I believe they mean a lazer engraving on the back of the ipod.

I would suggest think of what YOU want it to say then finding someone to translate it. Engravings have more meaning if they mean something to you rather than just say something random in Japanese.

Does Apple engrave in kana? Engraving a sentence in romaji would be lame IMO.

Hmm, how about part of your favorite lyrics or something? Or just mention a phrase and someone will translate it here. d: 'Cause, I'm really not too sure what type of phrase you're looking for. S:

in a somewhat not really amusing sense you can put: やりたくない

"I don't want to" - I think that everytime I have to charge my ipod.

One thing to think about. If you're going to cover the iPod up with a jacket or case, the engraving won't even be seen. It's like getting a tattoo no one will ever see - why bother?

And, if you do engrave the device, it drops the value of the iPod if you plan on selling it to someone while upgrading to a newer model.
