Tom Larsen lying like a rug!

Post by pokute » Aug 23rd, '07, 18:03

In this supposed "article", which has all the earmarks of a paid-for-puff-piece, some doofus takes Tom Larsen's word at face value and states baldly that YAE is unrelated to YesAsia:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/articles/ ... dramas.htm

Well, here is the registration info for yaentertainment.com, once again, to prove the lie:

Domain name: yaentertainment.com

Registrant:
Joshua Lau
9/F Watson Centre 16-22 Kung Yip Street
Kwai Chung, na
HK
Email: joshua@yesasia.com

Administrative Contact:
KwokChu Lau

San Bruno, CA 94066

Phone: 650-517-5100
Email: joshua@yesasia.com

Here is a document showing that KwokChu and Joshua are the same person:

http://www.secinfo.com/dV5Ff.61wb.k.htm

And here is the "traceroute" path to the computer that serves the website www.yaentertainment.com:

traceroute to www.yaentertainment.com (61.14.129.213), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

10 yesasia.com (202.147.17.195) 197.388 ms 211.981 ms 182.648 ms

Your guess is as good as mine why Tom Larsen feels this charade is necessary.

I don't know any details re the connection between YesAsia and YAE..but I did assume they were connected. Tom Larsen always worked for YesAsia. I just thought that the YAE was a division. They certainly stopped many people who were devotees of Kdrama from doing any fan translations and making videos for special websites.Something about being licensed I think.

this long article seems to be an advertisement for YAE. It does not tell me anything that Idid not already know LONG BEFORE many of the dramas mentioned.finerdramas were on the market and played on TV before Winter Sonata. this drama was not a bad drama but the reason it is pegged so high is that the publicity was all massed on a big buildup for Bae Yomg Jun. He has since done very few dramas but is a big business tycoon. He is a star of stars in Japan through fan events, but there are many actors who came before him and present ones who can act him off the screen. I happen to like him as a character so don't throw stones my way. I am just expressing my opinion re the article about YAE.
The entertainment business in Korea is trying to expand throughout Asia but it will take a long time to spread worldwide. On the other hand Japanese film is recognised and their film work is superior to many countries. their TV dramas are usually of high quality also. The Chinese TV drama ''Shanghai Bund now showing on TV in Caliornia is brilliant and has a super star in the making as the male lead.
Well I havespread myself wide here considering I was commenting on a long article without much critical depth. Forgive.....

Peggy

Interesting. So perhaps all the smoke-and-mirrors is some kind of strategy to protect the identities of some of the players in this Korea-Hong Kong-USA venture. But what exactly are they protecting themselves FROM?

I wish they spent as much time making accurate subtitles as they do making grandiose predictions about the potential size of their market... I would be willing to bet that the potential size of their market is somewhere around twice the number of D-Addicts fans of K-Drama who have contributed to this site via PayPal, and that YAE is currently operating at a fabulous loss ;^)

Since I posted the above domain registration info, the domain registration info has been changed!!

It now shows this:

Registrant:
Domain Discreet
ATTN: yaentertainment.com
P.O. Box 278
Yarmouth, NS B5A 4B2
CA
Email: aa26f1dd0a1e672a01ad9512be7b1d90@domaindiscreet.com

So, it seems they feel they have something to hide... Tsk, tsk.

Since they seem to not be above "fixing" the evidence, here is a quote from the shill article linked above:
...Right about then, Tom Larsen, who had previously worked for YesAsia.com, started his own company in San Bruno, California: YA-Entertainment (not to be confused with YesAsia) to distribute the best Korean dramas with proper English subtitles in North America. To this end, YAE (as Tom likes to call his company) secured the necessary licenses to do just that with each of the major Korean networks...

Also, I suppose I should remind people about this:

Here is YesAsia's bootleg version of a Stephen Chow film:

http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 004057017/

And here is the legit version:

http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 000000557/

Notice that the boot costs MORE money, even though the video quality on it is abysmal.

It's nice to see that YAE pays close attention to these forums. If only they noticed the comments about how to improve their friggin' lame subs... Then we'd be gettin' somewheres.
