Has Aja-Aja site been attacked?

Post by xk » Jul 11th, '09, 15:52

I keep getting numerous pop-up's when I go to their site. I get at least 3 pop ups each time I visit them. I used to not get this before. When i go to other sites I don't get any pop ups so I know it's not my PC.. Is Aja-Aja.com site infected with virus or something? :blink Any other users getting the same problem?

Hmm I haven't been to aja^2 for a few days but now that you said it, I went to the website and I did get pop ups... my Firefox blocked them but I don't think I got stuff like that before.
Lets just hope it's like a glitch or something and nothing is wrong with their website.

@Lanigirl: You can contact the admins through here http://aja-aja.com/contact or at myaigoo@gmail.com I believe...

I've been going there several times already for a week and nothing like that has happened to me yet. I have Firefox with Adblock Plus add-on, which I think solves the problem for me. :]

I am at Aja-Aja right now, and also visited earlier today and yesterday, and have had no problems with the website.

But, like tsurashi313, I am using Firefox with AdBlockPlus installed and enabled. Hmmm. But yeah, it looks like ABP is blocking 5 items.

In the meantime, try installing some adblock software on your computer.

I can access but the last 2 days Iget 2,3 pop-ups everytime I click on something on aja, so I quit visiting the site, lol. It's a very malicious form of ads, it almost hijacked my browser and changed window size to fullscreen.

I'm using a sniffer, and can read the HTTP sessions a web site goes through. In the case of aja-aja.com, they're using AdBrite, and it sends your browser to this site within 2 seconds of connecting to aja-aja.com. Other sites it sent me to during that single connection include:

adbrite.com
feedjit.com
clicksor.com
connecxtra.com
gravatar.com
commissionaccount.com
nuffnag.com

But definitely, AdBrite is a bastard! Again, this all happened just loading their front page.

I'm okay because I'm using an anti script program and it stops anything that try to pop up or re direct unless I enable it too.....you guys should try anti script programs for the browser you use.

Although I do agree that at the end you need to protect your arse, it does hurt aja-aja.com somewhat. The web site - as well as many other for-free sites like d-addicts.com, rely on their visitors hitting these ad servers. The more people use these filters, the more it may harm funding for these for-free sites.

IMO, the best way to approach this is to work with the administrators, and persuade them to use ad services that are less tainted with malware and such. Ruroshin on d-addicts does his best in this regard.

I don't have problem accepting a few small popup windows for the sake of the site I'm visiting. In fact, I alway try to click a few ads at the site. However, the ones that try to hijack my browser's not "ads" anymore-they fall into "malicious" category to me.

What groink said is true but there's no harm in doing so because you can enable certain things to pop up....if you want to help the site then just enable the ones you want as what I did. If I know that it have malware then I just turn it back off.... and use some type of program to deal with the malware. I had to use it because sometimes these things can affect your browser and sometimes uninstalling and reinstallying might not solve the problem.

New Ads

Post by jtranla » Jul 13th, '09, 01:50

No, we are not being attacked. We could no longer use Adsense to generate Ad revenues (due our offering download links to K-drama) to pay for the site maintenance, so we sign up for a new one.

If you guys know of a better Ads revenue generator program, please let us know (myaigoo@gmail.com). And we will try to incorporate ones that are not so disruptive.

Understand that it costs a lot of money to maintain our site and be able to offer a huge amount of downloads everyday. If we can no longer afford to pay for site maintenance, we will no longer offer links to you all for FREE.

IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF AJA-AJA, THEN LOGIN WHEN YOU ACCESS SITE. MEMBERS DON'T GET BOTHERED BY ADS.

Some of them seem to be malicious, you can't close them once they open. I had to shut down the browser using task mgr to shut down IE. I don't mind clicking ads but this is not a good thing. My computer picked up tons of spyware over the weekend while trying to download, I am going to stay away from now on, sorry.

Thanks for your insight, groink. I'm glad to know it wasn't just my computer.

Yea I use Firefox... and it fails to block pop-up's at Aja-aja. Yea there are some pop-up blocking software/ add-ons out there that can take care of this issue.. I also tried Google Chrome browser and that blocks them automatically too.

jtranla, thanks for the info.

A friend of mine has an account there and she still gets pop-up's even after logging in. So I don't think it matters whether the user logs in or not you still get the same pop-up's...

it's really no biggie though. I can deal with 3~4 pop-up's when accessing your site. Even though I have access to only the 700mb files I'm very thankful cause they are free to download.

I've mentioned this before from another post about problems with this site but it would really help you and your computer if you install the browser "Mozilla Firefox" if you don't have it and add the add-on "Adblock Plus" into Mozilla. Just go to their main site to get them and usually the problems will be gone. :]

I am using firefox as my browser but that didn't help. Many people told me about this problem before about the pop up but i was ok with it until my laptop were attacked by viruses so i am trying to get rid of it right now. Just go to the site at your own risks, hopefully the ladies at aja-aja would do something about it..

I have no issues with the site. I get no pop-ups or ads. If you are using firefox, you might need adblock plus.

Firefox has Pop-ups off by default.

I enabled pop-ups just to see what the problem was... its horrible.

Please use a pop-up blocker feature on your web browser before entering :D

Firefox did block SOME of the ads for me, but it didn't block everything. I got the viruses after a few pop ups from the aja aja's site. Now that i got the viruses, I keep on getting the XP DELUXE PROTECTOR pop ups... I am doing the full scan right now, and so far there are 7 threats with over 200+ infections. hopefully this anti virus will get rid the virus. I contacted puela about the problem, so hopefully she'll reply soon.

I'm on the aja-aja site now... don't see anything.. I do have Firefox + NoScript + Adblock Plus.
Actually, I was unaware the site even had popups or ads.. I've never seen any at all.

What a load of BS and defirmation you are spreading, shame o you. I have been using Aja-Aja for several years now or Aigoo as they where named before and NEVER got any virus at all. I have downloaded about every K-drama they have hosted. and now I have been dowmloading all the J-Dramas I didnt have from them. I visit that site several times a day.
I dont use firefox and have my Explorer set on the LOWEST security it has and have absolutly no problem with popups, the only popup I get is if the download are linked to sendspace, but that is only one popup per two-three downloads and not every download and that popup is on sendspace NOT Aja-Aja. I dont have virusprogram on my puter all the time as it slow down the puter so much I just install it every two weeks, run the program and then uninstall and never found a virus from Aja-Aja.
I dont think Aja is the only site you have been on so how can you say you got it from them. virus can lay latent and when you do something or visit a site problem can be visible. that doesnt mean you got it from that site.
Also Aja doesnt provide with all the downloads to dramas they just host the links. I can take my files upload to my Mega account and sendspace account and send my links to Aja. Does that mean that Aja is guilty/responcible for any problems that may and I say MAY occure. NO it doesnt

I dont think your problem with ads comes directly from Aja -Aja but more from the browser and google as Aja allows ads to be shown when you visit thier site and the area you live in as ads shown are realted to the area/country you live in.

Many Anti-Virus programs are overly protective and can sometimes false alert you on something harmless as a Trojan. And I am pretty sure AA's site was the case.

Moderators - Please merge this topic with the existing aja-aja topic regarding the pop-ups:
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_76178.htm

I've provided evidence in the form of logs, so the popups ARE there. And the administrator of aja-aja explains that there ARE popups, and explains the switch in advertisers, and how to work around the popups.

I did go to aja-aja today and my computer was attacked by a virus even though I use firefox...some of the ads are very malicious! i got some "xp protector" software that kept opening my IE to porno sites >.< luckily it all went away with system restore but hopefully aja-aja will find some better advertisement! i understand that it costs a lot to maintain the site though... *sigh*

i had also noticed the pop-ups for several weeks now but it was just this past thursday that loading the homepage resulted in my browser freezing and a virus (trojan, etc) AND malware infection....i got the blue screen of error...etc....of course the malware is also preventing me from using my spybot or trying to look for spyware removal programs by redirecting all the info sites i try to access...once i managed to dl a few programs, i get errors when i try to install them or run them...it wont let me do system restore either..when i press next, nothing happens....i think i was able to get rid of the viruses but the malware is still there..

when i started mozilla on another computer at the office today..i had aja-aja on a tab from a previous session..and even though i tried to stop it from loading..it was too late... my browser ended up frozen again....restarted the browser after ctrl-alt-delete to close it...and i got pop-ups wherever i went and redirected searches...when i finally got to adaware dl site...non-stop pop ups appeared in the tabs of my ie browser continuously...when i finally managed to close all the popped-up browsers...i used system restore and it worked on this computer....im gonna stay away from the site for awhile.. cuz now im sure my problems stem from its ad server...

Those who had problems when entering the site, you can pretty much just blame yourself for not having decent protection on your computer. I've never had problems with Aja Aja website, I use Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus and NoScript, and, of course, I have anti-virus program that is up to date.

No way! What you're basically saying is that you condone this crap - to allow the web site to continue its malware/virus ways. This is a NEWBIE solution who does not have the understanding how things work on the Internet, regarding advertising or running a web site.

As the administrators of Aja-Aja explained, they had to get rid of its previous advertiser when the advertiser complained about the site promoting Korean drama downloads via DDL. Think about it - the only advertisers who would freely fund pirating sites like Aja-Aja are the lowest scums of the Earth - the pornographers, pedophiles, gamblers, etc. In other words, the blame is solely on the administrators of the web site.

You see, your problem is that your need for Korean shows is your only objective here. You're willing to install whatever anti-___ software on your PC, and then put your PC through through major abuse via this web site JUST so that you can grab what you want. As a matter of fact, your blockers are even rendering the advertising worthless, thereby the admins are not benefiting financially to your visits. It is people like YOU who falsely put blame on the users, and to steal funding away from the admins who really need the funding to support your habit.

If you had any correct understanding of the whole issue, you would be working with the admins in finding better advertising sources, so that they can get rid of their current advertisers.

It's funny how you lecture me like that, especially when I'm pretty sure I know network and data security stuff considering my occupation is about them. And I find it ridiculous how YOU seem to know bunch of stuff about me (see the red parts). You don't always have to act like besserwisser. It's not my job to get right kind of ads to websites I'm not running. I disable ads if I want, and if I really like a website, I support it by donating. And just so you know, I mainly dl Korean stuff from torrent and Clubbox, so there you go :P

Remember, you opened up the IT professional can. You as an IT professional show a lack of professionalism. Coming from myself who is CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certified, as well as a Cisco CCIE, I'm professional enough not to tell people the Internet's problem with adware and malware is the users' problem. If you don't like what Aja-Aja's doing with their advertising, then don't visit - but at the same time don't go telling others your bullshit regarding tips on restraining ad revenue for the site. You should've told these users to go elsewhere like Clubbox, instead of promoting the idea of burning Aja-Aja's bandwidth without contribution to the funding of that bandwidth.

I could care less about Korean stuff. But, I am an advocate of people being able to run a web service without being ripped off by the likes of filtering. And, you flaunting your credentials about being an IT professional just makes your previous advice even more ridiculous. What do you do at your office when one of your users become infected? Do you lecture the user? No, you do something about it within your IT infrastructure. You FIREWALL the site completely! If the site is infected, regardless of the protection you have on your PC, the site is not worthy of the visit. And there! You protect your entire company! BUT NO, instead, you tell people to wear the right protective gear before running into a burning house just to rescue the Korean DVDs.

Just wanted to let you know that yes, I got malicious pop-ups from Aja-aja today (my first time getting one from Aja's site).

Now, first of all, I LOVE AJA-AJA. It's got vids I could have only dreamed of getting - and that 's even trying to purchase it (i.e., Jang Dong Gun's version of Iljimae back in the early 90's)!

I've experienced ad pop-ups and I do understand that Aja-aja need to make money, so I haven’t minded it. However, today was of a different sort:

I've been fine looking through stuff but it wasn't until after I clicked on “Sang Doo, Let's Go To School” when the site froze, and then it was followed by multiple pop-ups not of ads but of Aja-aja’s site – it’s like 13 in 2 secs (I was closing groups of them as soon as I could click) it took about 3 minutes (which felt like eternity in hell), but luckily, all my internet site connections shut down and I didn't have to re-install the OS. It was around 7 pm PST.

Please note it in your log.

A couple of thoughts after reading through this thread:

1. People shouldn't denigrate (slam) those that use this thread for communication of the helpful sort. Meaning, if there is a possibility that Aja is attacked, people should be able to discuss it and hopefully find a solution – I found the postings that provided suggestions certainly helpful. Those that don’t have problems – good for you, no need to degrade those that do. If anything it should be helpful to Aja (for those that are in the IT profession should know that bugs/problems should be reported for it could possibly turn into a bigger problem).

2. A few “thank you’s” are in orders: xk for starting this thread, those that reported the problems (so that I can be on the alert for those mentioned), loveless_soul for providing other avenues to report the problem, tsurashi313, SusieQ, PocketKiriyama, Jav_sol, pn0yb0i, Riea for the great advice, jtranla, puela for keeping us informed, and groink for defending those that have been experiencing problems.

I’ll be sending an email to myaigoo@gmail.com as well.

Can I ask u at what time did u experience the pop-ups. I been browsing the site the site as a non-member with any adblock protection or anything and I have yet to experience popunders after I made the changes.

D-Addicts experienced this awhile ago. When you subscribe to an ad provider like AdBrite, you're subscribing to a catalog of ads. AdBrite does not deliver all the ads. Instead, it takes the visitor's browser to other sites. Once my web browser hit adbrite.com, it took me to the following additional sites:

feedjit.com
clicksor.com
connecxtra.com
gravatar.com
commissionaccount.com
nuffnag.com

That was back on July 11, and since then you may have re-calibrated the settings that change those results. It may take days before you nail that one ad that contains the malware. The way most advertisers deliver ads is by using a hash value of some kind. As long as the same hash is being used during the session, the visitor will be stuck with a certain set of ads. Once the hash is reset, then a new set may be assigned. This is why some users may never see the bad ad, while others run into it every single time.

With that, in your testing, I would suggest you quit the browser, re-run the browser, flush the temporary cache, delete all of your cookies, and THEN try visiting the site again. Then hopefully the hash is reset, and a new set of ads will be delivered.

EDIT: Just want to say that you're awesome groink! *hugs* Sure enough cleaning out my cache seems to be working like a charm and I can happily visit Aja again! \(^.^)/
