Hi,

Have any of you watched the "Lee Young Ae Special" in Hong Kong TVB? I hope I could download that from torrent. I got some photo of her on that show, from her fan site.

But yeah, good series, but it didn't have the highest viewer rating in Korean TV History -_-
Can you tell me what did then?? I'm really curious!! But if it did have the highest ratings, I'd be very very happy cos I think its the best drama ever which includes all K- J- Tw- HK-dramas I've seen!! Its simply unmissable...and its better to watch one Dae Jang Geum than 3 or 4 average or slight above average dramas cos this is simply excellent and definately worth anyone's time!!!

I don't think that information was reliable since some link are broken and some dramas don't have information, I found this website, http://content.mbc.co.kr/e_mbc/drama.asp?idx=6 is more reliable (look at the average viewer and rating)

Just for your information from the same website,

"At this year's Korea Broadcast Award, MBC program "Daejanggeum" (Jewel in the Palace) was awarded the Best Program award. In addition, "Damo: The Legendary Policewoman" was selected as the runner up.

In total 203 programs were entered into this year's competition and 69 programs were pre-selected into the final category."

*sigh* Just finished rewatching the series with the dvds I bought from yesasia. I felt immediate withdrawal symptoms after I finished the bonus dvd. If you guys ever have the chance, you should really watch the special tv program they made after DJG was over. It's really hilarious. The little girl who plays young Jang-geum accidentally called Ji Jin Hee unnie instead of oppa and his reaction was so funny ^_^

Yeh yeh I watched that too...Ji jin hee was so funny!! I loved the NGs more...They were so funny...'earmuff' Jang Geum!! The king's NGs were super funny too...I loved how he sit down and then fell backwards..haha!! XD

Also, I really liked the feature of the last few days of recording!! So wish the special program was longer..it was way too short!!

Even with a 45.8% average viewer rating, it doesn't make it to the list all-time highest rated dramas. And our DramaWiki has reliable info, actually.

I wish it were longer too! I don't think they talked to the actors long enough. I also wished the whole cast was there since they were missing a couple of people. I also never noticed that all the king ever does most of the time is just to say if something tasted good. Haha, his reaction was so funny during those NGs when they just played him saying that one after another. The feature where they showed the last few days was really depressing for me. It was cool, but it was sad since it was about the last episode :(

Yeh I agree it was sad, but it really made me respect all those actors and crew members...poor LYA had to do the running scene so many times..I'd be huffing and puffing after one shot in those costumes!! Haha..the king 'Emm..taste very good!!'..that was so funny!! Yeh I wish the MC talked to the actors more in teh actual program..but after they played the numerous clips..suddenly all the members were standing at the front saying their good byes...it was like 'huh?? where was the talking.interview etc...?!' I think in Korea there were more special feature programs besides this one, I've seen some Hun Serng Gung interview clips and I think there are more for other actors as well!!!

There were more programs? Aww, I wish the dvd had them all than just that one then =/ I love watching the extra stuff (I'm the type of person who buys dvds just for the special features ^^).

btw, could anyone romanize the track listing for the DJG OST?

10 Tidbits from the First 20 Episodes of Dae Jang Geum

Published on July 5, 2005 at The Straits Times

1. No fooling around
The servant girls, after entering the palace, are considered the property of the king with zero marriage prospects.

2. Rank absolutely counts
There is a head madam, top kitchen madam, lesser kitchen madams, fragrance madam, sauce madam and so on.

3. The king never eats alone
Every time the king eats, he looks like Elvis surrounded by an entourage from the kitchen staff to court officials to food testers.

4. Parrot blood virgin test
To join the palace, the blood from a parrot dipped onto the girls’ wrists must not flow down. Otherwise, they are deemed not to be virgins.

5. Early Viagra
A black pill containing extracts from a viper, kidneys of seals and essence of carps that makes the person who eats it so vigorous he can “climb a waterfall that is 10ft high”.

6. Ancient written curse
A nefarious piece of paper wishing ill fortune on a person.

7. Spoon poison detector
Detecting poison in a soup, the royal silver spoon changes colour.

8. Bee acupuncture
The sting from a bee is inserted like a needle in the tougue to cure afflictions such as the loss of taste.

9. Study groups existed in the 1400s
The junior palace girls formed cliques to study for their exams just like sorority girls.

10. So did porn
The same girls furtively peeked at a book with sketches of people in very shameful positions.

haha..this is funny...straits times is actually a newspaper/magasine right? can't believe this article was published..its so funny how these little things are pointed out!! I think the weirdest thing is the parrot blood...I mean the little girls that enter the palace are all like 10 years old right? Surely they are all still virgins right?? haha!! Also, imagine entering the palace and you are condemn from loving another man..that's so scary, I'd never enter, I mean if the king doesn't notice/like you then you are lonely for life..no wonder why their friendships are so strong!!

This has got to be one of my favorite dramas.

It had everything that you would want: great storyline, funny actors, good vs evil, delicious food, cute/pretty girls, and great acting!

The funny thing is that I never got used to when they said "ma ma ma" (your majasty or queen, or mother queen)
Wasn't that word used for all three?

The other thing was the customes especially the funny big hats for the guys looked really hedious
and the belts for the guys came up over their stomach :lol

and lastly the hair? It was really ugly to me when all the women wrapped their hair around their head :lol Their hair must've been down to their backs or something to get that much hair.

I was afraid that the ending might not live up to the great series but it did.
It was a satisfying ending, I love Jang Geum's daughter...the little girl was soo cute and acted just like her.

Wow I didn’t think that I would like this series….54 ep too much of a commitment, Period drama not a big fan… but I must admit I loved it.
This drama didn’t just show the unimaginable determination of a woman but also hope, courage, enduring strength and love…. The love of a good man who was willing to risk his own life so that she could become the first Korean woman to be the Royal King's physician in the 1400s of Korea's Choson Dynasty. Totally life-altering and yes Ji Jin-hee looks good from every angle….

Bought all three dvd boxes on amazon.com after hearing a lot of good things about this series. Currently in the middle of box set no 2. I really like it a lot. A good mix of ingridients; great story, historic facts, great actors, cute girls, drama and comedy. Overall quite a very good recipe ;)

UPDATE: Just finished watching all 54 episodes... wow... best Kdrama ever. Such a moving and sweet drama. Highly recommended!

How about youtube.com:
http://youtube.com/results?search_query ... rch=Search
You find all kinds of videos there. Making Of, Behind the scenes, interviews, etc.
And you can even find out that a Jang Geum Anime series exists (lol).
Dont miss the Kang Deok-Gu TV Ads (LOL!)

If you want to see all actors without their historical outfits, check out this video:

PS: As I wrote two posts ago. I finally watched all 54 episdes - yay. Did I already write how great this series is!
Anyone else wondered what happened to Choi Keum Young (Hong Ri Na) after she got banned from the palace? Sad that we dont get to see that mystery resolved in the finale. :-(
