I'm curious about Kouhaku Uta Gassen because lately I often found the news. Will it be captured?
Re: Kouhaku Uta Gassen
I'm sure it will be captured and posted soon after it airs. Like last year's, it will probably be a large download.canon05 wrote:I'm curious about Kouhaku Uta Gassen because lately I often found the news. Will it be captured?
I used to record it from the KTSF feed (since 2002, I believe), but I may skip it this year knowing that a better quality version will likely appear somewhere.groink wrote:I saw at least five completely different captures from the 2004 event, and three from the 2003 event. With video capturing becoming more of a common thing with each year, you'll probably see the 2005 even being posted at every Asian music joint on the Internet.

You should be monitoring JPOPSuki's torrent site. They host all the musical JTV shows. They'll more likely get it DAYS before D-Addicts.patkee wrote:I cannot wait to see Miki Imai and HIdeaki Tokunaga as well.

Jpop has a 32 hour delay for newbies.
Someone said Kyo Music City has a music file compiled. I cannot find Kyo Music City...
Re: can't wait
I'm recording it right now via Tivo, maybe i'll give it a try. It's a BIG file though so compressing it down to a reasonable size may take awhile.annnn wrote:pls, is anyone going to take and post this show here? that's one of the things I've been really missing after I left Japan...

Just finished watching the whole show! Few comments:
- Mizumori Kaori: Orgasmic performance! I love her!
- What the heck was all that nudity about???? Yukie even had a hard time speaking.
- Hikawa Kiyoshi: He went back to his male self.
- Thank GOD no one did repeats of previous years' songs (i.e. no Nada Sousou!)
- Koda Kumi: She has such a killer voice! I wish she'd just stick to that.
- Kitajima Saburo: One of these days, he's going to swallow those confetti and choke to death.
- Kitayama Takeshi: Mark my words, he's going to become one of those "must have" artists every year from hereon until he becomes deaf and mute.
- Tendo Yoshimi: She was much further back in the line-up than I would've expected based on her status.
- Mori Masako: Forget that studdering drip of an ex-husband of yours. groink-san is available!!!!!!!!!!! She's looking better than ever - I swear!
- Natsukawa Rimi with Jake Shimabukuro: They make a great pair. Great voice along with killer ukulele jamming.
- Fuji Ayako: You've got to love her nails! She's getting hotter with age.
- Mikawa Kenichi vs Kobayashi Sachiko: Kenichi wins this year!!!!! This guy really scares me...
Otherwise, congradulations White Team!!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS WIN! The Red Team just didn't have anything that really jumped out at me. The Hello Project! gang was pretty weak. Great singers on that team, but still PRESENTATION COUNTS!!!!!! You MUST put on a great presentation.

This year's show seemed to be relying a lot on outside (re: non-music performer) talent what with Ninety-Nine's Okamura, Kyaeen, Aki Hoshino, the Eigo de Shaberanaito gang etc etc. It made the show a bit more entertaining although when the Muscle Musical ( http://www.musclemusical.com/ ) people are on I think you're going into the area of overkill.
Without a doubt my favorite moment was the NHK announcer having to clarify that the dancers weren't nude.
For those who won't see the Kohaku I have some photos of the DJ Ozma incident right here: http://lostinube.blogspot.com/
Happy New Year!

DJ Ozma is a fool
Why did they invite this guy?

Because he's popular and draws attention.
The Kohaku is losing viewers each year. The Johnny's bands don't need NHK to draw tons of (mostly female) fans. MMA (K-1 and PRIDE) draw viewers from the Kohaku. Note how they've increased the amount of comedians and talentos appearing on the show. With all the things they've gone through the past year (executives caught embezzeling, people refusing to pay the NHK viewing fee) they need all the help they can get.
The old guy who appears at the end (Kitajima Saburo) publically criticized Ozma because of his attitude. This drummed up more attention and anticipation for what Ozma was going to do. During the Music Station end of year special Ozma and his dancers all dropped their pants at the end of the song so people figured it would be something along those lines.

no it's only the second year in a rowauroragb wrote:This is the 3rd year (4th?) in a row win for white.
This is a reflection on the music industry promoting male talent more than female talent. Women, like most industrialized nations, control more disposable income than men. This means that appealing to women will give a better ROI.
overall speaking, white won for 29/57 times, and 28/57 for red.
red has won most of the competitions in the early years. but recently, white is doing better.

So nobody's interested in the Kouhaku this year?
I have a feeling that Red is (finally) going to win this year b/c
1. Nakai is hosting for the Red team
2. There's going to be a special tribute for ZARD, aka Sakai Izumi, who passed away suddenly this year. (and if that doesn't tip the scales in the women's favor, I don't know what will )

Several of us editors are working on the English Wikipedia article for the 58th event. Still waiting for the song/order. I believe that the 2nd half has a lot more weight on which team wins this thing, so the order of appearance will be vital.
I just don't understand how a bunch of soft porn gravure models find themselves in the line-up, but not Ito Yuna. I'm also pleased that Tendo Yoshimi's voice is feeling a lot better.

Supposedly Hoshino Aki in the 57th event was popular among viewers. I can see other TV networks lowering their standards in exchange for ratings. But NHK?!?!?!?!mizune wrote:I've been out of the loop with a lot of things this year and thought the same thing when I saw the list...groink wrote: I just don't understand how a bunch of soft porn gravure models find themselves in the line-up
BTW, the song list is out. But I still haven't seen the ordering.

Merry Christmas everyone. Just a head's up, if you can read Japanese, the song list is posted on the NHK website. Here's the link:
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/kouhaku/syutuen/index.html
Only a couple of performances that I'm looking forward to, but won't see until the game (the Sugar Bowl) ends.

They invited Leah Dizon, Nakagawa Shoko and AKB48 to get more Akiba-kei otaku viewers, IIRC. (AKB48 aren't really gravure idols though. ^^;;) I like Shokotan though (more for her singing/blog/tarento stuff than her gravure stuff though), so I'm a bit happier than you. I don't care for Leah Dizon, though...groink wrote:Supposedly Hoshino Aki in the 57th event was popular among viewers. I can see other TV networks lowering their standards in exchange for ratings. But from what I read, those three will be in their own section (I think they'll open the show? not sure).
Edit: Nope, the H!P groups will be opening the show, followed by some enka singer. Leah, Shoko and AKB48 will sing after the Oshiri Kajiri Mushi segment, according to the NHK Kouhaku songlist page. Then Kome Kome Club will sing after them.

Seriously man, I am so sick of that song...
As for who won...
It was a much better show than last years goof (an no i wasnt referring to the torrent )
Sad news for me though since I was not in on the whole news year from Japan, about Zard's singer Sakai Izumi-san, very sad indeed.
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_48913.htm
There where a few more tributes, likely worth mentioning but I dont feel in the mood to offer any spoilers here. If someone wishes to do subs for this years talkative parts, it would be very much appreciated.
Maybe its just me but I do feel a sense of personal responsibility in actually understanding the full conversation on these topics, relating to tributes and such. Or maybe it's just some age-related thing about being reminded one is not as young as one thought anymore seeing this.
Great on the part of Hitoto You as well, in her performance. Very touching indeed.
although I cant say Leah dizon is much higher in my ratings after this participation than before

quite informative
Hi guys. I just watched the first half of the show and I was hoping someone could tell me the name of a specific performer. She was the girl that played the piano about 35 minutes into it. She was wearing jeans with a red jersey. I took a look at the wikipedia page but couldn't find out which one was her. Thanks.

Any news about the acts that will appear during the 62nd Kouhaku -- that is, 2011? I've seen some rumored lists (and also some rumors that various regulars won't be appearing due to the entertainment industry anti-yakuza-entanglement crackdown!), but no announcement yet. I think last year the announcement was made around November 24, and it's already November 25 in Japan.
They have announced the hosts officially, and they're Inoue Mao and Arashi.
I'm a bit tired of all the otaku/oyaji-pleasing girl groups and the guys always winning, but I'll watch it anyway. Also, this year we are planning to have a Kouhaku/New Year's party for a college Japanese culture club, so we'll show it there and it'll be the first time for almost everyone to see it. It should be interesting for them. I hope that Kobayashi Sachiko and Mikawa Kenichi blow their minds!
Anyway, if you run across the announcement, please share!
(P. S. Happy Thanksgiving from the US!)
