The Current State of Movie and Drama productions in Japan

The news regarding the arrest of a Japanese man who used to upload drama series in Daily Motion was recently posted. Even an English Japanese entertainment site admitted using the videos as basis in writing their news articles.

There was a TV producer who even said that Japanese movies and dramas are meant for a local audience - exclusively. That remarks also set the tone why producers of these dramas are not particularly interested in promoting their "products" abroad.

I was running a series of articles why it seems a particular talent agency in Japan is monopolizing the casting - the case of Emi Takei and Ayame Gouriki come to mind - as they get lead roles back-to-back-to-back or perhaps they will be part of a drama show until 3999.

Can people outside Japan make any difference? Will these affect how we get to watch the latest drama from Japan?

the days of finding something on youtube and dailymotion are probably over but so long as there are torrent sites, uploaders and fansubs there is no problem. Hollywood has spent a fortune truing to stop downloading and they are losing.

Yes, you are right. There are other ways. The only issue here is the kind of pressure torrent sites are getting since the focus of the US government is on them. Even Pirate Bay and its owners are fighting very hard - Fredrik Neij and Peter Sunde have been arrested in Sweden, but still the torrent site remains alive.

Torrents serving J-doramas are not as expansive and as big as PirateBay, but knowing the determination of the Japanese authorities, it maybe next.
