YOu could say I had no self control... BUt I did try to silence the computer as much as possible by changing fans and anything else... but when I took it to the pc shop to get it even more quiet they said that is the quietest. THe result that happened is now I have to change Universities as I have changed the course I am doing... finishing up on dramas I have started and not starting new ones... changing the internet connection so now I share with my brother... and because the schedule of the course I am doing clashed with my work life... change jobs.... only problem is because the schedule is sooo all over the place I have to find a part time job, and although I have been working for the past 3 years.. it still ain't easy. GUYS I LEARNT IT THE HARD WAY - NO AMOUNT OF DOWNLOADING SERIES/MOVIES/SONGS IS WORTH RISKING YOUR ACADEMIC FUTURE... - LOOK AT ME!!!! I HAVE SUCH A MASSIVE LIFE STYLE CHANGE AND IT AIN'T NICE TO BE LYING TO YOUR FAMILY FOR 2 YEARS..
centrelink eh? bastards won't give me a dime because I'm not 'independent', and yeah I work part-time and commute. </rant>

you seem to be pretty worried about how your family think of you? while I can understand saving face, surely re-doing a subject or two isn't the biggest deal in the world? right now I'm looking to transfer and have wasted much money and time just realising my course wasn't something I wanted to do.

and yeah, our internet is a joke huh, Japan you can get 8M/1M unrestricted for about 45$. **** thieves is what they are.
Dude.. If it was just one or two subjects it would be okay to pick it up in summer school... but it ain't... I'm talking 2 years p/t study gone down the drain....

what payment were you trying to get from centrelink? I'm going to apply for newstart or youth allowannce, which ever gives me more money.

I usually watch over 4 hours worth of TV/dramas a day and it hasn't affected my grades much. Then again, I only have 3 hours of class a day and the rest of the time I'm free...

I don't see why it would affect your grades unless you wanted it to. I watch way too much dramas for my own good, and by the rate I should be getting bad grades. However, I don't just decide not to do homework. I bargain with myself to watch an episode and then do an hour of studying when there's an exam.

down the drain? have you not been getting any passes or is your change in course non credit transferable? I'm looking at transferring in either 1.5 or 2 years Full time study and I don't think much of it will be credited (completely different course at different university), let alone the fact I won't pass many(any?) courses this semester after already adding them onto my growing HECS debt. In any case I understand that if things at uni. don't turn out it can really suck the point of living out of you. right now I'm pretty close to giving up (to what extent I'll leave alone).

they won't give me any payment, the closest I could get is y/a all I need is to be classified independent and I could be on something like over 100$ a week (ironically I would need to waste a whole lot more time earning the minimum wage to earn 'independence').

its very hard... since dramas are almost 1 hr per ep =( there HAS TO BE A WAY where i can watch dramas and still maintain good grades!!
I guess it depends on what you consider "mass". :lol If you watch below 4 hours/day, I guess you can keep up good grades. Let's say you go school from 8:00 to 1:00, then go home and start watching few episodes from 1:30 to 5:30. From 6:00 to 11:00, start doing your school works.

Or you can just focus school works during school days and save those episodes during the weekend. Just balance out your schedule.

I have a 4.0 (so far with one class! lol) but I do something productive, I cycle during my drama viewing. It's really good and u watch ur drama just fine and the hour goes by so fast. But of course you have to have the bike that is a chair not a seat ><.

I was thinking of making an electric generator from a stationary bike so that I would have to produce the power to watch a drama on a small computer and the screen :D

I think it's possible if you know how to manage your time wisely. But just watching it is time consuming and it just makes you wanna watch more and more everytime by each passing episode!!! I'm hooked on those series!

If you have insomnia it might be possible. But you hae to put in a lot of overtime to NOT FAIL. I know it's going to be hard next year when I'm in college to watch anything, so I'm squeezing in all I can now.

Since I got obsessed with dramas, my grades are still the same (mostly A, rarely B). My mom' always saying I'm watching dramas too much, don't get enough sleep, don't do my homework carefully and so on. I'm really doing my homework (not as carefully as some times ago but it isn't because dramas). I'm always doing my homework at school during the lessons which aren't not that interesting XD so I haven't so much do to at home. Watching dramas belongs to my daily routine. I watch one episode before going to school, watch one after school and 2-3 episodes after dinner. (On weekend I watch more, of course!) I'm going to bed at about 10 pm getting up at 6am and I still have the same grades at school oô Maybe I'll get this year my best certificate ever. It isn't only because of English (the grades are the same as before...), in general all my grades are better or beeing the same (except of P.E. XD).
I don't think dramas are a reason for bad grades.

the magic word: balance

some people don't have to study to get/maintain their good grades, others are not that lucky. so if your grades start dropping because of watching too much drama, cut back. if you still get good grades, then happy watching!

it's not that difficult, but it takes discipline. overall i experience that college is much more timedemanding than high school, but some think the opposite since there aren't as many compulsory lessons/seminares to attend at college. it depends a lot in what school you go to and what you study.

Grades are more important than dramas! :roll

My grades have never suffered from watching too much dramas, if it has, I would not still be on D-Addicts thats for sure. I watch more than enough dramas to last me this whole year already, but I'm still watching it so yeah. If theres a good drama, I tend to stay up til whenever just to finish it that same day, example, I started Delightful Girl, Chun-Hyang one night and finished by that morning and this is on a weekday. But luckily, I'm still only in high school [senior, c/o 06 =] ] so it's not all that hard to keep up. =] College will be harder I think, a lot harder. xp

I hate to admit it but watching dramas is wat motivates me to do better. Watching my fav actors/actresses onscreen helps me do good in school and it prevents me from heading into boredom. It's like I'm watching them do their job and at the same time entertaining me and I respond by doing good in school and influence me to always do my best.

i think you just have to know how to balance ur work, as with everything and always during life. LOL. i just got into dramas this winter, so i have not watched a lot, but once i start a series, i just want to keep watching and watching until it's over. so yeah, some days i'm up till the wee hours of the morning. but i'm in college and i must admit it's hard sometimes. i've gotten better at the whole balance thing and for the past 2 quarters I've attained a 4.0 GPA for a year cumalative of 3.8. it's all about balance, no matter how much you want to obsess over the series. schoolwork always comes first =/

Hmm. It's possible. I have like a 3.88 and I watch dramas like crazy. I do my homework during school so I can watch dramas at home. :D I don't have things after school so I can make it all happen. Ah. It's so nice. At least it helps my creativity. :D

I guess it would if you watch it a whole lot. But instead you could change to watching on drama show (episode) a day. And consentrating on your studies. Its like watching TV....don't watch so much ^_^

It's possible. I watch a lot of dramas everyday, but I still have a 4.0. ;DDD
But sometimes, like on essays, they've been going down, cuz' I was procrastinating,

Actually, it semi-makes me do my work. Because when I'm bored to wait for the drama to load, I do my work. But then when the drama is done loading, I watch my ass off. Oh yeah, there's other things that I do too that distract me.

I used to be such a smart student. Too bad my grades are rapidly dropping though, I probably won't stand a chance to go into a university. That scares me. X:

watching dramas can't hurt : they got me through med school. i begin my neurosurgery residency this june and i don't intend to stop watching dramas. believe me, good dramas actually helped me retain mountains of facts that i needed to memorize - whether it's anatomy, pharmacology, immunology, etc.

so yes, continue to do what you love doing but don't overdo it. don't splurge on all 16 episodes of [insert your favorite drama here] at once. geez, i sound like a parent already. good luck to your studies.

Lol... I wonder if the Japanese/Korean/Chinese entertainment industries know what they're doing to our grades...
I think the problem is that with the internet, people can get one series all at the same time, and then they stay up the whole night watching it. Whereas in the places where they actually air, there's only one episode per day/week, so it's not a problem.

Don't sacrifice your life for your education, sacrifice sleep. At least that is what I do... which, if you think of it, is pretty a sucky motto when my blood pressure is a little low which makes me constantly sleepy. But yeah, I've currently got a 3.86 GPA and am taking 17 units this semester, and dramas are a BIG part of my life (generally I have to watch at least one episode every day but more so if I have something worth watching at the moment). So, in conclusion, its possible to get good grades and watch lots of dramas. Just gotta know how much of each you can manage...

some interesting posts here.

watching kdrama has definitely affected my grades. it led me to change campuses so i could study korean and chinese and am now barely passing my units because i completely suck at asian languages! but i love it and i'm sticking with it.

surprising i don't find watching kdrama really helps my korean very much (unless i do it very slowly with korean subtitles turned on)

in Australia, getting good grades is only really necessary if you want to go into law/medical fields. i was never asked my marks while applying for jobs. i have four siblings, none who have degrees or even TAFE/technical college skills, but they all easily found (white collar) jobs.

i guess there is a culture gap regarding study habits... my Chinese housemates always seem mystified why i never stress out over tests or assignments.

Grades and degrees have absolutely nothing to do with getting a good job. Getting good grades and earning degrees, however, shows one's pride in himself to do his best. Even when I take the CPR/first aid certifications, I want to achieve 100-percent in the exams. It is all about doing your best and taking pride in your abilities. Despite some people's denial that grades don't show intelligence, I've yet to see someone try hard in his studies and earn bad grades for it.

I worked, watched dramas, and went to school and made a 3.8 fall semester.

It went down a bit last semester, because I gave up on one of my classes. :lol I watch dramas in the morning while eating, head off to school, and studied mostly on weekends. I stopped watching certain things (like Prince of Tennis, Detective Conan, and any new dramas) between ... April 1st and May 7th I think.

i certainly dont think watching dramas can hurt ur gades. as long as u know how to manage ur time wisely, u shouldn't have a problem. I'm a sophomore in high school, currently watching a lot of dramas, my grades arn't that good, but 4.3wgpa, 25 out of class of 950 is decent. my friend though, she is just amazing. i dont know how she does it. she watches more dramas than me, took 7 APS this past school year, 4.6wgpa, #2 out of 900, she got 2350 on SATs and is going to Princeton. Some people are just extremely talented at school/studying i guess.

i've been thinking about this... dramas are so addictve that i sometimes get worried that they may affect my concentration on revision for my exams that start in a couple of weeks, but i just try and keep it in mind that exams will only last a few weeks and i try and watch dramas as a sort of treat for myself after an exciting revision session, which is a pretty useful incentive (i find) because i'm really lazy when it comes to college work anyway but if i know that i'll get some sort of reward for doing it (and obviously the peace of mind in knowing that i'll be better prepared for the exams) then i'm more motivated to work.

I'm currently in college going towards a Business diploma. When I started back in Feb of this year, I hadn't watched any dramas but was addicted to anime. Since then, I have pretty much given up on anime and started watching dramas full force.

I'm currently getting good grades but I find that being addicted to dramas is hurting my concentration. However, I also believe this to be because I find no interest and no challenge in anything I'm doing in class. Who wouldn't find it hard concentrating when you find yourself bored to death all the time?

I haven't had much of a social life lately, either, so I find a lot of extra time to watch dramas. I don't do homework at home, though. Sometimes I care, other times I don't. My problem is I'm so confused about my life, I don't focus. I thought a business diploma was what I wanted after already going to college and finding that diploma (multimedia) to be useless. Life's no easy and as long as I'm confused, I'll get distracted and throw myself into drama-land.

Does anyone else feel this way? If you were on the path to knowing what you want and really want to get it, wouldn't you be able to focus or balance life and dramas? ^^

Oh geez.
I feel like a failure now -_-*

I'm a lazy, unmotivated, and undetermined person as it is, but I try to pass my classes to at least keep my parents from nagging at me. I've been called "Wasted Potential" from teachers before and I scrape by with Cs, yet these same teachers always throw me back into AP/Honors courses -_-*

But I have to admit, with a lack of general inegrity and motivation as it is, it has become even harder for me to keep up on academics, much less care for them.

it is possible. but really need to manage time well. what i do is i decide early that i'm only going to follow certain series during school year. so basically each week i watched like 2-3 hours of drama. and then watched a lot of drama in the break. i don't go out that much so usually friday afternoon is the best day to watch drama.

Dramas are indeed a distraction especially when there's a cliff hanger at the end of an episode. It makes you want to watch more. In a way that helps when doing homework because you'll be determined to finish it so you can watch the next one. I agree that spending all day watching does lower your grades because if it's too late in the night, it's hard to catch up with homework so the next morning you'll be drained and unable to concentrate.
