i like these 3 actresses coz they exude that natural charm. and they're really likeable!

Ryoko Hirosue, Kuninaka Ryoko an Kyoko Hasegawa

Shibasaki Kou in Orange Days was very charming, I really enjoyed the way she played her character. Also Sakai Noriko in Hoshi no Kinka was incredible. Although I hated the story line, the amount of emotion she put into her character kept me through till the end. Tokiwa Takako in Beautiful Life was great as well, she has such a genuine smile in that show, it brings back good memories just thinking about it

Takeuchi Yuko in Lunch no Joou, Yada Akiko in Last Christmas, Fujiwara Norika in Star no Koi, Ayase Haruka in Sekai no Chuushin de and Ueno Juri in Nodame Cantabile were very good as well in that aspect.

After writing this list out I just realized that I am a sucker for girls with disabilities... Anyways this is a good idea for a thread, it's fun to look back on dramas and pick out actresses purely based on there charm.

Off the top of my head . . .

Masami Nagasawa and Matushima Nanako: similar "million dollar smile", bright eyes, and sexy girlish charm.

Takashima Reiko: very sexy charisma, has aged beautifully. Uchida Yuki of 40-somethings.

Uchida Yuki: similar to Reiko for the the 30s generation. She'll charm the devil out of you.

Ryoko Shinohara: she's so delightfully hammy that you don't realize the subtlety in her work. Ryoko has multiple gears of high strung, and so watching her come unhinged is like watching a train wreck in fabulously slow motion. If the show is bad or mediocre, she'll still carry it like a real trooper.

Ichihara Satomi: at worst, she's the Amanda Bynes of her current generation, which is pretty good. at best -- that is, if she learned how to tone down her act -- she could be the nexy Ryoko Shinohara.

Matsu Takako: just because Kimura Takuya's never had a more beguiling, charming match onscreen

Oh and WTH, most charming actors:

Koike Teppei: he's adorably dorky and pretty, and he often has great hair

Fujiki Naohito: people rarely talk about his presence, because he carries a unusually warm vibe. but it's always there. you can sense him trying to connect with his other actors/actresses and we the audience picks that up. and, yeah, YamaP should be picking his brain on how to act and be really handsome at the same time.

Tadanobu Asano: hot. gifted. hot. genius?

Beat Takeshi: oh sure, he makes films nobody understands. but he's one funny sonofabeach.

Kimura Takuya: P-chan is teh sexy!!

Ueno Juri - I first noticed her in Engine, she really stood out. And she was absolutely fantastic as Nodame!
Nakama Yukie - she's versatile (movies), looks good in traditional clothing as well as modern and she's got a natural charm. Love her!

Definitely Yukie Nakama! She's so cute and she has this stage presence!

Definitely Chiaki Kuriyama (almost on a close tie with Ryoko Hirosue though).

I think currently it would have to be Nagasawa Masami. After watching proposal daisakusen how could you pick anyone else? in second maybe toda erika (she has a very energetic style and is always smiling) or sawajiri erika (very talented). and because i am an itoh misaki fan I have to put her name into consideration.

EDIT 7/22: After watching Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru aka Heavenly Forest, I have to add Miyazaki Aoi to my list. This is a must watch movie and Miyazaki Aoi does an amazing job!

Most charming is probably matsushima nanako.

She carries the charm, beauty and acting skill. I can't think of any other actress who looks better in commercials and magazine scans. She's the only actress who had kept me in a show sheerly for her presence alone.

My choice is Horikita Maki and will be her always becuz I knew she never changes & me either <3

Keiko Kitagawa- sugoooi She's pretty, adorable, femine. She was a great model & is a great actress. I'd love to see her in more dramas

Aoi Miyazaki- Totally adorable She really portrayed "Hachi"'s character in Nana Movie (1) & looked like an adorable little girl in Tada Kimi wo Aishiteru (movie)

Misaki Ito- Always charming no matter what role she's playing She's got charisma

Erika Toda- from cute (as in Nobuta) to strong (as in Gals & death Note) this girl is a great & charismatic actress

Erika Sawajiri- (she's cute & did an excellent job in 1 Litre of tears)

Aya Ueto- I only saw her in Attention Please, she's very energetic & is a great actress

Inoe Mao- very good actress

I love Horikita Maki!, I just can't get enough of her! I admire her acting skills and her personalities. And not to mention, she is really pretty.
I also adore Yuko Takeuchi and Ueno Juri. They are all great actresses in my opinion.

Every Actress that is mentioned here is really charming..that's why we love them so much....but I will have to send my vote to Horikita Maki! Just because it's Horikita Maki....also Yuko Takeuchi....and Nagasawa Masami...

Here is an explanation behind this cat-fight.

SAWAJIRI VS. NAGASAWA:

So Valentines Day in Japan is Serious Business considering the fact that Japanese people love buying and giving **** (speaking of which, I need to start stocking up on omiyage before I leave). Two big candy companies, Lotte and Meiji are going head to head this season with chocolate ads. Lotte is pushing Ghana Milk Chocolate with Nagasawa as the 'mascot' girl and their rival, Meiji has promptly enlisted Sawajiri.
That's all fine and dandy except for one thing: Sawajiri and Nagasawa apparently hate the **** out of each other.

The feud all started at the end of last year during the Woman of the Year awards held by Vogue Nippon when Nagasawa reportedly gave Sawajiri a dirty look. We've already talked about Sawajiri being a **** but apparently Nagasawa is also a diva, barking to her manager to shut off the airconditioning because she's cold backstage at 24 hour TV before even acknowledging her elder cohosts and never saying any formalities to anyone.

What's even better about this rivalry is that they both supposedly have their own little group of cronies. The Sawajiri Faction's (Sawajiri-kai) members purportedly have to call her 'Erika-sama."
"There are actresses older than Sawajiri in her faction but she pays no formalities with them." - Josei Seven
"It's said that the members of the Sawajiri Faction are largely from Nisshutsu Academy where she dropped out from. The members include Ueno Juri, Horikita Maki, Kashii Yu, Nakagawa Shoko, and possibly Wakatsuki Chinatsu and Akimoto Miri." - Gendai

Rumor has it the goal of this Sawajiri Faction is to crush their rival peers, namely actresses with the 'innocent' persona. Rumor has it that they leak scandals of such stars as Ueto Aya and Nakama Yukie in order to eliminate them for the market...at least temporarily.

So what would you do if Sawajiri & Cronies start leaking your naked pics on the internet and says stuff like (Sawajiri reportedly said this in her dressing room about Nagasawa) "I can do both (kinds of roles). She (Nagasawa) has the whole 'good girl' image and that's the only role she can do. Don't compare me to that ****!" (- Weekly Shinchou)? Fight back by starting your own gang. At least that's what Nagasawa did mid-December last year.

It's said that the Nagasawa Faction contains Ishihara Satomi, Ayase Haruka, Miyazaki Aoi, Toda Erika and Motokariya Yuika. Toda Erika apparently joined the Nagasawa-kai because she was harrassed by Sawajiri-kai, but Sawajiri-kai has its own problems with news that apparently Nakagawa Shoko has been having no say in anything they do. Will she defect to the other side?

If you compare the two groups they really aren't that different. Ishihara and Ueno are the resident pretty girls, Ayase and Horikita are the weird looking girls that Akiko Wada thinks are fat, Kashii Yu and Toda Erika are the resident 'do you know who I am? No?' girls. Who the hell is Akimoto Miri? At least I know everyone in the Nagasawa-kai. How much do you want to bet Horikita was a pity member amirite?

This entire Sawajiri vs Nagasawa feud has the entertainment industry on tiptoe and also quite entertained at the same time, and this Chocolate CM war is just the latest chapter in this extended catfight. Move over Avex girls, these girls fight dirty and get personal.

Hmmm...

Maeda Aki and Ai. I mean, honestly, Ai kicked butt in Battle Royale 2 (she and Fujiwara had about the only outstanding characters) and the only idol video she ever made was... odd (but fitting). She went to Canada for a year when she was 17 and is also the perfect voice for Kino in "Kino no tabi". Aki, on the other hand, well, she was good in Battle Royale (though, it was somewhat of a sterotypical character), but then she fires out Jogakusei no Tomo not long after BR and Harami in 2005 (where she out-macgyvers a killer and beats him to death); not to mention her performance in the Inspector Kariya series is just lovely. Interestingly, her idol videos are also rather untypical. Aki and Ai in a jidai geki wearing kimono? They're both the right mixture of mental strength, brains and looks.

Kuroki Hitomi & Miyazawa Rie, those two so easily qualify as real ladies, it's amazing.

Kanno Miho; kind of funny to see her in dramas or movies today and then watch Ecko Ecko Azarack 1 where she played a school girl. And yes, I absolutely loved her performances in Satomi Hakkenden and Sakuran.

Can't really count Kuriyama Chiaki into the "charming" faction can I? After all, most of the characters she plays are certainly NOT charming. However, when one pays attention to "behind the scenes" or "making of"s, then I have to say, yes, she is actually quite a charming young lady. That said, check the latest Glico CMs, Kuriyama's the one in it, and she looks absolutely drop dead gorgeous in that kimono.

Suzuki Anne doesn't really fit either, she's too much of a goofball, though, I add her anyway.

Shibasaki Kou. Agreed, the "you suck!" to Kimura in "Good Luck!" wasn't really "charming", but... it showed spirit, and I like that. And I only say... Dororo... holy leaping bassets! Charming, bonkers AND kickass at the same time. Someone needs to make a movie with Shibasaki and Kuriyama kicking butt. And "Maiko Haaaaan!"? Kou as maiko... if I suddenly disappear I died of nosebleed

Kanjiya Shihori, she popped up out of nowhere, but I have to say, I really like her. I admit, it sucks that she dies in three out of four jidai geki she's in, but... she's doing it extremely well. Can't wait for her first lead in the next asadora. About time she gets one.

As for the Sawajiri vs Nagasawa... oh please... I don't give a damn. Sawajiri can only play girls who're about to die in cheesy dramas (oh how I "loved" her "badass" kunoichi in "Shinobi", it sucked, it was horrible, and to think that Hotarubi is my favorite character in this story, even Ueto Aya in "Azumi" was so much more kickass) and Nagasawa hasn't played anything that really requires actual skills for quite some time. They are queens, yes, Queens of Cheesiness.

Nagasawa vs Sawajiri... the next Kano Sisters battle? It can be solved easily... Cage fight. Both factions as tag teams. And a Shibasaki-Kuriyama duo to really teach them a few lessons
