Sungkyunkwan Scandal (KBS2 , 2010)
Ethlenn,
I know he is not stupid of course. But he is not wise in the ways of the heart yet. He is definitely going to have a fabulous awakening once he gets to know who Yoon Hee really is. Can't wait for that penny to drop.
As for decorum. it's time for Blinky's sister to find a little decency as well. She should quietly fade away and leave Son Jeon in peace.
Must say it is a tremendous pleasure waiting and anticipating for each week to roll around. It is about the only thing for which I do wait. I am usually living right in the minute all the time. This is like a box of rich candy that you can only indulge in sparingly for full enjoyment.

Robot,
Just saw that you are here in Orange Co. Why can't you see all these dramas on your TV? Do you have Cox Cable.? If so they supply about nine Asian channels. There are Chinese, Korean and Japanese channels and all the dramas and variety shows are broadcast throughout the day and night.
I like to see the dramas on the largescreen HD TV.
A cosy armchair ..a wineglass and I'm set for the evening.
Try Channel 481 and proceed down to 473. then there is also 422 which is NHK
You will find MBC..KBS and SBS Also Ch,.32 repeats shows and at times Ch118 shows Asian stuff.
Where are you located that you can't find all this??

Yes, they could cut off my internet. That would be bad...
Joking aside, last winter was one of the Buddhist Hells: a freezing cold and tons of snow. -30 degrees was a normal thing, the pipes just exploded from time to time...
All people of Buddhist faith, forgive me for mentioning this. Not my fault I read stuff.

To be truly honest whenever I read about terrible ice and snow in Northern Europe it makes me think of Stalingrad during the war in the winter. They suffered so much. I know that in England we chopped up a kitchen table to light the fire to heat the water. We could not get out of the house and the coal man could not make a delivery. That was when they used big old cart horses to deliver. We had one lovely young stallion named Prince and at the end of his day the driver would let him out of the traces and he would tear up the service road making sparks with his feet. Sometimes he would stop and poke his head in through the window of the office and he would look so fierce and we would give him a sugar cube. (precious ration) I would never want to be walking from one office to another if he was loose. Cart horses are very big.
Peggy, if you ever consider publishing your stories or memoirs, just let me know, OK^^
I hate winter, when I was a kid I was extatic to see those sparkles on the surface of snow, I could spend all day on the small sledges or sliding on my own as*, but now... I just want to export all what I have behind the window to Bermudas! Or get myself there.
On some news:
Fans are joking around that either Junggi or Ah-in should be casted in You're My Pet project. It's all joking, fine, but does it mean that the other choice from few months back just disappointed fangirls so? Just sayin'....
And to just add:

Yu Ah-in in a new movie? He is being considered in this movie based on the book "완득이".
And something for Junggi junkies:
If he continues looking stupid, I may fall for him...
And this one
Song Joong-ki book on facial grooming to go on sale in Taiwan

I really liked this as I do like period dramas. Loved the four main characters. I finished it quite a while ago but I didn't actually watch the final episode for quite a few weeks. It's as though once I watched it that would be final and I didn't want to let it go. I knew who was going to get the girl in the end.
About your spoiler last sentence...
This is the mistake all fans make - they transpose their personal types to the drama and neglect the logic of the drama. They want this or that character to end up with the gir/boy THEY want themselves to end up with.
Like you wrote - you liked Jaeshin the most so you wanted him to end up with the girl. Reason is simple - personal attachement.
As I wrote someplace else, and here as well, Jaeshin was everything but compatible with Yunhee.
Happy you liked the drama, this is actually one of 3 best dramas this year, in my opinion. I would include Pasta/Chuno, but yet somehow there were things that irritated me too much in those. One of them is called Lee Dahae... aigoo...

hehe, yes, LDH. as much as i hated her in My Girl, i did not mind her in Chuno to be honest. i thought she was more mature and less annoying.Ethlenn wrote:About your spoiler last sentence...

regarding Jae Shin, i have to agree with E-chan in here. he was my most favourite character in SKKS (well it was SJ first but as soon as JS entered the story i could not see anyone but him) and his happiness meant everything to me. but even though he liked the girl, i did not want her to end up with him. well, he was just too good for her, so it wouldn't work out for them.

I think I have four more episodes to watch. Tthey are still trying to get the Red Writer but the King's Men seem to appear out of nowhere and save the day, or night usually. Must say that for a king he does seem to have a lot of unused power. Why the long wait to use the four Flowers to find his treasure. Oh I guess we would not have a drama without that as the endgame.
Considering that Sun Jeon has now found out that his long resisted love has become decent and possibe, he is now resisting her being in the school. He has such a clear thought process that I don't understand why he does not see that if he gets her out of the school, he will probably never see her again!! Plus she will then resent him for cutting off her education and help to her family. There is always a male stupidity section to a male brain.
Really the only one sailing through life and untouched almost by distress is the lovelyGong Ha. He is such perfection. I hope he has a happy conclusion.
The loss of the bracelet is going to be hard to work around. I wonder how the writers will deal with this. The fake Red Writer has to come into the story in a larger way I think.
Off topic.
Having replied to Robot re the TV station and Asian channels, I wonder if he read my post. Maybe he does not have the Cox Cable available to him. That's too bad.I think it may be on P41 of this thread FYI

Yes, we do become emotionally involved with characters but that's the whole point isn't it. Not sure if much logic comes into it - for me anyway.Ethlenn wrote:About your spoiler last sentence...

I don't get which he/she you are talking about dear?
Ethlenn,
Is that why it doesn't work out that way in real life? No logic in parings in reality I think. So it does not always work out. In dramas it always works out the way the writers want the story to go. Not always the matings we would like.
I like the matings so far in SKKS altho I think Sun Jun is a bit removed from reality himself. Or maybe too close to it. I wait for him to warm up and explode soon. He is after all a very masculine student ... He just hasn't caught up with himself at the finish line as yet.

Matter of interest..I am re watching the drama 'Triple' which is playing on TV during the daytime. I am enjoying seeing YAI as he was then. He still had a very strong personality and it is a pleasure to appreciate his acting. Otherwise I watch it for Lee Jung Jae and the actor they call the Voice. Can't look name up now. the actresses are getting in the way of course but I can't FF or I would lose the guys...

Well the rumors are that he's going to do a drama with Ariel Lin, but I'm not sure how that is going to go. But mostly I've also heard that he's decided to take a rest? I heard he's been rejecting offers left and right cause he's been having health problems, so I'm not sure if anything is going to come up soon.

Janajee,
I enjoyed the beginnings of F4 but they did not go really far into the music world did they. I was a little sad that Jerry did not have the acting talents. He was so nervous when he ever did a live show alone. I felt sorry for him. He was trembling if he had to sing. Too bad.
Well Ariel is an experienced performer so maybe she would be a good one to support him but I wonder if he will do it. Not too keen on Ariel so far after ISWAK.
thanks for the update on Jerry.

Yes I know what you mean about Triple. It irritated me beyond words the first time. Now I am just looking at the guys, I have a soft spot for Jung Jae since I saw him in 'The Affair' And of course it is a little bump of pleasure to see Ah In before SKKS. He does have what it takes as an actor.

Peggy . . . that isn't Ah In in triple but my pet, Song Joong Ki!
And I had the same problem with that series. The Voice and Petto weren't reason enough to watch it till the end. Maybe if it aired on telly here I'd watch it though.
Have fun with the last episodes of SKKS, I'm sure you'll get what you're looking for from SJ ;)
AHH, I can write no more... Ecchan, thanks for the cuteness!!
Damn, I lied when I said I'm over the kid^^

arakira,
I know Soong Ki was in the role of the speed skater. I was talking about the third member of the advertisement group. His father had been or maybe still was a general and he was trying to interest the head of a fried chicken company in doing fliers to sell the chicken.
It that is not Ah In I have to stop driving as my vision has gone.

Just to add that Yucheon was "awarded" with the first place in a poll... wait for it.... sit and take a deep breath... "Best Airport Fashion"...
I propose, after the latest fashion display of our charming boy, to strip him... umm... the title and place of course...
Oh snap, I went to a familiar place again...

Well I could not watch Road No.1 so I don't know if that was Yoon in the cast. I cannot watch some war things and with So Ji Sub it was bound to be harrowing. In Triple I find that Yoon is charming and he has a very strong persuasion in his personality. Really good actor I think and it's not just the role here.
Driving? Whose face? I can't even listen to music when I drive.. I get so distracted that I speed up. Got stopped a few years back when I was grooving on some Mexican music. Fortunately the officer did not give me a ticket. Just a very shapr lecture.

Oh gosh.now my heart is pounding after tonight's episode. Seonjun in jail as the Red Writer. Ladies Man outed as a commoner.Things are getting very dicey all around. Now it looks as though Yun is going to be outed as a girl and to the wrong person. That son of a... Minister of War is the smoothest manifestation of pure evil. His old man is evil also but much more of a ruffian because he had to fight to get where he is now and the son has had an easy ride.
I am waiting to see where the story takes up with Choseon. Surely she is going to come to the aid of the good guys somewhere along the line.
Thought that the prison scene where the rejected fiancee overheard the conversation was a bit contrived. However it moved the plot along and used the audience intelligence to fill the details out.
I gues two more episodes should do it and satisfy me except I would like this drama to keep going ad infinitum ...

As we all, dear Peggy, as we all...
Now there is some heavy fan battle in Korea over SKKS and BK Kim Takgu - what will win at this year's Drama Awards.
All of you, voted yet?
And for petto lovers:
Song Jungki in Singapore fanmeeting. Hmm... so there is a way of doing this like that? Dressed in plain shirt? Without blings? Without as*-shaking? Hmm... weird...
Ah well, and Yucheon:

Ah well, and Yucheon:
Goo Yong Ha is a much more involved character than he presents to the students in the school. He is obviously not what he seems even tho he truly admires and loves Jaesin. His courage is unknown until much later in the story and it comes about in a very real way without undue hysterics. Indeed his calm decision and actions arrive with the right degree of drama and at the right time for him to make himself clear and also for him to find his own taith in himself. I was duly impressed with him and the way the actor made it perfectly sane and reasonable for the fashionable man about town to show his strength of purpose for what was a real cause, and the one which they all could appreciate. Very well done I think. Especially it was done well because he could return to his Ladies Man image when he decided to do that as well.
Just like to say thanks to the subbers Gods of East and Soompi... and if I could, to the drama makers as well but they wouldn't know read this, of course. I just finished SKKS, and now re-watching. I almost never re-watch, sometimes I even can't wait to finish a drama (but still have to finish them for the sense of completion, weird lol). Out of the dramas I've watched so far, SKKS is one of the best. It's not just a simple pretty boys/girl shipping (though of course that's the selling point), but it has a lot of subtle angles in the storyline that worths re-watching for closer observation. I guess I start to be a stuck-up person like LSJ lol.
Reading this thread up to page 12 and enjoy it very much. I am glad there are not many "kyaaaaaaaa" teen fangirl comments at d-addicts, they admire cuteness by making everyone else throwing up. I agree with almost all of Ethlenn's posts so far up to page 12. We seem to have similar interest, perception and point of views! But I like everyone else's posts as well even if I don't agree with some points. Thanks everyone for the discussion.
I enjoy the relationship of the 3 guys with their fathers, and the mild political tension implied. The struggle faced by LSJ's father and the King between political survival and conscience are wonderful even if too short. I love the witty conversations throughout the series. I like how LSJ gets his way using words and confident body gesture (except on love matters, he got the principles correct, but with childish attitude - that's what makes his character so endearing). He's an intelligent young man stepping out in the world with heaps of principles on his shoulder that he clutches on tightly. Testing the water, he first appeared inflexible and too upright, and so his transformation is very interesting. I think the actor has done a good job with the confident and stuck up manner, even if his face is a bit too deadpan. Hmm but then you can easily imagine how such kind of young man is the produce of his father's household. How scary that father is, and how he feeds young LSJ with Confucian words to form his character but at the same time he struggles to ensure the survival of his party and the country. His soft side comes out when he begs for his party members to accept the King's proposal to move the capital so KYS's deception doesn't need to be revealed, he basically sacrifices his political career as Noron's leader for the life of the son's girlfriend. I can totally see how he's the father, and that stubborn LSJ is the son of such father.
On their first night at SKK, LSJ calmly dealt with MJS's shouting that MJS was lost for words and could only accept him as roommates. This conversation between GYH and LSJ at the same night is also very interesting. GYH accused LSJ that he denies being at Byungpan's house because SJ disrespects the Welcoming Ceremony, with just a few succinct words LSJ is able to show GYH that he's a thoughtful and considerate person with real capabilities to back him up, not just an inflexible arrogant newbies who needs to be tamed.
My favourite characters are LSJ, the professor, GYH, the King ... but the number one is ... LSJ's father!! He's the best. All of you can drop your jaws on the pretty boys and girl, but LSJ father's the most striking one for me. Look at his eyes... *shudders*
Edit: I can't stop editing, too many fascinating things I want to write lol.

Toenail,
Agree that SKKS is one drama that bears re watching. I watch it Mon. and Tues. nights and then it repeats next morning and I watch it again;. Once I have finished the whole drama I know I will have to watch it again. I will get the DVD and revel in it once more. This is not the ordinary Korean drama at all. On the surface it seems to be a difficult love story with all sorts of problems. However, the politics of the Joseon era are uppermost behind all the reasons for what is happening.
If anyone has read or seen dramas about Joseon in the times before this drama was set, then the background is much more solid and things become clearer and more possible to believe. The plot is not up in the air...it could have happened it seems.
The drama 'Yi San' is now popping up again on TV here in US and it will be even more interesting after seeing SKKS. The history of Joseon is fascinating. So much deceit and no hesitation in killing any adversary. Life was not held in too great esteem I think. Honor was the important family base but it could be bent anytime to gain a higher position over an enemy.
Good drama, good cast. Maybe a souffle, but one that never drops after leaving the oven.
A classic I think.

AWWW, Peggy, I can imagine how you feel. Glad you loved this drama, too. The only thing that helped to lessen the withdrawals was Secret Garden. Wonder whether you'd like that one, too...
Oh and toenail, I also 'fell' for LSJ's father. Kim Gab So is an amazing actor and the presence he has on screen in this drama really made me gasp and at times, I couldn't but feel embarrased by just looking into those eyes^^

It occurred to me that the Prime Minister was being rather crafty when he decided to ask Yunhui to 'stay by the side of his son for the future' He was making sure he could keep an eye on her so that no further difficult situations would arise if the King once again went on his 'new city 'adventure. I think he also had a little admiration for her courage and audacity in going to SKKS masquerading as a male.
I can't let go of SKKS. Rather.. it won't let go of me. I am lost and don't know how to fill the void.
It would have been a joy to have maybe three more episodes just to spread the ending of the various stories to show a little glimpse of the future. I wanted to see more of Jaesin and Ladies Man now that their friendship could flourish. I really wanted to know a bit more about Blinky and how he was going to re create himself. At least he would not have his father ruling the roost with Cheosun. Maybe he would begin to appreciate how much she had been controlled, and why he was not someone she wanted to deal with. I think they would have balanced out in time.
This was a drama that could be described as perfect. Not often does a drama wrap itself around you so completely. The real life acting inexperience of at least three of the leads seemed to make them more believable in their characters. It all poured itself out so smoothly without any jarring notes at all.
If I live to be a hundred I will still want to watch this drama. I just might do that.

Hiks.. @arakira.. I saw him first, LSJ's dad is mine!!! Haha.. and I think Peggy is right, in addition to admiring KYH and thinking she's worthy enough for his son, he also wants to keep an eye on her. This girl is as intelligent as his son, but much more lively.
I am not letting go of this drama, right now I start translating the sub into my native language for my parents to watch later. I hope the subber groups don't mind, because that'll be for personal use... and I keep the credits intact
This is one fine drama, I got all my 20 thumbs up there because the toes don't want to be left out!

I had fun watching the drama as much as I enjoyed reading all of your insights on it.
Enlightened me big time. And it's really great to see bright minds exchanging thoughts and concerns than just fangirling comments.
SKKS is definitely one of my all time faves. I thought this was going to be a Hana Kimi at the beginning, but I'm glad to be proven wrong. Indeed, it's blasphemy to even think that way.
The cast are so lovable. I like how they are different from one another yet complementing of each other. They are so fun to watch. It's hard to pick favorites because each has his/her own unique "cuteness". But well, the nerd in me (I dunno why but I get easily attracted to handsome, geeky looking guys) is happy that Sun Joon ended up with Yoon Hee. I like Jae Shin too... and that rugged look of his never fails to make me faint. All the time. And Goo Yong Ha, that flirty fella. He's too adorable. Definitely, all bed scenes are the FUNNEST ones to watch.
Everything's really good. I have no complaints about the ending, only that they should have extended it a bit.. even for 10 minutes just to see more of what happened after. I believe it'll take a while before I'd like another drama again. Even my love for Rain won't make me stay watching Plan B. Haiz, SKKS is always getting in the way.
By the way, I believe this is the first time I posted in the forums section. Nice to see meet you all.

Middlefour.
Well welcome to the thread and forum. If SKKS made you post for the first time, then that proves it is a drama that will be a classic.
There are so many levels to draw you into this story. Of course the casting was magic but even then it was not just one of those 'idol' things. Even Ah In was surprised at how the other members of the group blended in so well. He was expecting 'idols' but got actors instead which made him very happy to have their co-operation.
So far I have not been pulled into watching Secret Garden. I like the actors therein but have no urge to start yet. Why?? because SKKS is holding me fast... It's true. Happy sigh.......
