You may have missed seeing it in my original post before, so I went ahead and highlighted the necessary parts.XoX wrote:Are you sure that's right?XiaoPauli wrote:All-time average viewership for T-dramas.

I always figured it was because there was a bias against TDramas on D-Addicts by the mods who preferred JDramas and KDramas.groink wrote: NOW everyone knows why I don't allow all-time ranking lists on DramaWiki...

But seriously, I agree on not allowing posting of ranking lists. Too many people would get confused. There's at least four different ways to calculate viewerships:
* Taipei-only viewership or Taiwan viewership
* series average viewership or series peak viewership
Those factors alone can produce wildly different ratings, which would be hard enough to keep track for accuracy.
Well, I can't say for everyone that there's no bias!XiaoPauli wrote:I always figured it was because there was a bias against TDramas on D-Addicts by the mods who preferred JDramas and KDramas.
Some background info on DramaWiki.... Awhile back, someone created an all-time Korean drama ranking page, ranking the top-100. You would think that once the list was created, then it would be changed only when a new show would enter the top-100. But NO, a number of people were grabbing data from different sources - each of them being different. And no one - no matter how much we tried to - could enforce the list. Therefore, I did away with the list. Personally I'd rather have no list than to have a list containing erroneous data.
As for the Japanese dramas, we did at one point have differing opinions about what data should be used. When I first hopped on-board, I thought people were using the overall ratings. But then I come to find out that everyone else was using data from only the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo. My theory is that the Kanto region release its data within HOURS after the show is aired, so fans tend to cling to these ratings since the other regions take over one week to be released. But at the end, we did all come to the conclusion that the Kanto ratings should be used, and that's why the Japanese ratings on DramaWiki are precise.
As for a top-X all-time ratings list, statistically it does not make any sense to maintain one. With the passing of each year, your audience sampling size changes, as well as other conditions, such as the number of networks available. Because I'm familiar with Japanese dramas, I'll use these as an example. During the 1990s, there were less TV networks than there are today. Statistically, you're supposed to be able to add up all the ratings for a given time period and it should come out 100-points. So logically, the more shows that are aired during the time period, the smaller the sampling for each show. In other words, a show that scored 30-points in 1995 may actually be equivalent to 20-points in 2007. But, because a top-X rating list is sorted from 1-to-X in descending order, the 30-points in 1995 will always be above the 20-points in 2007. And, as I said, this makes no statistical sense, nor is it fair to present such a list for those people who have absolutely no idea what's behind those figures.
