HI guys, just dropping by to get some recommendation on which K-dramas should I watch next. I've seen many of them and although I have a strong preference for light-hearted romance-comedy drama  , I dun mind watching different type includinsg those that would make me cry a river.

Here are some dramas I've finished watching and strongly recommend: Full House (I guess almost every1 already recommend this), GOONG, My Girl, Spring Waltz, MNIKSS, Wish Upon A Star, What Happened In Bali, Autumn Tale, Beautiful Days, Delightful Girl Chun Yang, Which Star Are You From, Save The Last Dance For Me ..... uhm... I can't think anymore :D

Country Princess, Only You, Vineyard Man, or Return of Condor Heroes 2006 (cdrama) are on my list 2 download next but I'm not sure. Would some1 make suggestions?

For those who like romantic comedies, aside from My Girl, Gong, MNIKSS, you can add Soulmate and What's up fox in your list. They are both awesome romantic comedies. I love them so much. You should check them out.

A specific kdrama recommendation needed!

Post by babakubo » Nov 20th, '06, 02:16

Hi there,

I'm teaching a group of young Korean students English in January and I'm trying to get an idea of what's hip. Can anyone recommend a kdrama that's:

1. Very recent
2. Popular with high school Korean students
3. Fully subbed or being subbed in English
4. Not *too* long . . say, under 25 episodes?
4. Has at least a few seeds here at d-addicts so I can download the whole series easily

?

It doesn't have to be a "good" drama, just something that I can talk about. :)

Also, if anyone wants to give me an idea of what's popular in Korea these days, like music, TV personalties, movie stars, trends, cartoon characters, etc . .

Thanks!

One of the most recent is "Over the Rainbow." It is a 16-episode series that tackles about dreams and struggles of the four young lead characters. If you want to know more, please go to "Over the Rainbow" k-drama discussion forum. I've written a short review of the said series. Goodluck!

Thanks guys! I'm downloading Over The Rainbow now, and I'll try Bad Family if I have time left later. BTW, what's up with fansubbers hardsubbing just ep 3 and ep 7 of kdramas? I notice this in Rainbow and Rude Woman . . is this normal, and if so what's the story behind it?

MY GIRL-----best chemistry and plot
---------------best consitency and balaced romantic-dramatic scenes
---------------love the whole thing

FULL HOUSE-Bi was really cute
-----------------the plot was a cliche but still awesome
-----------------song was great too

GOONG-------i'm loving the setting, teddies and eye-candies
-----------------the whole cast were nice to the eyes
-----------------the plot was nice, a bit draggy in the middle but recommended

BAD FAMILY--this is a must see
------------------totally hilarious and really convincing
------------------plus the plot is never a bore

GREEN ROSE--i loved the idea that it doens't approach the cliche of four people intertwined in a love web
------------------it's a nice break from sappy-soappy cliche series (no offense0
------------------the total intensity of the drama was great, uunderrated but really great

li yin, it seems that all the kdramas you watched were all romantic comedies, if you liked those, I suggest you watch My Lovely Kim Sam Soon (aka My Name is Kim Sam Soon)..this is definitely a must watch romantic comedy series! It's really funny and cute, the acting is great, plot isnt draggy..it's just an overall light-hearted, enjoyable series that has a lot of meaning without being super serious or dramatic. I highly recommend that you check it out, if u enjoyed the others, I'm sure you'll enjoy this one too.
Hey, it didnt win the best mini-series of 2005 for no reason. :thumright:

A plus is that it has GREAT eye candy (both the main actor, Hyun Bin and supporting actor, Daniel Henney are freaking hot!) and the girl lead, Kim Sun Ah, will crack u up! :lol

Hi. I usually watch taiwanese dramas but i recently got into korean dramas cause i just actually today finished wacthing goong and i'm almost finished watching Full house. I was just curious if any knew a drama that's really good. I mean a drama so good if you watch korean dramas you should have already watched this because it's probably a drama everyone likes good. Wow that sounded weird. But yea If anyone can reccomend anything that would be nice. I'm really into those romantic comedies that could still bring a tear to your eye.

Well.. the most popular here are..
Kim Sam Soon and My Girl - both are romantic comedies
Sassy Girl/Delightful Girl - romantic comedy
I'm Sorry I Love You - drama.. really good.
Lovers in Paris - not really that popular here but it's good (romantic comedy)
Bad Family - still quite new.. but I'm watching it right now and it's hilarious (family comedy drama)

Just finished watching "Fantasy Couple". Another "feel good" story from writers of "My Girl". I like it because it is comic throughout the show. There is no sad or unhappy part, no draggy stuff. All the characters are good and cute. The leading guy acted much better than when he's in "super rookie". Perhaps becasue he's only supporting then and he's leading here.

But comparing to "My Girl" it does not have as many touching moments. Still enjoyed it and recommend it :-)

Try Kim Sam-Soon and especially My Girl. You'll love it if you like comedies with touching moments. Both are much better than Full House.

Over the Rainbow is, well... I loved the music and the dancing and it had a 'music video' style to it sometimes. Another unique feature is that, until the end, you will be kept guessing who will end up with who. But it's not very romantic, really. More cool and stylish. It's different from the dramas you've watched so far, but I personally liked it.

Can someone recommed a K Drama that's similar to Bad Family and Full House but not too focused on romance? Thank you in advance.

Bad Housewife is not too focused on romance and it's quite funny too. Although you might not enjoy it as much if you can't relate to it.

Any Suggestions?

Hi, I'm new to Korean drama and I just finished watching my first series Full House. I enjoyed it very much and I'm dying to watch more. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm not looking for anything in particular, just really good ones =) Well, I am actually interested in Song Hye Hyo because she is very pretty and an amazing actress, but I should look into other actresses/actors too ^.^ Thanks.

Since you didn't mention Fantasy Couple - you didn't watch it?
Sometimes it's nice to have another topic like this. You eventually stumble at something new. As I did. So there was really something like "Secret"... too bad they are not seeded.

These are dramas to watch out for:

Sad Love Story/Sad Sonata - Dragged for way too long, and then has a slightly disappointing ending.

First Love of a Royal Prince - Roller Coaster of emotions, and the English sucked, even the people that spoke English seemingly had problems.

Funny Wild Girl - Tried too hard on most of the humor, had some cliche moments, and then tied up the plot horribly.

I guess Autumn Tale would be a good drama with SHK, but I haven't finished it yet to give you a good review.
Also give Stairway to Heaven a try, although it's very cliched, people who watch it as a first drama appreciate it more. I know this because it was my first drama, and some of my friends though it was ridiculous, since it wasn't.

I've actually been away from the drama scene for the past few months. School is definitely murder. Anywho now that i am back i've started with the dramas i left off with. Which were Bump off lover and Tokyo Juliet, tiawanese dramas. And now i'm rewatching Devil Beside you and Smiling Pasta. What i want now is a break from the cutesy tiawanese dramas, i.e.-ISWAK etc., and i want some intense, dark, tear jerking korean dramas! So i thought, where should i go for some suggestions on good korean dramas? And of course i thought of this thread. But it disappoints me to see that all of the korean dramas being recommended are ones i have already seen.

Example: My Girl.

So can anyone recommend a drama thats intense and sad? Something recent perhaps? Or something that hasnt been mentioned in this thread? I'd really appreciate the suggestions! Thanks in advance!

As for my contribution to this thread, here go my top 5 dramas. (Its actually very hard to choose. )

1.) Stairway to Heaven- yes i know its very very cliche. But i'm very partial to it. It was the first korean drama that got me into korean dramas. If you love Choi Ji Woo or you just love crying then i'd recommend this to you. I thought the acting was quite good too.

2.) My Girl-i loved the chemistry between Lee Dong Wook and Lee da Hae! They were so cute! This drama made me laugh, cry, and fustrated the hell out of me. But hey, i love that!

3.) Tree of Heaven-Ok so i'm a sucker for these sad dramas. Sue me. :P Im a huge fan of Lee Wan so if you are too, then go download it! I loved the pairing and the acting, its a really good drama.

4.) Goong-ooh this was one of the first dramas i ever watched. The four main leads were gorgeous and the chemistry between Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon is great! I loved how i couldnt decide who i wanted Eun Hye to end up with in the end!

5.) My sister in law is 19-This is actually the last korean drama i watched before cutting myself off from dramas. I fell in love with this, and i still am.

So if anyone has any good suggestions then i'd love to hear them. I'll be around, prowling the site. rawr.

This is probably not the post to ask this question but I couldn't figure out how to start a new post. I'm looking for a Kmovie that is a few years old.

Storyline: Girl goes to city school. Meets 2 guys who are rivals. One is a gangster (head of the gangsters actually) and the other is the head student (highest score in the whole school). Obviously, both fall for her.

Anyone know what this is? I've been trying to find it for ages! At first I thought it could be Temptation of Wolves but that's about 2 rival gangsters instead of one good one bad.

HELP!

What to show my mum next?

Post by PJB » Jan 1st, '07, 10:47

My mum has seen the following series:

Save the Last Dance For Me
My Girl
Hanoi Bride
Full House
Loving You
My Name is Kim Sam Soon
Spring Waltz

All of which she liked, so now I'm stuck about what to show her next... I can't decide for myself, because well... It's hard to please her, haha. There must be handsome characters! And something without a sad ending is better, so recommending MISA or Stairway to Haven etc won't really do... I have lots of dramas, so... please recommend away :) :salut:

Dramas you can't miss
Autumn Tale
Lovers in Paris
My Name is Kim Sam-Soon
Dae Jang Geum
Glass Slipper
Fullhouse
Sorry I love You

Dramas that are Delightful but not the BEST
Stairway to Heaven
Winter Sonata
Attic Cat
Romance
Green Rose
Delightful Girl Choon Hyang
My Girl
Goong
All In

Dramas that you watch if you have lots of spare time
Bodyguard
Summer Scent
Save the last dance for me

Other than that, all dramas can be enjoyable, there are certain dramas you may hear are great.. but may not be. Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion, but try not to listen to people whose dramas they like consist of only their favorite stars. Sometimes even if you love an actor/actress, the project might not be right for them or they may need to touch up a bit on acting. ^___^[/b]
