Foreign money identification and value
Foreign money identification and value
Yo!
Cleaning around the house, I came across a Sucrets case (just this case alone must tell you the contents is old.) In it contains a bunch of coins foreign to the United States. Background: my brother was a U.S. Marine, and traveled throughout Asia around the early to mid-1980s. These coins are what he brought back home, and gave them to me when I was in high school.
Here's what I'm trying to do. Above is a scan of one side of all the coins. I tried not to have more than one of the same coin in this graphic. I created a grid - 1 through 5 on the top, and A through F on the rows. The first row of coins would be A-1, A-2, etc.
What I need to know for each coin are:
- Country name
- The type of money
- Its native value (pounds, pecos, won, etc.)
A-1 - Mexico, 20 pesos
A-2 - Philippines, 25 Sentimos ("cents") - not made anymore; older than E-2
A-3 - Philippines, 1 Piso ("peso") - not made anymore; older than C-2
A-4 - Hong Kong, 1 dollar
A-5 - Mexico, 1 peso
B-1 - Australian 2 cents, not sure, not made anymore
B-2 - Singapore, 20 cents
B-3 - Hong Kong 10 cents, as it says on the coin itself
B-4 - Thailand - Baht - and since that's not an English number, it's the 1 baht coin.
B-5 - Australian 20 cents
C-1 - Australian 50 cents, they don't normally look like this, there are a lot of special patterns, to commemorate some special occasions usually
C-2 - Philippines, 1 Piso - not made anymore
C-3 - Australian 1 cent, not sure, not made anymore
C-4 - should be Hong Kong 2 dollars
C-5 - Malaysia - 10 sen (still in use)
D-1 - Hong Kong, 50 cents
D-2 - Hong Kong, 10 cents
D-3 - Singapore, 50 cents
D-4 - Australian 5 cents
D-5 - Hong Kong, 1 dollar
E-1 - Korean - 10 Won
E-2 - Philippines, 25 Sentimos - not made anymore
E-3 - Singapore, 10 cents
E-4 - Philippines, 10 Sentimos - not made anymore
F-1 - Somalian (10) shilling.

I'm confused why you can't figure out things like the ones that say "Singapore 50 cents" on them.
In fact most of them state the value in standard numbners on the coins too... so really you only need to be told the country and money name.
Piso is the Philippines.
B4 is Thailand - Baht - and since that's not an English number, it's the 1 baht coin.
E1 is Korean - Won.

I'm lazy! Only 30 minutes was spent between finding them and posting them. Plus, seeing things appear to be dead on D-Addicts, I thought this would be a good exercise for the members here.Puppet Princess wrote:I'm confused why you can't figure out things like the ones that say "Singapore 50 cents" on them.
