Havent seen this series being posted... so yea here it is
From the author of LOCH and ROCH Jing Yong's last novel titled The deer and the cauldron will be released soon (sometimes within the next 6-8month). I think they almost finish shooting it.
Main star is Huang xiao ming (the guy that played Yang guo in ROCH 2006)

I saw all the cast for this series and I'm quite dismay with the female casts for playing all the wives of Huang xiao ming. They aren't all that pretty lolz.
Haha I know I can't judge them by their faces, we'll see how the series is actually is. I bet it'll be a funny one since Huang xiao ming is starring in it.

I feel pretty much the same. Among the wives, the only one I like is Cherrie Ying.khmai_kandi22 wrote:I saw all the cast for this series and I'm quite dismay with the female casts for playing all the wives of Huang xiao ming. They aren't all that pretty lolz.

However, a good cast doesn't guarantee a good drama. Just look at the previous installment of Duke of Mount Deer with Dicky Cheung.
It started off very good but it became really lame from mid to finish. Their budget is also very low. The only decent fighting scenes are in the first episode with Ekin Cheng. Well, I prefer Jordan Chan's version and of course, the Tony Leung/Andy Lau version which is the best. I also find Jordan Chan's version to be funnier. At least he kills his adversaries due to luck or through devious means. lolvancoland wrote:lolz...sorry you didn't like it Ueda, Duke of Mount Deer 2000 is one of my favorite series...I watched it so many times now. Oh my gosh, you say exactly how I feel! Recently, they've just been remaking every single popular Jin Yong series, instead of trying new ground. How many versions of Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre, Legend of the Condor Heroes, Return of the Condor Heroes, and Duke of Mt. Deer have there been?! Why haven't I seen a new version of Ode to Gallantry (Xia Ke Xing) yet? And when they did Bi Xue Jian, they got much better publicity because they did one that hadn't been done 1 billion times. *Sigh* I feel like they're just trying to cash in to Jin Yong's famous series by remaking the popular ones everyone would watch anyways, even if it they didn't do as good a job.aimlesswanderer wrote:Can't they make a new, original 'historical' series instead of recycling everything? Yes, it'd be great if they could find NEW things to make series about. China has such a rich history, there must be plenty of interesting people or areas out there.Pingu4u2 wrote:Oh my gosh, you say exactly how I feel! i don't mind the x'th version of the same story ... if you want alternatives .... take a look at what you can get @ murimzizon's CB
the only thing that's rare are english subs
cu
Exactly...I don't know why all these people are complaining they keep remaking stuff...Chinese series are aplenty...maybe go to a video store once in a while. I see tons of them around, and the complaint should be "I don't have enough time to watch all of them."Airhead wrote:hmm ... i like the pics postet before ... the cast looks nicer than expected from their RL pixaimlesswanderer wrote:...

I agree abt Shu Chang as Jian Ning, she's so funny! I heard the princess in the book is the least likable wife, I can see that in Tony Leung's DOMD84, I didn't like the princess there, either.
But I find ShuChang's portrayal is quite likable I'm not sure whether its the right portrayal or not, though, since I never read the book.
Watching to Ep25. It's more exciting and funny than I thought, although nothing really blow me away, like Bi Xue Jian did^^ ...yet.

What? Korean dramas all have the same plotline, just different actors and settings. I haven't seen one that diverts from the general plotline yet.aimlesswanderer wrote:Can't they make a new, original 'historical' series instead of recycling everything? There are a lot of good new ones, like the Emperor series and Han Wu Da Di. There's also "Da Zhai Men," "Da Ran Fang," etc. They're just a bit more series and not as popular among the younger crowd.

Indeed, even in the realm of wuxia fantasy, there are very many series. However, the only ones that get recognized are Gu Long / Jin Yong adaptations.idarklight wrote:What? Although, given the quality of the productions, it is just as well that only the major adaptations are seen. There is simply so MUCH crap. Based on the rate of new series I see at the video store, there is over 400 series made a year. Gu Zhuang (historical costume) dramas cover 20% of them (it's fewer because of general costume cost). There is a massive amount of modern cop/military drama (20%) 10% modern political drama. 20% modern romances/relationship. 20% period romance relationship dramas (largely set in early 20th century or Ching Dynasty).
^ above numbers are my anecdotal numbers, so treat it like normal internet stats

Most of the time people want exciting wuxia fight scenes and not so much political drama. Unfortunately for those people, the huge number of historical dramas try to be very realistic and thus turns off most mainstream audiences.
Also, so called "idols" always end up doing the popular gulong, jinyong stuff and never really touch the others. Most people will simply watch a series because it has people they know and will defend a series to the ends of time because someone they liked was in it regardless of how horrible it is. So when you see a bunch of older men sitting around talking about going to war with another dynasty, chances are, you really won't care who wins or loses because you don't know or care for any of them.
Therefore the common tactic of these "popular" production companies is to fill a series with as many well known people as possible and hope it sells, look at the newest flying fox from wong jing for an example (sorry to those who actually liked it). It was filled with modern celebs most of which didn't fit their roles, and with the what 300 million? (I forget exactly what was toted) budget, the special effects were horrid and the story and scenes were a total mess. While I expect nonsensical trash to be churned out by the tvb milking machine... I expected somewhat better from a bunch of movie producers with that kind of budget..
and yes.. I'm bored...
/rant off.
sorry to those who actually like tvb stuff, but I can pick out huge plot holes and mistakes in just about every series along with their identical plots...

Isn't the Flying Fox one by Tang Ren(production company)? If so, then no duh. They change all their scripts to make them idol dramas (see LoCH 08 for perfect example).
Watch the whole series. Really like it but the censorship committee kill some of the scenes. Not so good because I get confuse on some scene. Like when Wai Sui Bo and the princess was mingling with each other. And also when Wai Sui Bo was at the Border of Russia. One minute, he's with that Russian girl .. the next .. he is in the palace. Hope they come out with a UNCUT version to this.
The casting was great. The series itself was good .. it would of been better if they show more of Wai Sui Bo and his wife .. also his mom. Btw, I don't think she know he was a High Ranking official.AzNrEcCa1 wrote:how does this series compare to the other versions? is the story good? As for the other series...Dicky Chung version (2000) the cast was great ... the series was funny and the stories was so and so.
Jordan Chan version (1998) .. I didn't watch .. no english subtitles
Tony Leung version (1984 or 1986?) .. classic series so didnt expect much. It was good tho. I like Tony Leung and Andy Lau. Great cast and acting.
