyone. How is it possible to choose?!
Ohno: Aiba-chan. It feels like we would be happy baking bread together.
Sho: Waah~ this kind of question's existed ever since we debuted. Is this to draw out the charm of the other members? (laugh) Because we've been together for a long time~ things that we didn't understand to individual strengths have all become very clear. So no one's standing at the starting point. [T/N: I think he talked himself into a tangent for some odd reason...]

and another... this is too oLd but i think this is cute!! this was posted by a fan on another... thank you!!!

Minna, not sure if this has been shared so don?ft mind me if you know this already. Some fun bits about Nino since he's back:

> The first Arashi member that he met was Matsujun. He found out that jun was rehearsing for his butai so he decided to pay a visit (as Nino has worked with most of the cast members + director in jun?fs butai). Even though jun asked him not to come (out of shyness?), nino still went anyway.

> The whole group was first reunited during the shooting for G no Arashi (the uda uda special this week!! I believe~). They went out for dinner together afterwards and that?fs when Nino gave everybody the souvenir from LA. Seems that everyone was really happy with what they got.

> During the Eastwood movie press conference last Friday, our dear Nino was in need to pay a visit to the men?fs room about 10 minutes into the press con. So basically that was the main thing that occupied his mind during this whole event X_X/// Can you imagine that cute smile we saw from the press con is actually a result of him holding.....

>Nakamura Shido invited Nino to his place for dinner!!! If you know Nino is a fan of Takeuchi Yuko (who is recently married to Nakamura), then you know this is probably a pretty big deal for Nino (ha ha...at least it is for us, the fans!!). I wonder if Nino got to meet his idol ^^

After having myself an arashi goodness marathon ( :w000t:) over on youtube my brain has been basically fried, so, in the middle of many hallucinations, this one came to my mind:

Doesn't Nino look like a long-lost younger brother of Karen Mok?

Now everytime i see him I think of her as well....XD XD XD XD

I saw Letters from Iwo Jima tonight and it was amazing. I'm not a big war movie person either, but I appreciate a good film when I see it. And this film was excellent, largely due to Nino's incredible acting.

The story was really moving, especially Nino's character, a combat-inept yet honest and kind baker who constantly writes letters to his wife and recently born daughter that he hadn't seen yet since he was conscripted before she was born. I loved Nino in Stand Up, but seeing him in a such a serious, important role and playing it so well made me really happy, despite the fact that I cried like a baby throughout a good third of the movie.

I'd recommend anyone to go see it because the story is poignant, heartbreaking, but in a way, also beautiful. And if you're a Nino fan and are interested in seeing him break out of the usual Johnny's Entertainment pop/drama/variety stuff, definitely see this. It made me appreciate his versatility as an artist so much more! :-)

WORLD CINEMA
The story is written on this actor's face
Kazunari Ninomiya, 23, expands an already long résumé as the "Iwo Jima" soldier on whose visage war's toll is etched.

By Bruce Wallace, Times Staff Writer

Tokyo — Kazunari Ninomiya's face is unblemished, almost fragile, a porcelain slate of innocence onto which director Clint Eastwood projects the emotional toll of war in "Letters From Iwo Jima." Ninomiya plays Saigo, an apolitical baker conscripted into the doomed defense of the island, fighting not for the generals or the emperor but only to survive and return to his wife and infant daughter. Through his eyes we see battle, its cynicism, fear, the hatreds and pity. An unknown actor to American audiences, his face was perfect for Eastwood's Everyman.

But in Japan, Ninomiya is a mega-star, a face you can't avoid. This wisp of a 23-year-old has been in the business since he was 14. Big screen and small. Theater. A singer and dancer in Arashi (Storm), one of Japan's most popular male idol bands (and the Japanese love their idol bands). Ninomiya does TV commercials. He does radio shows, and he's a regular presence in Japan's mass-selling fan magazines. Even his voice is in demand, heard as one of the leading characters in the feature-length anime "Tekkon Kinkreet." The kid likes to work.
"It's different from wanting to be a star — I've always wanted to create something, I want to share the joy of creation with others," Ninomiya said between appearances last month for the Tokyo premiere of "Letters," which remains at the top of the Japanese box office weeks after release. The first screenings had left several young women in the audience in tears, though it was hard to tell whether they were crying over Saigo's story or from excitement when Ninomiya appeared on stage to take a bow with his costars after the credits.

Cute? Well, yes

Creativity doesn't usually come high on the list of skills needed to succeed in Japanese pop culture, where cuteness is prized above all. Ninomiya is a product of the artist management company Johnny & Associates, founded in 1963 by California-born Johnny Kitagawa, which has produced the cutest of the cute in the boy idol industry.

With his stable of talent — talento as it is known here — Johnny's exerts extraordinary power over Japanese entertainment. Kitagawa's formulaically engineered idol bands, beginning with the Four Leaves in 1968 and continuing today with the omnipresent SMAP and a steady stream of other squeal-inducers like Arashi, don't just sing. Selected from thousands of auditioning teens, the idols are trained to dance, act and handle themselves on TV as part of Kitagawa's grooming for stardom. He uses established stars to leverage TV exposure for newcomers, a grip over the celebrity-thirsty networks that is commercially successful but also suggests that Johnny's is more factory than talent incubator.

Yet many here argue that Ninomiya is different from most of the cookie-cutter cuties of the idol world. He acted before he sang, debuting on stage rather than TV, in a production of "Stand by Me" at age 14. He had the River Phoenix role.

"Nino stood out early," says Julie Fujishima, a vice president at Johnny's. "He came to us to become a talento, but it was obvious he had a talent for acting." Fujishima says Ninomiya's breakthrough came in a TV drama called "Amagigoe" that aired on New Year's Day 1998. "He was very special, very good, and it got everyone's attention."

More TV dramas followed (TV tends to create bigger stars among Japanese fans than the movies do). And in 1999, Ninomiya became one of the five young stars selected by Johnny's to join Arashi, a J-pop troupe that made its singing and dancing debut on a cruise ship off Hawaii before it had a record out.

"I always liked singing," Ninomiya says. "When I was in the car with my family we'd always play music. I liked American bands, and I went to a Bon Jovi concert when they came to Tokyo Dome. Also Backstreet Boys. When I go to concerts by Japanese musicians, I tend to study them. But American musicians entertain me."

A string of Arashi hits predictably followed, though the relentlessly bland J-pop is not really about the music but about the look. It was Jun Matsumoto, with his ripped abs, who emerged as the band's biggest heartthrob, its Davy Jones, to use a Monkees analogy.

Arashi members have all cultivated different personalities for their fans, and Ninomiya is known as the "actor" in the group. He made his first movie in 2002, a supporting role in a drama called "Pikanchi, Life Is Hard, but Happy." He continued to find theater roles, playing the James Dean role of Jim Stark in a two-month run of "Rebel Without a Cause" in 2005.

And this month, he starts a TV series called "Dear Father," in which he plays an apprentice chef working for a tough Tokyo master. He laughs when asked if he can cook. "No," he says as he emerges from the set's kitchen during a break in the shooting, his hands wet from washing dishes. "But the work is fun."

"There's a real personality to his acting," says Rieko Miyamoto, the show's director. "He can act with his mouth and his eyes." So Ninomiya was an obvious candidate when Eastwood sent out a casting call to Japanese actors for "Letters From Iwo Jima." In addition to his talent, the studio calculated that Ninomiya's J-pop aura might drag a younger crowd to the box office, a tactic that has paid off to some degree, though Warner Bros. exit figures still show that the bulk of the movie's Japanese audience is in its late 30s to early 50s.

Audition tapes were sent across the Pacific to the late Phyllis Huffman, the casting director who had been a longtime Eastwood collaborator. Johnny's had another of its stars in mind for the Saigo role and Ninomiya was originally cast as Private Shimizu, the idealistic military policeman sent to Iwo Jima as punishment for showing mercy toward civilians. But Eastwood had not settled on his Saigo, and the director asked Ninomiya to read again for that part.

A personal connection

Like most young Japanese, Ninomiya had only a sketchy idea about the events at Iwo Jima in early 1945. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he at least knew where the tiny volcanic island is located because he has a map of Japan on the wall of his bathroom at home "and when I sit down, Iwo Jima is right in front of my eyes."

He went into the role the way Japanese soldiers went to battle: unsure of the fate that awaited them, suppressing their emotions. Japanese directors like to exaggerate emotions, he says, cranking up the tears and the music. "They make movies with greater and greater emotion, and it's not realistic," Ninomiya says. "So if you make a movie [like 'Letters'] that is based on reality, some people will find it uninteresting. They will say I should have cried more in certain scenes."

Ninomiya shed his tears after the film was in the can. His grandfather had been a soldier sent off to fight Japan's imperial wars. And he told his grandson about his war: stationed in the occupied Korean peninsula, taken prisoner by Soviet troops, incarcerated in Siberia.

Then the grandson, having played a suffering soldier facing slaughter in a hopeless cause, found himself one night watching another war drama on Japanese TV.

"I couldn't stop crying," he says. "I cried, because it was my grandfather's story."

heheh it's awesome! i just got back from the theater. there were only a bunch of elderly ppl that watch this movie!

the movie just shows japans side of the story and portrays how they deal with the losing battle. im surprised by nino!!! I didnt think he could act so well and so serious. I keep thinking of stand up!! when I see nino..

it got too dramatic when the americans came on fighter pilots and started bombing the island then invaded it using vast ship cruisers. this film is very important because war is such a bad thing. i was so touched by watanabe's acting ='(

ahh you guys should watch it ^__^ i think this guys looks so cute, he looks kind of like jordan chan
