Removing subs formatting

Post by kuroyuki » Apr 21st, '21, 07:53

Hello,

I am trying to find if there´s a way to remove the below kind of formatting from subs without having to go line by line. Does anyone know if there is any way?

The sub is from the first season of TRICK, in .smi format. I am trying to sync it to a new rip that I will share soon on avistaz but I am trying to fix that formatting for the previews, since it puts the text almost in the middle of the video + it makes the font size different across the different episodes, even when the original sub itself is for ep1-3 together.

Can't you just convert the subs to .srt?
I do that all the time, because personally, I prefer .srt to .ass or .smi.

In aegisub, block all the lines that contain the tags/formats that you wish to remove, then Under automation tab, click the "strip tag". It should remove all tags/formating, except the text.

Btw, heres some explanation on the format in your screenshot
\fs18= this is a fontsize, remove this then it should return to its original size
\a6: this is a placement text. Remove this then the text position should return to its original position
\i and \c = they are just italic effect and text color.

But, if you want to remove a specific tags, Aegisub has a tool for that, but unfortunately the tool isn't available in the usual aegisub. It's only available through Dependency Control version which most typesetter use.

Image below is for removing specific tags/formats only
All you need to do, is to block all the lines that contain the tags/formats you want to remove then mark all the tags that you need to remove in the script clean up. Then click "Kill Tags".

That screenshot is the srt conversion, but those tags remained

Thank you @Ariel_Nugie ! I was not aware of those options so I will give it a try! :-)

I use an online tool to convert. Usually it doesn't give any problems:

Code: Select all

https://subtitletools.com/convert-to-srt-online
But, the solution above seems better though :D

@kuroyuki, you're welcome

Btw, what I mean by "block the lines". It means "select the lines".

We call it "block" in my place, but it seems it isn't a common way to say "select" in a lot of places. So, I hope you understand my explanation :D
