K-movies discussion

Post by aoi_hana » May 29th, '05, 17:07

One general thread for K-movies. Please do not start another topics with recommendations. Starting threads for a particular movie is fine.
Rules:
1. Questions about movies should be asked here.
2. Creating a thread for a particular movie is fine.

I love Korean movies, especially comedies. Can you suggest any that you really liked?

So far, I've loved:

My Tutor Friend
My Sassy Girl
100 Days with Mr. Arrogant
My Boyfriend is Type-B
Please Teach Me English

I have a gift-certificate that I need to use on YesAsia... yay

aoi_hana, I liked the ones that you've mentioned :-) .. well, here's a few others that weren't mentioned:

Windstruck (not really comedy per say, but it does have some humorous moments)
Love So Divine
My Little Bride (highly recommended, romantic-comedy)
Spy Girl

Korean films are also well known for their tear-jerkers... well, there's quite a few really good ones out there. Another genre to check out :P

I highly recommend:
1) Too Beautiful to Lie (Don't Believe her) ...my favorite comedy
Cast: Kim Ha Neul   and Kang Dong Won
Synopsis: Ju Young-ju, an beautiful ex-con artist who has been recently released on parole, is planning to attend her sister’s weeding. On her way she crosses path with Choi Hee-chul, a shy and unsure young man who is on his way to see his girl friend in Seoul. By a small series of unexpected events, the precious ring that Hee-chul planned to give to his girl friend end up in Young-ju possession, which at the same time, loose her bag. With only information she had chance to gather on Choi Hee-chul, she decides to find him, give him back the ring and take back her bag. However, at the moment of giving back the ring, her old lying habit kick back and obviously, hilarity and adventure ensues. (credits kfccinema)

2) Art Museum by the zoo...another really good one.
Casts: Shim Eun Ha  | Lee Sung Jae
Synopsis: Chun-Hi, a video camera woman for wedding ceremonies. One day, Cheol-Su, a soldier, trespasses her house. He is supposed to spend his last holiday with his lover Da-Hye, but she has already moved out. When Cheol-Su heard that Da-Hye is going to marry another man, he insists on staying in Chun-Hi's house in order to get a chance to persuade his ex-lover to come back to him. Out of pity, Chun-Hi allows him to stay. Chun-Hi, who loves a man one-sidedly, and heart-broken Chul-Su become closer and closer while they fight and comfort each other. When Chun-Hi writes a scenario, Cheol-Su interrupts her and they decide to realize their hopeless love in the scenario. (credits yesasia)

3) I wish I have a wife... a more subtle humor
Casts: Kyung-gu Sol and Do-yeon Jeon
Story: When the sands of the matrimonial hour glass begin to wear thin, Bank Manager Bong-soo Kim finds himself on a desperate search for a wife. Surrounded by friends and associates who sense the ticking of their own biological clocks, Bong-soo manages to throw himself a private pity party while timidly avoiding the woman who may just be the answer to all his problems. (credits kfccinema)

Other enjoyable movies:
The Quiet Family (Song Kang Ho | Choi Min Sik | CUI MIN ZHI)
Romantic Comedy (Park Sang Myun | Jung Jun Ho | Shin Eun Kyung_)
Windstruck (well I don't really consider it as a comedy but still...)
Ghost House (Cha Seung Won | Jang Seo Hee)
Guns& talks (Won Bin | Shin Hyun Jun | Shin Ha Kyun) action and comedy
My wife is a Gangster (Park Sang Myun | Shin Eun Kyung | An Jae Mo)

If you have time, you can also check:
Attack the Gas station
How to keep my love
She is on Duty
My Little Bride
Someone special

how bout action comedy:
Two Guys (Cha Tae Hyun (the guy in My Sassy Girl) (maybe wrong spell forgive me) )
Guns and Talks

boths are very funny and no tear-jerker moments at all (unlike some romantic comedy ones).

also, if you have some knowledge about korean language, maybe you want to watch "Hwangsanbeol", it has many (if not all) linguistic jokes and using many different korean dialects. Honestly i didnt really understand most of the jokes, jokes in one language dont translate well to other language imho.

I think there's a movie called friends which stars Won Bin as well. As opposed to the mini series (friends 2002) that stars Kyoko Fukada and Won Bin.

I recommend Il Mare, Little Bride, She's On Duty (funny but still has romantic moments)...

just my personal opinion but i dont get what the hype is all about the movie, "my sassy girl"... I really didnt get much of this movie.. funny and a little romantic but not earth shattering.. didnt move me to tears or had me sleepless for nights... Oh well, to each his own.. :)

here are some of my recommendations based on what i've seen so far.

My Sassy Girl (most people would recommend this)
Windstruck (only the first half i would say)
She's On Duty (kim sun ah brings out the humor)
Make It Big (Those three guys are so goofy)
100 Days With Mr.Arrogant (ha ji won's hilarious being sailormoon)
Please Teach Me English (their english are really funny)
My Little Bride (the falling off the building still keeps me laughing till this day)

here's some of the movies i've watched which may fall under the genre...
i'll rate them with regards to their "laugh-factor" and not on how good they are
(5 being the highest)

(or anything that goes under the "fluff" category)
- 100 days with mr arrogant [4]
- he was cool [4.5]
- how to keep my love [3]
- love impossible [3]
- my boyfriend is type b [3]
- my little bride [4]
- my sassy girl [4.5]
- my tutor friend [4.5]
- surprise party [3]
- windstruck [4.5]

for comedies with a bit of action...
- attack the gas station! [4.5]
- conduct zero [4.5]
- guns & talks [4.5]
- my wife is gangster [3]
- she is on duty [4]
- short time (aka lee dae-ro can't die) [4]
- spin kick [4]

some funny ones (which have some "adult" humor)
- love in magic [3.5]
- s-diary [4]
- silver knife [4]

Hey all!
I've been so bored lately and I've been watching a lot of Korean/Chinese/Japanese movies
I was wondering what are your favorite movies...since I've already watched most of the ones that I know or heard of...

I've been watching quite a lot of K-movies alongside K-dramas and there are just so many good ones which I could not remember, but here are some good ones...

1) Welcome to Dongmakgol
2) The Beast and the Beauty
3) Mr. Socrates

For some of the older ones:
1) My Boss My Hero
2) He was Cool
3) My Little Bride
4) Oh Happy Day!
5) Arahan
6) Innocent Steps
7) My Boyfriend is Type B
8 ) My Tutor Friend
9) My Teacher Mr. Kim
10) Public Enemy
11) She is on Duty
12) Who's Got the Tape?

I think that older movies are still better as the movies nowadays tend to be more violent and somehow the storyline is not as nice anymore... hehe Will do an update again if I happen to come across any good movies! :-)

Taegukgi.

One of the best military movies I've seen period. Although I'm determined to find the english subtitles as the torrent i got had chinese subs  still. I got the concept of the story, a bit too melodramatic at the end though.

Oh yea and won in was in it :P

Besides all the movies which have been mentioned... 'The Beast and The Beauty' is a must-watch!!! :lol Ryu Seung Bum & Shin Min Ah played such great role in there, and seeing as how all movies goes these days, it's definitely one of the best movies around!

well i have seen most of all those movies mentioned and i had my laughs although some of em
(like lots of korean movies) had some kind of bad part...
i mean there's some of em where the movie script is too long or too short.
and the storyline is nice up untill 3/4 of the movie.... which sucks...

i have also noticed no one has "Singles" in their lists...
i think this is a very nice movie about 3 friends and their love relationships in everyday life..
i had some hard laughs with it.. and has a nice storyline...
starring: 장진영 (Jang Jin Young), 엄정화 (Uhm Jung Hwa), 이범수 (Lee Bom Soo), and 김주혁 (Kim Joo Hyuk).

the recommended by other pple are fine too:
엽기적인 그녀 (sassy girl), 동갑내기 과외하기(my tutor friend), 아는 여자 (someone special)...
all 3 mentioned are romantic comedy movies...
