Reposted links to dramas.

Post by apostrophethis » Apr 6th, '09, 20:57

Hello everyone!

I am very wary about posting this because I'm sure there will be mixed reactions as to what to do...but as part of a subbing team myself, I feel that it is not right for someone to repost links to downloads of the dramas without credit or any mention to the group. I came across VARIOUS series being posted in a popular forum, tvfreeload, and these series aren't only just j-dramas but k-dramas and c-dramas as well. I've asked the poster to take down the links to some of the projects of FS groups I know don't allow reposting/redistributing but I don't know what will happen.

Some of the fansub groups I noticed were TLS, SARS, BON FS, Massuki, etc.

What is everyone's take on this? I'm not sure if this has been posted, but I spoke with one of the mods and they suggested I make a discussion here.

You honestly can't stop it. It's the #1 rule of the internet. Once it's uploaded it's eternal. It will spread like wildfire and it will kill you trying to track down every root of a still growing tree.

I don't think TVfreeload will be successful of a portal. There are so many free, no-registration-required sites out there today, it makes absolutely no sense to create a members-only portal like TVfreeload. The only sites requiring registration are those that have something to hide, such as pornography, videos that infringe on copyrights, etc. The likes of Hulu, Crunchyroll, etc. will run all over TVfreeload.

I know it can't be stopped once it's posted no matter how hard the fansub groups try to set boundaries, but it's still horrible that they can't atleast put credits.

Fortunately, most of the fansub groups you've listed above normally release hardsubs so you can be sure to see their logos encoded onto the video (usually on the upper left/right corners).

As far as the soft subs go, some subbers include credits within the soft sub files so credits are available as long as the person sharing in those sites don't edit them out.

In the end, people are bound to find out who the original subbers are and will probably be linked through here or dramawiki with a google search.

It's impossible to quality control the internet and stop others from sharing without due credits and/or permission as well as posting the subs onto streaming sites.
