Attic Cat is actually one of my favorites. it's not a typical drama, ending is kinda open, but I want to believe that it is happy for the main couple^^ I liked KimRae Won in it. Recomend this drama to everyone. Sadly, the main actress committed suicide in real life...
Life is Beautiful is alsoo good.

Yes I agree that Attic Cat was a very charming drama. Kim Rae Won has a good grip on his role and has lovely personality I think.

Right now I am watching 'PASTA' I love it. I like seeing anything to do with chefs and cooking and this drama also has a romance which takes a long time to evolve. The two leads have a great chemistry. Another Korean 'hunk' is there as a Cook trained in Italy and I think he will be another standout just like the one in 'Coffee Prince' who was supposed to be the Japanese Waffle man.
The head chef is wonderful. Such arrogance and charm....

It is ongoing so I don't know how it ends. It has to be a happpy ending.......

Lets Look. It is three parts, so you have to put them together with hjsplit.

Oh, and on ep 11 now. Love Han Hyo Joo.

Lets-Look is a French site, like Aja-Aja with links for megaupload. They have Spring Waltz and French and English subs.

http://lets-look.com/

You have to register to use the site, but it is the first place I go to find Korean and Chinese drama's. Even used it for some Japanese ones too.

HJSpilt is a free file joiner that you need to use on Lets-Looks files as they split them. You can find that at http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

Hope this helps.

You can also go to am-addiction. It's forum similar to lets-look with MU links.

I use both. am-addiction has more variety (they generally have 3-4 versions of each episode, including a 450p link, though you need to have a specific post count to get the 720p rips), but you need to post in the thread before you get the download links. I know its not a tall order, but sometimes I'm too lazy for that and go to the lets-look instead. XD

These days, I mainly download from soompi, though (torrents).

I use silentregrets for dramas, if they aint here. For Variety shows I mainly use blogs. But we`re going into offtopic.

Anyhow, anyone has a drama which would make me addicted again? Recently, I've found my self not-so-interested/addicted in watching dramas. I still watch music shows and variety(SGB and IY) but I can't even seem to finish Creating Destiny(which is good), I have only like 4 ep`s left. Help me get addicted again? That seems to be true that when you've watched many, many dramas you kinda get bored and move to variety.

Ok thanks everyone, i managed to find ep.3 , actually i already watched all of Spring Waltz and i wanted to ask a question , i really don't get what the very beginning of ep.1 has to do with the ending , i can someone explain me read below the spoilers.
i really don't get how the beginning of ep.1 is related to the ending, at the end she goes to austria and meet with him on a bridge and then they go back to korea get married and live on the island, but at the very beginning she's in Wien on new year's eve alone and seems sad and be waiting for him, i really can't get it.

Help me find historical drama please!

Post by Spluffen » Mar 21st, '10, 15:54

Greetings! I am currently creating a sort of collection, database if you like, of historical east asian media (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese). I've been collecting movies for a long time and I have acquired quite a large collection really, however, now I'm seeking to expand that collection with some TV-dramas. (I posted here because the most popular historical dramas seem to be Korean)

I want them to be somewhat historically accurate in the sense that costumes and weapons are not toally fantasy, I don't care if the plot line or the characters completely fictional. Also, I'd be happy if there is not too much over the top martial art and wuxia even if it's okay with some of it.

Last but not least, I want them to be set BEFORE the year 1600 so no Qing dynasty, Edo period or late Joseon dynasty. Series set druing the Tang dynasty or Heian period are of particular interest.

Anyway, I'm making a website (or at least a blog) to post information about the collection later on if anyone is interested.

Thanks in advance!

About Bulmyeolui Lee Soon-shin; do you know if the Japanese and Chinese featured in the series speak their own respective language when talking to their own?

Ethlenn: Okay, thank you anyway =) Actually I have already started watching Queen Seon Duk and to my delight they actually spoke Mandarin when in China. To me that's the ultimate sign of dedication from the producers. I only watched 3 episodes yet though but I like it a lot this far.

Yeah, I'm very interested about korean movies set before 1600, I have a lot fo Chinese and Japanese, the Korean ones seem less popular (which is weird given that in TV drama korean seems to be the MOST popular). I've come by a few but not so many. Anyway, I'm interested in knowing all you know of ^^

Oh, another Latvian spotted!

Ethlenn, I feel like watching something a little bit lighter than that. Something very similar to Goong, My Girl, for example. I`ll download Cain and Abel anyways and watch it later but spring break seems to be much to free for me, since I`m a bit sick at the moment.

If that's the case, has anyone recommended My Fair Lady 2009 ? Sorry, the thread search isn't working so I can't tell.
But that's DEFINITELY a must watch if you're a fan of those you listed above. :-)

Looking for the same thing as you.

I will probably also take a look at Oh! My Lady. Since most of the spring JDorama's are not that interesting to me, except one, I will continue to immerse myself in KDrama's. After Full House and Gumiho I need to find something light and fun.

Ok i ran out of ideas of what to watch now, thanks to your help i've seen a few dramas, if anyone can give me more suggestions i'll be thankful, i list what i've watched so far:

Dramas i really loved:

Winter Sonata
Which Star Are You From?
My Girl
Green Rose
Will It Snow For Christmas?

Dramas i slightly liked:

One Fine Day
Spring Waltz

Dramas i didn't like:

Autumn in my Heart(mostly because of the tragic ending)
Full House (because of the dumb, childish male character and his stupid clothes)
Beautiful Days(boring, depressing and didn't like the characters)

@riki_kun

If this is the list of those you have seen so far, here is some of those i have watched and enjoyed :
**** Goong 2006 -some length in the story but i forgot the flaws since there was a lot more assets (cute couple - royal korean traditions - costumes - music...)
**** Thank You 2007 - just perfect !
*** All about Eve 2000 - classical kdrama about the rivalry of 2 young women (great mean character)
*** Coffee Prince 2007 - less classical kdrama with gender bender
*** Gourmet 2008 - classical kdrama about korean food
*** Love & Mariage 2008 - very funny female lead and nice story about a pro match-maker and a lawyer specialized in divorce
*** Over the rainbow 2006 - classical kdrama with music and dance
*** Shining inheritance 2009 - classical kdrama where the female lead meets a lot of harships
*** Soulmate 2006 - refreshing kdrama about love relationships with several couples

I hope you will find something in there (no sad ending in the list above)

I wouldn`t agree on some dramas that you listed under Keep away and Must watch. At least I, don`t like those historical dramas at all.

At the moment, I`m watching Soulmate and so far it seems really interesting and orginal. I recommend that one.

It is under The Legend in dramawiki.

I just love alternate titles! Sometimes a drama may have two or more of them and it can make finding them difficult.

I just finished watching Coffee Prince for the first time, and wow...I feel terrible.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the show, but now I'm strangely depressed that it's over. The feeling actually started a few episodes before the final one, just because I could sense the end approaching. Kind of like when you can sense someone's going to break up with you and you can't really do anything about it but quietly suffer and wait for the shoe to drop. Depressing. Weird. I've never had a TV show do that to me before...

So anyway, I'm pretty new to dramas, so my list is quite short, but:
LOVE:
Coffee Prince
My Girl
Delightful Girl Choon Hyang

MEH:
Autumn in My Heart
Hello Miss!

I felt the same when I finished CP... :D

You may like:
Take Care of the Young Lady (with Yoon Eun Hye from CP)
You're Beautiful (gender-bender again)
My Lovely Kim Sam Soon ( I guess it's been airing in Japan, right?)

Stay away from:
BOF

Ethlenn - Thanks for the recommendations. I actually was planning on checking out You're Beautiful sometime soon. I think I'll have to wait a while on Take Care of the Young Lady, though. If I watch it so soon after CP, I'm afraid I'll have a difficult time giving it a chance to stand on its own without constantly comparing it to CP. That's what happened when I watched Hello Miss! after watching My Girl. It just wasn't remotely as good (in my opinion), so I ended up not even finishing the series.

And actually, I have no idea what they air here - I don't have a TV. My laptop is my entertainment center. Of course, I don't speak Japanese very well (and I don't speak Korean at all), so whether kdramas are dubbed or subbed on TV here wouldn't really matter - I'd still have to watch them on my computer to understand well enough to really appreciate them. Besides, who has the time to catch things as they air, anyway? Hard to believe there was a time I had to make do without the internet...

Oh, is that so, I read Japan under your name, so I assumed, well...
(you're fortunate, so many good news in magazines, like Myojo, and you're actually there, dammit, where did I put my passeport??).
You can watch some of the dramas via ANTv (like me^^), they have Asahi and other Japan broadcasts, also KBS, MBC (Korean).
Take Care of My Lady is not as good as CP, but I watched it solely for Yoon Sang Hyun, and YEH, the rest was blaahh.
Me too, I wish a day had 36 hours instead of 24...
Take care^^

I just watched Soulmate. Drama was very good all the way and didn`t get bored in any point(at least I can`t remember being bored). Last 2 episodes were just awesome; I`m very emotion-less but even I felt sad when I watched it. I definitely recommend Soulmate, worth watching and it`s only 12 episodes.

Next in line : 9 ends 2 outs.

Give me some recommendations while I`m watching this so I can start downloading next one ;]

What have you seen. Just finished Pasta and loved it. Working my way through Gumiho, and loving that as well. Just started Harvest Villa, but only watched one episode. Starting Dong Yi, Oh, and really like the Women Who Still Wants To Marry.

I am new to this whole thing. But I

LOVED
Full House- Rain and his smile, it makes me melt
Boys over flowers- F4 who doesn't want them around

SEE IT
Coffee Prince- too adorable for words

IF YOU HAVE TIME
A love to kill- Goodness Rain is talented. More serious and drags a little. But he is pretty to watch. Plus you get to see him in some pretty great fight scenes.
