Japanese representations in Korean drama and vice versa

Post by jullychan » Jan 13th, '13, 06:27

Hey everybody,
I am looking for Japanese dramas that have representation of Koreans in it and Korean dramas with representation of Japanese.
To make my point clear, for example, in Gaksital, there are characters that represent Japanese (Kimura family and others). In Hard to Say I Love You the character of Jeajoong is Korean (as he himself is).
I will be very grateful for any assistance! :-)

2 J-dramas come to mind:

Rondo (Takenouchi Yutaka & Choi Ji Woo)
Friends (Fukada Kyoko & Won Bin)

There are a lot of Korean movies that feature Japanese characters, but I can't think of a drama series other than maybe sageuks (historical dramas)...

Thank you!
I was looking more for a japanese drama that is not co-produced with korea.
What about historical dramas? except gaksital and the immortal lee soon shin, are there any others? if yes, what are they?
Thank you very much! :)

Try also Hyunhaetan Marriage War (with Im Joo Hwan as Kim Dae Chun and Akiba Rie as Shibata Takako), in latest Vampire Pros. 2 we had japanese medium played by Yoshitaka Yuriko.
I wouldn't venture in sageuks/taeha unless you want bitter images. Some are in Warrior Baek DongSoo (but played by Koreans anyway), Immortal Lee Sunshin etc.

Movies: Boat, 2009 - Lost Memories, Modern Boy.

are there japanese drama/movies about the period of WW2 or the hidayoshi invasion to korea?
or anything modern that involves korea/koreans?

Ah! Sunao ni Narenakute - Kim Jaejoong plays "Doctor" a Korean worker living in Tokyo with his sister, who attends the high school where Ueno Juri's character teaches.

There's also Bokuto Star no 99 Nichi starring Kim Taehee & Nishijima Hidetoshi.

Ethnic Koreans in Japan - called "Zainichi" but I"m not sure if that's derogatory or not - are more often portrayed than Koreans from Korea (in non-coproduced shows, anyways), and they're almost always portrayed as violent juvenile delinquents. If you have the time, you should look into their history - it will definitely take a little luster away from the gleaming Japan of J-doramas. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koreans_in_Japan)

A bit off-topic, but movies that come to mind:
Go
Hard Romanticker (Starring Matsuda Shota, whose father Matsuda Yusaku was half Korean)
Chong
Pacchigi!
