¡°Spring Waltz¡± will be a story about bright, sprightly, yet heartrending love. We have used all possible subjects to develop the story, including birth secrets, incurable diseases and amnesia. So I am doing my utmost to make sure that viewers do not feel bored by cliches, such as the death of the main character, as in most Korean dramas. If we use the same old method again, it will be kind of self-reproduction, I guess.

Article on Daniel Henney:
This year, the Korean-American actor is to be back on TV, with a new role in the upcoming KBS drama ``Spring Waltz.'' The drama will be produced by the renowned producer Yoon Suk-ho, a conclusive work to his previous successes of ``Autumn in My Heart,'' ``Winter Sonata'' and ``Summer Scent.'' The combination of Yoon's success as a leading hallyu or Korean wave producer and Henney's appeal abroad brought foreign media, including from the Philippines and Indonesia, to a press conference of the actors and producer of ``Spring Waltz,'' following the preview of the drama at Yongsan CGV theater in Seoul on Tuesday.
``Spring Waltz'' is a love story of two young sweethearts who meet again after losing touch for 15 years, which is set against the backdrop of Austria's continental beauty and spring in Korea's South Cholla Province. Like Yoon's previous works, ``Spring Waltz'' also focuses on a fateful love based on childhood memory. Even before being shown in Korea, it has added new momentum to the Korean Wave hallyu, by signing contracts for broadcast rights with nine countries including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Macao, Brunei and the Philippines.
This time Henney plays Philip, a global manager of successful pianist Jae-ha. The character, an urban music buff, is a mixed son of an Austrian father and a Korean mother. Along with Henney, actor Seo Do-young and actresses Han Hyo-joo and Lee So-yeon, who are relatively new faces in the entertainment circle, will star in Yoon's latest drama.

Another article:
Actor Daniel Henney is different compared to his My Name is Kim Sam-soon days. His shyness has disappeared and he has a calm, dandy aura. Spring Waltz, which will air for the first time on March 6th, is the conclusion of the series including Endless Love; Winter Sonata; and Scent of Summer, all directed by producer Yoon Suk-ho.
Spring Waltz is a love story involving four men and women set amidst Austria¡¯s natural beauty and a Korean spring.
I¡¯m playing pianist Yoon Jae-ha¡¯s (Seo Do-young) global manager, Philip. This time I play a mixed son of an Austrian father and a Korean mother. Philip¡¯s superb appearance and manner, his excellent sense of humor, his great educational background, his love of music¡¦ doesn¡¯t that sound like me? Henney laughs.
But the look in his eyes communicated the anxiety he is experiencing from his belief that this drama will determine whether people will consider him a serious actor or not. Kim Sam-soon¡¯s Henry appears without a childhood, but Philip experiences difficulty with his parents from a young age and grows up scarred. Because he is a character with a past, 'internal' acting is necessary.
Of particular interest are his lines in Korean. If his mastery of the Korean language is lacking, he could receive his first attacks from the public. In the first part of the drama, because the character grew up in a foreign country, his speaking is limited to phrases like, 'it¡¯s cool,' and 'that¡¯s strange.' This is lower than my level of Korean. I can understand about 60 percent of everyday Korean language conversation. But my Korean lines become longer as the drama unfolds, and longer phrases are still difficult for me. When I¡¯m speaking in Korean, it is sometimes difficult for me to become absorbed in my acting.
In order to become better accustomed to Korean conversation, he says he listens to music and sings along with Yoon Do-hyun¡¯s Love 2, the band Deli Spice¡¯s Chawoo chawoo, and Lee Seung-chul¡¯s Hee-ya, which are some of his favorites. He also watches producer Yoon Suk-ho¡¯s Endless Love, and Winter Sonata, saying that he learns elegant emotional acting and subtlety from them.
Yoon has admitted that Philip¡¯s character did not exist in the beginning. This means the role was created for Henney. Will he be able to adapt to the role? That is his task for 2006.

I like episode 1 a lot. It seems like Seo Do Young is actually playing the piano in some scenes. He seems to have a real musical background, anyway.

i'm currently downloading episode one. no doubt i'm watching it for daniel henney, but i'm really hoping that it'll be worth watching besides that point. just out of curiosity, is there a fansub team for this drama yet? (i know it is kinda early, since the drama just started airing, but it's only out of curiosity. =])
Well if there is one, I am curious how there will translate a distinct southern Korean dilect.Shorty wrote:i'm currently downloading episode one. no doubt i'm watching it for daniel henney, but i'm really hoping that it'll be worth watching besides that point. just out of curiosity, is there a fansub team for this drama yet? Wrow is already helping with the German translations ^^ so I'm not really sure if another translator is needed since they don't speak german that much..... besides, most of the german parts are translated into korean, which the korean translators can translate from into english^^; but ah well, will pm u once there is a need for an extra translator,k? tyNéa Vanille wrote:I'm so excited about the fact that this was partly being shot in my home country!! I enjoyed ep 2. It was adorable and gives good background and dimension to our mysterious leads. Also, the children's acting is delightful. Too bad a lot of people are just looking for Henny. I'd much rather have a story with good acting than a drama reduced to a bad actor winking at the camera every other second.
I second that. Reviews should be more than this guy looks hot and that girl looks cute. The best plot can be ruined by bad actors and actresses.Ssang wrote:I enjoyed ep 2. Actually when I started watching the second episode I had hoped that the whole episode wouldn't be about when they were kids, but when I finished it I found that part of the story to be interesting. And the the kids acting was pretty good in my opinion. So far I'm kinda digging the storyline and I liked the music too.sofee wrote:I second that. I also don't think that Daniel Henny is a bad actor either, he's alot better than that one guy in My sweet spy. Now he is a horrible actor.
