J-dramas which use Hollywood film music

Post by kiddygrade » May 2nd, '10, 08:26

Having recently watched BOSS and currently watching Sunao ni narenakute, I thought there should be such a topic, where everyone can post their "discoveries" regarding non-original BGM (instrumental ones, not songs) used in Japanese dramas.

For instance:

• in BOSS, the Main Theme and Nero is sighted from Giacchino's STAR TREK are extensively used, along Djawadi's Prison Break (and along original cues written by 3 japanese composers!)

• in Sunao ni narenakute, many themes from Hans Zimmer's The Holiday are present throughout the show so far. (thanks to <3s-tei., an precise list of the cues used can be found here : http://slashedsilver.livejournal.com/5803.html

• in Isshun no kaze ni nare, the music is taken from Hollywood films which I haven't been able to identify, except FLYBOYS de Trevor Rabin, piste 7 'Rawlings And Luciane Fly' and Annapolis by Bryan Tyler

If people have other examples, please share :)

Indeed. I had forgotten. Mind you, the people in charge of the music usually do a wonderful job, since their "compiling" is often awfully accurate. For instance, the main theme from STAR TREK fitted perfectly, in the scenes where it was used!

Everyone uses Morricone these days anyway. J-drama, Hollywood. No surprise. He's a genius.

Do you have any specific (and documented) example?

For example : Bus Stop (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Bus_Stop)

The episodes contains the Ennio Morricone melody taken from "Occhio alla penna" movie, starring Bud Spencer.
